I saved a scene with a Michael and a milleneum cat. When I brought it back up, Michael was still there but there were only eyes where the cat used to be. Must be a Cheshire cat with the wrong morph :-)

Thread: Adding a Texture to a Procedural Terrain | Forum: Vue
As I understand it, some materials will cause the underlying geometry of a procedural terrain to change, altering the terrain's shape. To prevent this Vue offers to add some nodes to the function which controls the procedural terrain's geometry in order to retain the shape.
So normally you would answer yes to this if you want to keep the shape of the terrain you have made.

Thread: Poser 6 Poll - Glad I Bought It? -or- Wish I'd Waited? ... Please Respond | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm glad I bought it despite the memory bug kicking in from time to time. It'll be fixed and I don't depend on Poser for my living so it's (for me) not a cause to wish I hadn't bought it. Does great renders and I'm particularly pleased with the lighting.

Thread: how do i turn down point light shadows | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmm.. I haven't had any problems turning down shadow strength for point lights using the dial, and for me unchecking the cast shadows box works as intended. The main problem, and I'm sure this is my lack of understanding of point lights more than anything, is that the shadows cast seem very long and exaggerated if the light is even a few degrees off of a vertical overhead position.

Would they not accept the actual CD as proof? Maybe she could send them the CD by registered mail (check that they will accept this as proof of purchase before sending it though). Seems unfair that someone who really has bought the product can't convince the vendor of the fact :-(

Thread: Square Spots (shadows)? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
When I get weird unexplained spots like that the first thing I've checked for is that 'reuse shadow maps' is not selected. I puzzled over this for some time before catching on :-)
It doesn't really look like that's the cause of your problem, but worth checking anyway.

Thread: The Memory Bug | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
For me this only seems to happen with a complex figure (Jessi) plus conforming clothing and the Winter Queen wings all loaded, then the render settings in the 'auto' window turned up as high as possible - i.e. the slider all the way to the right. Moving it one notch left kills the bug, but I suspect it would come back if another figure was added. The bug only appears when I try to render the scene, so it isn't an OpenGL problem, for example.
2Gb machine with nvidia GeForce FX 5600 XT with 128 Mb on board memory (I think).

Yes, but see my post #10 above. (Actually, I'll probably buy it anyway. I'm a sucker for books, can't resist them!)

Thread: 'Til SR1, P6 is a magnificent racehorse with a lame leg...... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Have to agree. I loaded up one of the Winter Queen sets, just that and nothing else, cranked the render settings up to maximum in the auto window, and P6 fell over with the memory bug. Not so good, really. Okay, I can get round it by turning down the render quality but I shouldn't have to on this 2Gb machine. Other than that, I really like it.

There's also the GIMP, which has been available for Windows systems for a while. More complex to set up than the others mentioned here but a powerful piece of software.

In case anyone doesn't know, Mr. Hernandez was the author of the Poser 4 and 5 manuals. I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I think I might be a touch reluctant to buy the 'Poser revealed' book in that case, but I've already ordered the animations book by him now.

Yes, I have that one on order as well. Be interesting to see these two books, there haven't been very many on Poser so far.

Thread: Poser 6 revealed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Interesting (and slightly annoying) that it's available for order on amazon.com but not amazon.co.uk. However, amazon uk does have a book called 'Poser Revealed' (note the absence of any '6') which apparently is by Anthony Hernandez, and if you look carefully at the image on amazon.com (see dr. geep's link) the cover actually credits Hernandez, not Murdock, and also doesn't have the '6' in the title. 'Poser Revealed' is said to be a hard to find title, publication date Dec 04. Presumably it never got published due to the then imminent release of P6, but I wonder why the apparent change of author?
The flier included in the P6 box definitely says P6 on the book cover, and Murdock is credited, but otherwise the cover is identical. Very odd.
