think its a bit of the time when computer power was lower and the models had much lower polycount ( look at the wireframe of the p4 woman) to make such lowpolycount people or things look smooth. but there are several ways in modelling or using uvmappers splitt vertex tool to stop the ballooning

you can fix the bloating by selecting the item and uncheck the "smooth" button in the properties.

In p5 you have to work with the ambient nodes, so if you have a texture link it to the ambient node and set the value to 1. or use a color in the ambient node

yes, 3dlapidary is the best link. but getting realy beautiful gemstones in p5 is very difficult, the raytracer in p5 is not the best :-((

Think it only works if the lights are named differend. otherwise the light1 from the new set replaces light1 from the old set or switches it off. maybe you can name the lights of the second set different.

In Poser 5 you can click on your mat ,than " select all" , "copy" select the other part of the obj and paste. And all is copied to the new part

Of course you can export from poser 5 to vue or LW. But as far as i know its much easier with p4 and propack poser 4 does very well with vue, propack has a plugin for lw. if you want to render in other apps so why poser 5?
