I think what's being asked is, with the plants in freestuff here (which are in .vob format) can you use them as with the plants provided with Vue itself to generate different variations on the same plant. The answer is no, my understanding is that you have to have a plant in .veg format to do that. A .vob format plant will give you an identical copy whenever it is used, although rotating and scaling it will make the various copies look slightly different, especially at a distance.

Thread: Dr Geep is _________ ........................ ;=[ ....................... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes, it is extremely slow and getting worse IMO. At this moment there are said to be 1661 'surfers' and it's taking 30 seconds plus to change pages. Have you noticed that whenever this issue is raised the response from a Rendo admin is conspicuously absent? (Not the forum mods but the boss of all the bosses?)

Thread: Creating Mat Files | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, your first point is straightforward. The .jpg is the actual texture file but it won't show up anywhere in the Poser library. Only the files within the runtime/libraries folder will do that. When you create the .pz2 which is the actual MAT file, it will point Poser to the texture in your textures/amanda folder. In theory the texture file could go anywhere on your hard drive but that isn't a good idea - it's best practice to put it in the textures folder somewhere to avoid your Poser files becoming spread all over the place.
In your second point, what you need to do is first (in Poser) navigate to where you want to store the .cr2 file you're going to create. You could choose, for example, the figures library and the folder where the figure you are creating the MAT for is located. When you click the + button, Poser will write a .cr2 for you in that folder. This will be in a subfolder of the runtime/libraries/character folder, not in the /character folder itself. This might be why you can't find it. The subfolder you need is, of course, the one where you asked Poser to save the .cr2 file.
Hope that helps a little - if it's still unclear, get back to us!

Thread: A honest comment The RANT | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Of course if nobody ever commented then none of us would ever learn anything. Personally I can usually tell the difference between honest, constructive criticism and somebody trying to be unpleasant, and I just ignore the latter. There are some comments which are difficult to classify like this, either because the commenter's native language isn't English or because they have an unfortunate way of expressing things, but that's life.
Those comments intended to be helpful, though, are worth a great deal, because they represent genuine criticism from which I can learn. Comments from friends or family are useless because they will presumably try to be supportive even if they think your images are dreadful.
For me, I know my images aren't very good, so I want people to comment and if they do say something constructive I can either listen and learn or ignore if I don't agree. The genuine trolls bother me not at all. But I do agree with one point - if artists don't like the comments they get, why let others make comments? It's just a tick box, after all, to remove that possibility (but then they wouldn't get the 'wow, awesome' comments that I guess they like).

Thread: banned | Forum: Community Center
Anyone whose IP address was banned can just get himself a new ISP and he'd have a new IP address. And I wonder how such bans would cope with dynamic IP addresses? Perhaps that's why they don't do them any more (if that is in fact the case).

Thread: displacementmaps ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A bump map isn't the same thing. Bump maps create an optical illusion of bumps or pits, but if you look carefully (especially at the edge of a model) you can see that the geometry is still smooth. Displacement maps alter the actual geometry, which gives greater realism and better shadowing.

38 seconds in the P6 runtime (most of my stuff is in other runtimes) opening into a blank scene. 3GHz Pentium 4, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HD with about 75% free, win xp pro.

Thread: Shadow Independence | Forum: Vue
How about turning off cast shadows for the birdbath, then render with soft shadows, then repeat the render with hard shadows, turning on shadows for the birdbath and off for the tree? You have to disable/enable casting shadows on a per-material basis, but it might work. Then you can compose in PS.

Thread: Dosch models, textures, compatible??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have several of the Dosch texture packs. They are mostly in .JPG format (some I have are .PSD). The jpegs are certainly compatible with and usable in Poser - in that respect they are like any other textures. If Bryce can use jpegs then they are usable there, too. I don't have any of the models but if they are in a Poser-compatible format (e.g. .OBJ) then you can load and render them in Poser, but not pose them (unless you rig them yourself, of course).

Yes indeed, preferably configurable (i.e. set the number of undos, as you can in P6 with the past renders).

Thread: A Renderosity Feature Request | Forum: Community Center
While we're at it, another feature request, this time for the MP. Merchants sometimes upload revised/updated versions of their products, and while some of them email purchasers to let them know, not all do. Could Rendo develop a system whereby when an updated product is made available, all previous purchasers get an ebot?
Thanks for considering this - I know it has been requested before!
