I'm guessing that too, but that doesn't explain the slow material room and overall weirdness. I recall seeing something on the poser support website about this, but don't remember well what the answer was (if any)

Thread: PoserPro2010 OpenGL Problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I add myself to the guys having problems with Poser on ATI cards.
I just upgraded to an ATI FirePro, downloaded the latest drivers (the ones that were up around 2 weeks ago) and I am having different kinds of problems. Viewport artifacts, slow material room, weird behavior when I start a new scene, or try to open a scene when another one's already open.
I am using the latest drivers so I can rule out that option...
What gives?

You don't have a framesize limit. I don't remember if you can import your footage and use that as a reference when creating your particles, but I think you should.
Layering, well there's no layering in PI, so it's better if you render out your particles as separate passes.
All of the stock effects are editable, and you can even replace the sprites in any effect with sprites of your own.
BTW I don't really think you're going to get anything easier than Particle Illusion for the work you're trying to do.

I used it some time ago. The main limitation would be the fact that they are pretty much 2d sprites to be placed on top of your renders.
Is there anything specific you may want to know? BTW I am not an expert with that software, just got to use it a little bit :P

I've been hearing about it for like 2 years, but still haven't seen the movie, nor I know if it's available (or even finished?)

I'd dare say anything is superior to Poser when it comes to animation

The Maya PLE is not available anymore. Autodesk replaced it with the 30 day demo.

I haven't had the chance to try out Poser Pro 2010 so I can't give you any input on this.
All I know is that Poser has never been the best animation tool out there. Or at least not for many of us who've had the chance to use real tools like Maya, MotionBuilder, Cinema or Softimage...

Thread: AfterEffects Animation Light Coruscation | Forum: Animation
Off the top of my head this is what I'd do.
I would create a white solid en AFX, and then create an animated polygon mask to create the effect. I'd add effects to do the "feather-distorted" effect around the edges. I'd render that out and then use the image sequence as a texture in Cinema4D
I hope that makes any sense. If it doesn't you may want to grab your AFX manual and check on the terms I used :)

Let me see. You want to create the animated light map or whatever in After FX so you can map it on top of your sphere?

I totally agree with CaptainJack on the book and the video references.
Software is actually a secondary thing. If you know how to animate a human, you will be able to animate it in any software package you can think of, for those who can't animate, their resulting work will be no different if they use Maya or Poser, for example.

Nice.
Personally I would have LOVED if the B&W version had an "old film" effect. That would've been a killer!
