To answer your question bloodsong, I am a military nut. I have no less than 45 different books behind me on every war fought over the past 70 years that America was involved in. Now, by nut I dont mean that I live in a concrete bunker and have 8 years of MRE's stored away but that is my primary interest. Outside of the computer, reading, and the history channel there isn't a lot else I spend much time on other than the whole work thing (damn house payment). Anyway, I originally bought vue so that it could complement Poser. But now I find myself more drawn to working in Vue and just using poser to accent the pictures I build. Anyway, I find myself drawn to animals and military figures when bringing figures into poser most of the time. Not sure why but my first 3 real pictures contained an animal of some sort, not as a focal point but more of an accent piece. Now if I can just get someone to model me a Pomeranian my wife would be in heaven as we have one that believes firmly that it is our only child.

Wow, that alpha plane thing is wonderful. If ever I run across the author I definetly owe him a beer. Going to spend an hour or so alpha mapping 3 different trees of each of the major species so I have them available when I need them.

Yeah the grass was a quick and dirty test to see what I got just using the defaults. Actually I intended to remove it from the final render but forgot about it. Going to spend most of the night tonight going over the ridgeline and the grass, once I am happy with that I can import some more figures from poser to make the scene. Thanks for all the help folks, as usual you guys/gals (must be politically correct) are great.
Thread: Vue or Bryce | Forum: Vue
Well I went through the same thing here recently. A friend of mine had an ancient copy of Bryce, version 3 I think that I played with a bit. After about 2 hours of trying to figure out where everything was I gave up. Downloaded the vue demo and ordered it the next day. I just can't help feeling that Vue is much much more user friendly, and personally I think the interface is light years beyond what even bryce 5 has. Really for the price, you just can't beat it. It imports poser figures, .3ds, .lwo etc. You just can't go wrong NOTE: This opinion is biased as the writer just spent what he and his wife considers quite a bit of money on a program. Your mileage may vary.

Looks like zipped it weighs in at about 8.16 megs but the textures are 2560 X 1920 so they should cover any needs you may have. If you are a modem user let me know and I will reduce the size of them to a manageable one.

Ahh the M249 is commonly known as the SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon). From the angle of the picture I couldn't tell if that was a 100 round drum magazine or not on there. As for the textures I have converted them all to .jpg files and can zip them up make them available in the free stuff here if anyone thinks they might be useful. For now I will leave them at the link provided with this message. Will take me a few minutes from the time of this posting to get them up there though.Thread: Why is Vue trying to access the Internet? | Forum: Vue
You are correct on the 255 series there Moonbiter. Not all of the time but 99.9% it is used to broadcast traffic.
Thread: Why is Vue trying to access the Internet? | Forum: Vue
That looks mighty odd. 255 is usually a reserved range in any IP scheme, and very very seldom does anyone actually use 255 in the 4th octect much less the second and third. Are you on a home LAN, if so is that the IP range you are using? I ask this because the IP it is going to is a non responsive one and the tracert stops at my hosts DNS server.

Oh if you want some different camo textures to play with let me know, I have a pretty good collection of high quality camo images (15 meg tif files taken with a nikon 5000). Currently only have one desert camo but I have a 6 color desert piece of cloth on order.

I really like the way the picture makes you feel like you are in the action. Personally I think what is missing is what you would normally see in the street. You know people, methods of transportation, signs, trash, shell casings, etc. The small details really serve to spice up any picture even if you don't notice them right away. On that note how about a tracer or two in there somewhere, maybe some dust blowing about the street or being kicked up by rounds hitting the dirt. I love the muzzle flash (something I have been trying to figure out how to do today, with little luck), but move the character to a less rigid pose, hunch him over a bit at the abdomen so he looks like he is bracing for the recoil. Oh by the way, where did you get that M60 model, that thing looks awesome. It is so hard to find good current weapon models. Been looking everywhere for an M16A/M203.

What do you get when a dinosaur steps in a big pile of doo... see picture above ;-) Very nice though, I am considering giving it a go but am not quite sure how I want to go about it yet.
Thread: How can i transform a jpg document in tif | Forum: Poser Technical
I would guess you mean how do you convert a .jpg file to a .tif file. One option would be to save it as a.tif in photoshop or a similar program. There is a catch to that though. A .tif file is an uncompressed graphic, that can range anywhere from 2-15 megs per picture. Once it is compressed to jpg, moving it back to a .tif is not really going to gain you anything other than a larger file size as the quality has already been degraded due to the compression of the .jpg format. Is there some specific reason you need it in a .tif format?

That is amazing, i love how the cloth is distorted when looking through the top of the glass. Wonderful work.

The material is the chipped rock with paths. As of the making of that image I had not gone through the manual far enough to find out how to edit materials so that is a default setting. I wanted to add more small items to it but it was 2 AM and my poor eye's hadn't blinked in about 9 hours of playing with vue and reading the manual. I am still working on it this morning though, got a little more real looking water version but I still don't like it..

All of the items are those that come with vue. The sand does need some work, maybe some pebbles scattered or something. I used the one of the night time preset and moved the light so that there was no lens flare. Thanks for the kind words all.
