I just perused their site again and see that the earlier version of the camera, the one that was just mounted on a circuit board, is no longer available. Instead they have a boxed version at $350.00 that includes a Sync Splitter box. The timing issue is probably raising it's ugly little head here.
They are touting greyscale sensitivity as well now whereas the earlier camera was 1-pixel threshold only. I'm guessing that this would help eliminate data loss from poor reflectance angles. Since they are calculating the Z-vector algorithmically from a known three-point cluster, not directly, they could ill afford to drop samples.Â
I'd personally like to know more about the ILM iMoCap system used in "Dead Man's Chest." They are apparently pulling all the data from just two visual streams, checkered bands and a minimal number of marker balls. I saw some of the original ILM setup & footage at a conference in Montreal in September and they are seriously on to something. (Having a 5000 processor render farm does come in handy.) This must be based upon the system that was used to recreate Parisian architecture from a hot air balloon.
Monster House on the other hand used 200 cameras, 80 markers on the body, another 72 on the face and no real environments at all. Wireframe props galore so markers were not occluded. But then they took it to a whole other level by creating the ability to move the camera around the MoCap-driven action in real time using the equivalent of a Worral head. Just like flying around in a VR environment or first-person shooter. Still had to render everything from there, but they had a database of character MoCap with integrated camera motion control for the render. Everything had originated from a real-time, multistream analog input! No freakin' mousing around one axis at a time for those guys.
Anybody ready to hack Poser to give 6-DOF joystick control of the Dolly Camera?

Frum,
I've noticed that the problem with the delete key only happens when the Library Palette is open. In that case, the del key seems to take you up a level. If I close the Library, then the del key works on the selected actor as expected.

I never used the Hair Room in P6 cause it was just too slow. Yesterday I tried it in P7 and had 16,000+ hairs in Show Populated mode and could still move the head around easily.
Â
Haven't had a crash, lockup or other problem of note with two minor exceptions:
Once the ENTER key would no longer start and stop playback of a 450 frame animation andÂ
on frame 1 of the animation, an item I had keyframed invisible, would not toggle back to visible with the mouse, but Undo worked. I see there is also a Visibility Parameter Dial, so I could have probably used that as well.
I set my Undo's to 32 because I can't see ever needing more than that before I've saved my work anyway.

"wav" is one format of audio that has been (recorded and) digitized to create computer compatible files. There are many flavors of sampling rates and bit depths as well as stereo and mono. For most lipSyncing uses, you can get by with 8kHz, 16-bit, mono files. Do not use 8-bit, ever, no way, no how!You will need a program to record into and a microphone as well to create these files. I have included a link just to get you started, but I have no experience with this particular program, it was just the first free one that came up. I use very expensive, professional software that would be serious overkill for what you are asking about.
The text files are phonetically written versions of the audio file used to help the Talk Designer with its visemes. For example, there is a difference in timing (called a glottal stop) between "A nail" and An ale."

Thread: WalkDesigner Installation NG. Missing SimonG2WD.cr2 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sadly, it appears to be somewhat more complicated than just copying the files over.Â
Since I have removable drives, I did a full install on another content free drive as a test. Suddenly, the Walk Designer loaded in with all kinds of G2 variables for things like Elderly & Tough, as well as the usual P6 variables, so it's apparent that the concept of "Current Content" means something different to e-Frontier than it does to me and other English speaking people.
Thanks for the input though. "It may help when I write them." he says dubiously.

Indoda,
Do you remember what other files were missing? When I report this, I'd like to give them as much information as possible from the perspective that SimonG2 is most definitely "Current Content" and should therefore be available in the Walk Designer without requiring a full install.Â
Were the other files also WD centric, e.g., SydneyG2WD, Kate2WD, Ben2WD, etc?
nruddock,
What else is in the ...... Walk Designer subdirectory? Are they *.cr2 or *.crz?
TIA,

Thread: best way to move old content to P7 ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The Bob:
I copied the entire subdirectory over simply because I had no way of knowing exactly what the uninstall was going to remove. I wanted to be able to replace any missing files if necessary.
I used E: simply because that is my next hard drive. For you, it may be D: The point was to copy it to another hard drive connected to my system so I'd have the fastest copying times for the large amount of data involved.
Post Op, it appears that just copying the runtime folder back and forth will be sufficient, but I would still recommend copying everything since it gives you protection in case P7 causes you problems and you have to re-install P6. Remember, you are removing ALL the relevant P6 files when you do the uninstall.
Peterk2004:
When you add the new runtime, you must drill down all the way to the runtime folder. You cannot just stop at the DAZ, Poser X, etc. subdirectory level.Â
Also, it is usually a bad idea to move or change any directory structures manually as you've done because some content uses absolute paths, not relative paths. This means that if you change the path, things get wonky. Better to use the installers and let them put things where they want and then always leave it there. That is exactly why I went through the above method. This got rid of my previous installs but kept all of my content in the same path locations.Â
There should be no problems with Poser using DAZ content as people do it all the time.

FWIW,
My successful formula was as follows:
I copied the entire Poser 5 and Poser 6 directories to my other hard drive, e.g., from C: to E:
I then ran SettingsControl PanelAdd Remove Programs and removed both Poser 5 &Â Poser 6. This left all of my additionally generated files, but **removed all the program files and content that had been installed with P5 & P6.
**
Next, I simply copied the runtime folders from my E: drive back into C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 5 & ...Poser 6 where they had been originally. **This replaced all of the content that the uninstall had removed.
**
I then installed Poser 7 as a custom install with new content only (there is a dialog during the install process that allows you to select this option.)
After P7 was installed, I added the P5 & P6 runtimes to the library with the Plus Sign while on the top level of the Library Palette by browsing to their location on C:. This method retained all of the original paths to all of my content and eliminated any possibility of crosstalk with *.dll's, registry issues or other unknown files left over from earlier versions of the program.
This also gave me the protection of a total backup of my content in case anything went awry.
P7 System has been totally stable, even the del key works. I have one 20-in monitor fully dedicated to a quad split of camera views with the other 20-in monitor handling the animation palette, graphs, libraries and parameter dials. Everything is working perfectly so far except for one time when the Enter key would no longer start and stop playback of a multi-layered animation.

Disclaimer: The above method worked for me and should work for you as well, however I will not be there to prevent you from doing something incorrectly, so I must clearly state that I can in no way accept any responsibility for your actions or their results from following my suggestions.

Safely ensconced inside the front cover in pencil on a Post-it (TM) was my serial number, so I reinstalled the software, entered the SerNo and Poser instantly closed after a message that I was out of memory!! Guess XP is too rich for its blood.
Dug out an old Compaq laptop running Win95 and it installed just fine, so now I have P2 & P7 working. Hopefully, over the next few days, I'll get a chance to post a work or two from P2 just to show how far things have come in ten years.
May all your renders complete! Happy New Year to All...!
