Thread: Digital vs. Film...? | Forum: Photography
Morning folks, I, like most of the other respondents, shoot both. But when I can, I tend to shoot film. Digi has its uses, and I use the heck out of it, but I still favor the film based cameras. Not only that, but recently Ive found myself taking the old manual SLR out more and more. For the auto (film) cameras, I have recently purchased several full manual lenses, so I shoot manual all the way down. I find it slows me down enough to start thinking more about the composition, DOF, ect instead of just clicking away

Great image Michelle, I always end up washing out the sky if I dont specifically think about it. Now I got to say this, things are starting to get a little odd around here. *You shoot D7, as do I. *You shoot N90s, me too. And now *You use Portra 160VC, which is my main film. Next thing Ill hear is you used a Kiron lens and have a G2 for backup. Anyway good to know that youre D7 will live again. Will it be ready for the NY trip end of October?

Thread: Anyone know of Kiron Lenses? | Forum: Photography
Well I got the lens, with the condition that I can return it within 14 days, if I chose. It is 105mm, 52mm threaded, and bonus , 1:1 macro, the aperture range is from F-2.8 to F-32. I just got back from the local pond/hiking trail, and shot bugs, flowers, and butterflies at 1:1, then took a few of geese, and general scenic at smaller apertures up to f-32. Used tri-pod and handheld. Just trying to put it through its paces. Ill drop the film (Supra 100) off at a 1hr tomorrow and see how it comes out. This could be fun; I have always wanted a good macro:-) Thanks again Quinn

Thanks for the info, I went up to photographyreview.com, and like you said, nothing much one way or the other, but at least it gave me an idea of the class of lens. I then went a little deeper on the web, and found that people who use it, like it, some even comparing it to Nikkor. Im not sure what the minimum aperture is, but Im taking one of my bodies up to the store today to try it. So Ill get back to you on that one. Again thanks. Quinn

Thanks,
And, starshuffler, you got me thinking again, how to do a multi-color effect? Will not work to paint with dye on a clear sheet of acetate, how do it? Well what if I got a small bag of those multicolored beads, spread those across the top of the light hum...

bsteph, I only got as far as the dry foil. Saber might have been fun, but the ep, with a toe hit scoring a point, was just too much. I did enjoy the tradition, and formality of the standard foil, and the fact that only a potentially lethal hit scored ;)

Camera is the Minolta Dimage 7, 200mm optical zoom plus X2 digi zoom (digi zoom in this camera is a simple frame crop), quality is super fine (tiff).
I was trying to get a good, sharp image of just the eye or eyes (yes I was thinking of the Survivor? song from the 80s), but no luck. They will be back at another fair Im going to, in a few weeks, Ill try again.
