As a very happy user of Poser 5, Eovia's Transposer and Carrara 3, there are ways to generate true GI outside of Poser5 or Daz Studio.
Thread: Dodger's remarkable innovation | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Could someone detail how us Mac users how we would decode the figure since that is the only thing preventing me from buying it or is that information included with the model?
Thread: Vascular Bump Map for Michael | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If I recall, there is a vascular map for M3 attached to the M3 Warlord Barbarian at Daz3d which is identical to the Daz3d Vascular map used for the Mike 2 barbarian warlord.

I was going to recommend the "Russel" by nouscha from Renderosity Store, the "AdrianM3" from RDna, the millenium beard from Daz3d has two 5'o'clock shadows... Jepe has a set of hairy textures and they include an unshaven face...

Thread: Eovia to Preview Poser Transporter Plugin at MacWorld Expo 2004 | Forum: Carrara
I had the chance to swing by the booth at Macworld in San francisco and talk to the nice people of Eovia. The plug-in isn't completely finished (the Windows versus is a little ahead of the Mac version) but I got a chance to see an import of an animation from the Mac Poser 5 to Carrara 3. I can hardly wait to render animation that way. My impression is that this is not a primary project for Eovia but a bit more of a labor of love and so there hasn't been any real thought about how to package it as a product yet if it is even released as a product and not as a free download. My guess is that the announcement had more to do with reminding Mac people that they hadn't been forgotten as an audience aand would retain product parity.
Thread: Import from Poser 4 OS9-OSX? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Having done this myself, I was lazy and kept my installed Poser 4 and installed libraries. I then told Poser 5 to look in my Poser 4 directories for figures, lights, poses etc... Finally, I copied the poser library called !DAZ to my Poser 5 library folder (this is essential if you don't want to be prompted for poses when you load Michael, Freak or Victoria 3. When I install new items I either use the regular installer that Daz provides or if it is a vendor, Stuffit Expander, MacConverter, MacInstaller and copy any changes to the Poser 4 !DAZ folder to the Poser 5 !Daz folder (you will know when you have to when the file contains inj or rem files...

Thread: Has anyone actually received their C3 yet? | Forum: Carrara
I got it yesterday, installed it...and love it! The organization of the program seems subtly different from the Beta but my renders have worked well (caustics work) and the manual seems okay. I feel like I should be finding more shaders, the models are the same that came with Carrara but there are some wonderful textures for planets!

I don't remember who made them but there was a library of Bryce models in www.3dcommune.com of various amino acids, compounds like nicotine and simple atoms...
Thread: Politically correct help needed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just to answer Variane's question, I think where one can get into trouble is that there are many archaic terms for groups of people that still seem to circulate and there is a history of thinking about complex groups of people as a single physical characteristic. Unfortunately, most of them are slurs. By analogy, if you refer to a woman by a term for female genitalia (no matter how fond you are of that anatomy) or as an animal (even though you love female dogs), it will still be perceived as a slur. I believe, as a general rule, it is best not to "guess" but to ask as Ghostofmacbeth has done and, likewise, be told in a friendly and imformative way what name I respond to pleasantly.
Thread: Politically correct help needed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
First, Ghostofmacbeth, I do want to thank you since it is rare to see any interest in the question of politeness and ethnicity in the Renderosity community. I use the term "black" for myself but I can understand if you wish to use a term that is more regionally or ethnically descriptive. My own feeling is that it is more polite to avoid names that objectify i.e... "Chocolate Bar for Michael" or names that display an ignorance of history i.e... "Sambo for Michael" but there is nothing wrong with "Shades of Blackness for V3" or "Caramel to Chocolate tones for V3. As for complaints about your choice of names, as long as you remain as sensitive and polite as you seem, I think the name that you choose will be fine. I must add the proviso that you should think about the audience you are selling to and avoid familarity or the urge to ignore your customer.
