Thread: Is the hair room screwed up ???? Post SR2 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just tried the hair room post-SR2, and it works fine for me. This was just on a prop though, rather than a complex figure.

Thread: Realistic water...? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think it can do quite good reflections. The image shows a couple of primitives, (sorry about the awful colours, it's just to demonstrate the reflection) reflected in the ground plane. In both cases the ground has a slight bump applied using a fractal_sum node. The left hand image has no displacement, the right hand one a little bit using a turbulence node to give a kind of oily appearance. Displacement on its own does not affect the reflection, but when combined with bump you seem to get more marked effects.
With a bit of experimenting you could get quite convincing reflections in the water.

Thread: Creating satin in the Material room | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Starkdog,
No problem - settings below. Sorry about the delay, been a long day today.
Please feel free to use these however you wish. I'm sure it could stand some tweaking to improve the result.

I got quite interested in this so gave it a go. What do people think? Is this much like satin?
I can post the material room settings if anyone's interested.

Thread: .jpg and .gif look terrible! | Forum: Community Center
GIF is restricted to 256 colours. If your image has a lot more than that, it will look anything from not very good to appalling.
With JPEG, the critical thing is the degree of compression. JPEG loses data to achieve the levels of compression it does, so if you have a high compression set then your images may look poor. Are you using Poser - this by default sets a very high compression (i.e. low quality)? A better bet is to save as a TIF, PSD, or PNG, then convert to JPEG in a bitmap editor like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, which will give much more control over the compression process and give much better results.

The C3D store is still a bit flaky. For example, at the moment the Bulky conifer and Cone-shaped conifer have both been removed from the store. I had already bought the Cone-shaped conifer, and had the Bulky conifer in my wishlist. On checking I see that the Cone-shaped is no longer in my list of past purchases, but the Bulky is still in my wishlist. Perhaps this is WAD so I haven't said anything, but a bit of consistency would help :-)

To these I would add: Vendors who supply products in an executable installer rather than in a simple .zip file.

I have that book and IMO it is very suitable for absolute novices. It's a bit of a rehash of the manual but if you only have the electronic manual, go for the book as well - it is somewhat more readable.

I got in yesterday, tried to buy some items, but ran into a problem - I won't bore you with it. Now I just can't get in at all. This is just incompetent. They need some new web guys, and fast.
