I use PC, but some details cross platforms. The use of any new DAZ figures (genesis) in carrara requires that the daz studio library runtime be intact. As a non-DS user (with my own runtime arrangement) this blew my setup out of the water. If you can run daz studio on your mac, then odds are that C8.5 will run also. Notice I said "odds", not "certainty".
If not working with genesis, I did not see any problems with C8.5

Posting any art reveals what really moves you, and that can put you in a very vulnerable space. And people DO make judgements.
An age old answer is a publishing alias. I use that :)
Thread: More DAZ goodness | Forum: Carrara
I gave up on DAZ PC club last year. I kept finding the free stuff boring (sorry, guns and garbage cans don't do it for me).
When I got the reports of glitchy behavior with C8.5, I just didn't bother.
I still watch DAZ, because they have many good things at a good price, but more variety can be found at the "other guys'" sites.

Thanks for the tip. We just bought a house, so we have no funds at all :(
Still, there are all those fine products out there...

I keep all the pose packs in a runtime I call "positions". It has everything and I make no attempt to thin it out.
I keep it organized with the PzDB application, which lets me select the figures and add my own labels.
Most pose sets come very helpfully labeled "pose 1", "pose 2". I think I have 50 "pose 1"'s. ;)
I think the erotic poses should be labeled "impossible position 1, impossible position 2..."
Ha, ha.
Thread: Cafe closed for remodeling | Forum: Carrara
Even though this is a low-activity forum, renderosity strikes a nice balance between the mandatory "everything is awesome" line of you-know-where and the "everything is awful" line of many public blogs.
I am not so much into blogging, however. Anti-social me! Whenever I try to use the forums for information, I have to ask for tech support to tell me which control-alt-shift-click will take me to the information I want.

I also have all my characters and frequently-used-stuff saved as carrara scenes that import nicely. Saves time, etc and is really, sort of, the same as a duplicate command.
I have low res snapshots of each available set up saved in a quick-viewing file so I can flip through them like a photo album to pick and choose what I want to go into a scene.
Fenric's stuff? How did I ever use Carrara without it?!
Thread: Lights not working as expected | Forum: Carrara
I have this happen sporadically in C8.0.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
I always have to delete the light and make a new one.
Thread: Should Daz Sell Carrara And, If Yes, Who Should It Sell It To? | Forum: Carrara
I doubt DAZ can or would sell, due to patent issues. I suspect they acquired carrara in the first place to gain some features for installation into daz studio.
It's a common trick in the technology industry.
Thread: Wait, what? | Forum: Carrara
When I first saw this new download system, I assumed it was a new effort at security, to be able to track who downloads what files and from whom.
The instant unusual files appear, with odd unnecessary file structures and a library that phones home.... well, all vendors in the 3D community know that non-paying downloaders are a problem and I don't see DAZ lowering its security by using simple zip files.
I have always manually placed content, due to having my own library structure. I found the new DAZ system too disconcerting to bother with and have essentially given up on them.

I looked into buying C8.5, but found that to take advantage of it, and enjoy my time, I would have to upgrade my computer.
In the balance, I decided I don't need anything so buggy for what I do: hobby, little bits of art. Some of the new features would be nice, but aren't actually necessary to justify the $.

Thread: Word up, C8.5. | Forum: Carrara
Quote - My script for DAZ.
There will be a blow out on the DAZ forum that will result in pulled posts and warned posters. And it will some how be our fault.
Even innocuous posts that bring attention to marketing strategies will get pulled. (Been there, and I am always non-confrontational.) Marketing departments live in their own little kingdoms.

I have found my best value for $ from the add-ons. Fenric, for example, has the best little utilities for just pennies. :)
I am delighted to hear that I can use dynamic clothes now, I gave up on them long ago.
Thread: Floater Bot Deluxe (using Fenrics plugins). | Forum: Carrara
Hey, thanks for this tutorial.
I always fumble around when dealing with altering models, so I appreciate the tips.
