There's another thing I've found that can cause the black spots - co-linear facets. If the first three vertices of a facet are all on the same line, any program that tries to use them to determine which way the facets if facing won't be able to do so. FWIW, Steve

Right - you said it loads from the geometries file and maps fine, I should have figured Poser 4 from that... When you load the object from the library, try exporting it and loading it back into UVMapper to see how it's texture mapped. That might give you a little more infoirmation... Sorry, it's all I can think of. Good luck, Steve

What version of Poser are you using? If it's Poser 3 there was a problem with UV coordinates being inverted. Try flipping the texture map vertically (not the same as rotating it 180 degrees.) HTH, Steve

Jon - I just updated your model so that it has only one material and one group, and sent along some recommendations to try to get it to work. Please let me know if it's any help. Good luck, Steve

You don't want to replace the original Poser obj with one that you've exported. The original model contains smoothing groups that Poser doesn't export. If you start with the original geometry file it should work. There's a little more information in this tutorial I wrote: http://www.uvmapper.com/uvmappos.htm BTW, UVMapper doesn't change a models geometry. Hi jstro - If you want to send me the model and texture map, I can take a look at it and probably tell you what's going wrong. Steve stevecox@optonline.net

Hi Darkorb - Sorry, my response to you must have gotten lost somewhere. I just went through my 'sent items' folder and tried sending it again (though it seems that everyone here was more helpful than I was...) Thanks for the help everyone, Steve

weggingt - If the model is one you can send to me, I'll take a look at it here to see if I can find the problem. I promise not to use the model for anything other than helping to track down the problem. Steve stevecox@optonline.net

To remap a Poser model and still be able to pose the model afterwards, take a look at the tutorial on my site. HTH, SteveThread: Max to Poser sphere problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If it's just a sphere you need you can create on using UVMapper ("File->New Model->Shpere"). If you can send me the original sphere, I'll have a look and let you know what I find. Steve stevecox@optonline.net

Also, you might want to make a habit of painting outside the lines a little. Some renderers interpret UV coordinates a little differently (truncate/rounding errors) which can cause them to differ by a pixel or two... Steve

Okay, I just reinstalled RDS 5.5 on my iBook (it's been a little while!) The version of the OBJ export/import filter I'm using is 5.0.3 (Apple->About Extensions->3D Import->OBJ import") same as the Windows version. If you're using 5.0 I think you're out of date. Are you getting the option "Create RDS objects as:" when you import? I checked and I think that you want to select "Simple Meshes" to allow more than one UV coordinate per vertex when you import. If you want to send me a copy as well, I'd be glad to take a look at it. Steve stevecox@optonline.net Ps. thanks for the welcome Clint =)

Which version of the OBJ importer are you using with RDS? (Go to "Help->About Extensions->3D Import->OBJ") If it's not the latest one (I'm using 5.0.3) I don't think you can import models with multiple UV coordinates per vertex. On import, try selecting each option for "Create RDS objects as:" (Vertex Primitives or Simple Meshes. Sorry, I can't remember which you need to use to get multiple UVs per vertex) One of them should fix the problem. Also, as Clint suggests, you might want to use box remap while in UVMapper to make working with the texture map a little easier... HTH, Steve

Actually, if you use "split vertices" the model will then look faceted in Poser. Poser uses common vertices to smooth the model so splitting the vertices will make it unable to do that (this will also give you hard edges for furnature, etc.) Splitting the vertices doesn't affect texture mapping. Instead, simply load the model into UVMapper, select "Edit->New UV Map->Planar" and be sure "Split by orientation" is selected. Then save out the updated model as well as the texture map template. Also, take a look at my tutorial for more information. SteveThread: Tiled Textures on props | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Whoops, I had accidently overwritten render.jpg on my site. It's fixed and should make more sense now. Steve
