I had that happening to me. It might not be the same situation but here it is.
I would zoom the camera in and parts of my model I was focused on would disappear.
I switched to a top view and found because of my mm on my camera, the camera was really close to the object. It was actually when I 'zoomed' in it moved the camera into the 3d object which when the multi-view it just showed parts of the 3d object vanishing. I thought I was going crazy.
What I ended up doing was moving the object further back and chaning the mm on the camera to something better for the shot and I could zoom and move around so much better. My camera was so close that even little pans of the camera ended up making the objects appear that they jumped around even though I just wanted a hair adjustment so to speak.
Whats odd is I went to original file and tried to duplicate it and if I set the camera mm back to something unreasonable and scaled you can see that the camera is too close, parts aren't vanishing etc. Perhaps it was a glitch and when I clicked on a MM for the camera setting it 'fixed' itself. I am not sure, but you could give it a try and see if it 'rights' itself. I will have to recreate the scene from scratch and see if I can get it to duplicate it now. I think it had to do with something about small model to camera size or something. If I can replicate I will post again

ShareCG perhaps? they don't use advertising to pay for the bandwidth here is probably the reason why Flight. There are some other filesharing websites that some artists use I can dig those up as well.

What is this "weekly lets learn" thing you speak of?
http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=77208 is the thread which is a pointer to the specific weekly subject threads which get more detailed.
The Stickies in that forum have a couple of other tutorial threads Carrara 6 Tutorials reference list. is one.
*the FUR/Hair tutorial by Holly2000 is excellent and easy to follow.
There are some tutorials here in the Carrara backroom as well http://backroom.renderosity.com/~carrara/
**Note to mods if its not okay to post these links just remove.. thanks!

This is for an older version of Carrara so I am sure there are perhaps better ways. http://www.designertoday.com/Tutorials/Misc/1409/Undersea.Effects.with.Light.Cones.and.Gels.in.Carrara.Carrara.Tutorial.aspx

Sometimes its hard because you can go in so many directions. There are many good tutorials on bits and pieces of the puzzle, both here and on the Daz Forums (take a look at the weekly lets learn that went on). Something that is helping me greatly is the Tutorials by Mark Bremmer. The ones that VTC sells either online or a DVD.
What is it you want to create, or see yourself creating.

No manual in the boxed version, but I found a place for .04 a page and simply had the manuals printed and bound in a nice wide spiral binding. Actually in 3 since its nearly 700 pages. I just got the VTC carrara tutorial haven't gotten through alot of it yet but I really like it so far.

There is a 'beta' 2.2.2.17 that they released due to a problem with one of the libraries. I know it caused issues with some plug-ins that it seemed to take care of, I don't know if the error your having fixed with it or not, but most seem to like the .17 over the .15
