Thread: Photographing White Birds in Bright daylight for Misha883 | Forum: Photography
My favorite lens is a Canon 100-400 mm IS it has good range and is very clear. Another consideration is that it's light in comparison to some of the longer telephotos. I used a Canon 500 mm IS and 600 mm IS this weekend they are just to heavy to use shooting off hand and require a tripod for any length of use, 30 min hand holding the 500 and I was really unsteady.

Misha883 I'm not a very good technical writer I hope any one reading this could follow it. I can also post some tips on lining up a shot and the use of fill flash to augment the natural light.

DHolman Do you have plans to get this one? I have read several post around about it. This is the first one that is from a Canon site. I'm very excited. $4500 would be a big jump over the D2H I'm wishing the it will come in at 3995.00 that will be in reach. Randy

Thread: First decent D100 image... | Forum: Photography
I have really just started experimenting with the custom white balance before I would use ether auto or preset. The auto settings have really done well for me. The only thing I see that might be a problem is the spot metering in a shot like this maybe partial or centerweighted might have worked better. I only spot metering on a very tight shot with a well defined subject. Is that a function of the programed auto exposure? I typically use ether shudder or aperture priority depending on the light. I had some of the same issues when I got my 10D Canon as far as the learning curve. One thing that helped me was studying the file info of most of my shots for a long time to figure out what was working and when. Do you set custom white balance or use a preset or auto? What ISO are you using. I was trying to use 100 for everything because I did not want to get excessive noise or grain. I'm now comfortable at 400 or even 800 with low f/stops and removing the noise with PS. I don't use any sharping in the camera and adobe RGB. I have say I was very frustrated in the beginning. Now it's just moderate frustration...

Thread: Too Dark ? | Forum: Photography
Michelle, After reading some of the post in the forum I was afraid that others would see it too dark partly because in the difference in monitor settings. I like the dark background because of the separation. I wanted to make sure that I did not take it to far and detract form the image. Thanks Randy

@firestorm it does help, for instance in the second one my display is pretty dark and I could not even see what you were talking about until I really sat and studied it. thanks.
