The exploding box problem is (if I understand it correctly) due to the way Poser likes its displacement maps. Other 3D software usually takes 50% gray as the midpoint - i.e. no displacement - with black indenting and white extruding. Poser, on the other hand, takes black as the no displacement point and any lighter colour will therefore extrude - so, the exploding box. To get round this, plug your displacement map into the value_1 input of a math_function node set to subtract, with value_2 set to 0.5. (This assumes the background of your map is 50% gray - you may need to tweak this value slightly.) This will subtract 0.5 from each value input from the map, and means that black now has a negative value and will indent, and white will still extrude (although it has a lower value).

I'm no expert but: 1. Everything is parented to something (apart from the Universe). When you load a new figure, it is parented to the Universe. To see what your figure is parented to, use the hierarchy editor and collapse the branches of all the various figures and props until you can see what the parent of your figure/object it. 2. The only way to do that appears to be to use the Object menu -> Change parent. Just parent the figure back to the Universe, which is the default state. 3. They are not quite the same - there are some additional buttons in the hierarchy editor. Also, if you select Figure 1 (for example) and choose Set Figure Parent, you won't see the object you have selected in it - fairly obviously you can't parent a figure to itself. In the hierarchy editor you can set a parent by dragging and dropping the figure/prop onto another object. The one thing you can't do, for some reason, is drag and drop onto the Universe - Poser won't do that. Use Change parent instead.

Thread: Glasses? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There were 3 sets of glasses in free stuff recently - search for Glasses01, Glasses02, and Glasses03. The first one looks similar to what you want.

Thread: Question about props and compatibility | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Spanki's 'Riptide' plugin for C4D has an option to automatically reverse normals on .obj exports - I keep this set so I don't have to remember to do it.

What about the demo versions of C4D? Can they be used to export a model as an .obj file?

Thread: Komodo dragon Poser model??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Little_Dragon, I take the point about different markets but the Komodo dragon at the Digimation site is extremely low poly, has no textures, and costs $94. Deep pockets and low expectation is the phrase that comes to mind for those who buy there! I think we're very lucky in the Poser world with the quality of stuff on sale.

Thread: BodyPaint 3D question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
BodyPaint has the steepest learning curve of any program I have tried (well, maybe ZBrush is steeper...). The problem is getting the workflow right. What you need to do is: 1) create your model - say, a simple cube. 2) collapse it (i.e. reduce it to polygons - primitives don't work properly, with a cube primitive you end up painting all six sides simultaneously. You can't prevent that unless you UV map the object, and you can't do that unless it's polygons. BP calls this making the object editable.). 3) create a material and drag the material 'ball' onto the object in the object manager. 4) open the material and create at least one texture. In the color channel, for example, you would click the arrow next to the 'Texture' label and then 'Create new texture'. You can adjust the name, size, etc. from the dialog. By default BP makes the texture have a dark grey background, so your object will immediately turn dark grey. 5) Now you could map your object. In this case, select the cube in the object manager, choose the 'UV polygon edit' tool, and then from the UV Mapping tab in the attributes manager, choose 'Projection' and then 'Box' projection. 6) Finally, paint your object. You can create other textures at any time and paint them too, either simultaneously (great for painting bump maps and color maps at the same time) or independently.

I saw your first post on this awful news a few days ago, so I bought something from both their stores. It isn't quite the same as direct donations, but if everybody did likewise...

I see that John Carpenter's classic 'The Fog' has just been remade. I can't believe it'll be as good as the original, they never are. Anyone in the US seen it - it hasn't been released in the UK yet, AFAIK.

I have to agree with Foxseelady. These are just schoolkids, right? Some of the work didn't look at all bad, and the 'self portrait' entry is really good. (I don't think scoleman123 was criticising the quality, more the categorisation, by the way.)

Thread: Poser 7 new features | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
For me, two things would do it in addition to fixing the bugs in P6: 1- get rid of the dreadful interface and change to something modern and functional, as seen in almost every other 3D app; 2 - do something about the light controls, which IMHO are awkward and hard to use.
