Niiice job Tempest!
As a former professional dancer, I can tell you this brought back many memories. You really captured the essence quite well and I especially like your overall composition! :-)

Thread: How to start-up with bryce? Do I need to be a good artist? | Forum: Bryce
Peggy, thanks for the link to the online course. I've been looking for one of those! :-)
And if you needed to be an artist before attempting to learn Bryce, then this newbie is in a heck of a lot of trouble, LOL!!! :-D Although I do feel an overall sense of color, placement, etc., do help, I also feel that anyone with patience and a desire to learn can do well with Bryce. I know I will never be the greatest Bryce renderer there ever was, but I can at least strive to be the best I can be. The hard part for me is in being patient. I am so new at this point in time, that I constantly find myself getting frustrated beyond belief. Especially when I try to do or learn too much all at once.
Bryce does afford newbies like myself a chance to just jump in and start rendering. As you progress though, you begin to understand just how much more this appy can and does do. And if I learn more about artistic concepts as I progress - so much the better! But I don't think anyone should not try just because they didn't attend art classes. Everyone's artistic aptitude lies in different places. Just give yourself a chance....and some time, and see what happens. You might be amazed at what you can come up with! ;-)

Even though I am relatively new here, I have always enjoyed reading your replies and helpful tips. It is sad to see you go, but it sounds like you have plenty of things to look forward to and keep you busy. ;-)
Take care Ken, and drop in from time to time when you can. There are a lot of folks here who think pretty highly of you. :-)

If you're on a Mac, here's where I downloaded the patch at versiontracker:

I hope it was okay to apply this patch, as I did awhile ago, but haven't yet experienced any problems.....at least none that I am aware of.

The other credited author on "Real World Bryce 4" is Victor Gavenda. ;-)
....and Eric, I can only dream of going to Bryce camp as it's a tad out of my price range, not to mention present rendering skills, lol!

Thread: Beginner Book | Forum: Bryce
Hi JHILL! Another newbie here as well. I recently bought this book (on a recommendation from one of the friendly mods here ;-)...), and am very glad I did. Although I also have the manual for B5, I just didn't find that it explained things as well - maybe it will as I gain experience? The Real World Bryce 4 book, IMHO, does explain things very well & there's also a CD inside the back cover that you can use to further understand and test out what's being covered in the chapters. I'm slowly working my way through this book, so can't say for sure how different it will be in relation to B5. All I've noticed so far (in the way of differences) is that some of the keyboard shortcuts don't work in B5. Other than that, you can usually figure out how to adjust for working in B5. But overall, I am very glad that I did make the investment and purchase this book. I hope this helps & have fun with your rendering! ;-)

Thread: Where can I get Books On Byce? | Forum: Bryce
Eric, I did buy Bryce 5. But I didn't find the manual that helpful, at least for this newbie. The book I mentioned above was recommended to me by one of our friendly moderators here, Clay, and has really made a difference - at least for me. :-)

D'OH!!!
Ack. Stephen is right - and I should have mentioned the tutorials as well! I am still working my way through the ones he mentioned but they are easy to follow and a great way to learn!
Also, forgot to mention that the "Real World Bryce 4" book, which normally sells for around $60, Amazon sells for around $38 + s&h.
But the tuts are free, so take advantage of them & have fun! :-)

Hi! Another fellow newbie here as well. A book I bought off of Amazon.com that was recommended to me, has really helped me out. It's called "Real World Bryce 4", by Susan Kitchens and Victor Gavenda. I also have B5, but you can still learn a lot from this book and it explains things really well. You can also read the reviews that real people who bought the book wrote over at Amazon's site. I have found it much more useful than the manual that came with my B5. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thread: Underwater W.I.P. | Forum: Bryce
Hey Clay - where's the shark? Or at least a ray?!!! :-D
j/k......but it is beautiful and does very much remind me of past scuba days of mine. Really nice usage of light and shadows, and I do hope you'll continue with this render and show us your updates when you have them.
I'm also looking for a good underwater tutorial - so hopefully someone here can recommend one?
Thanks for sharing it with the class Clay. :-)
