Quote - > Quote - I nearly always select anything from the list, because clicking on something in the scene seems virtually guaranteed to result in the selection of just about anything other than the intended item. I'd really like to see that improved (well, "fixed" would be the more appropriate term).
In Poser 7 if you right click over something in the scene it will bring up the menu where the first flyout/submenu is a list of everything "under" the cursor.
I think it is the new feature i use most in P7
I'm going to cry if that's true! That must be the new z-sort object selection bullet point that I figured was about as real as linked parameter dials... (Sorry, I know some of you can script those in python, but I was having beatific visions of noodles and math functions linking parameter values as in the material editor. Gawd that would rock.)

I wish when saving a scene, it would remember the last directory that had a scene saved. That it would remember the last directories objects were imported from and/or exported to. That the renderer would remember the last place a render was saved to, and the mat room would remember the last place a texture was loaded from. AFAICT, Poser only remembers ONE directory at any time, so this has about a one in four chance of being the one I want. Why don't conforming figures' like-named parameter dials assume the values of the figures they are conformed to? Why isn't there a "hide other objects" in the morph tool like in the group editor? And would the group editor person * puh-leeze * rip off Wing's method of growing/shrinking edge/face selection by using the +/- keys, or add +/-buttons?
Other than that, just give me shadows and bump/normal maps in the preview and for chrissakes some... any... form of soft-bodies or weight mapping. Look at something like Soul Calibur (soft bodies) or Killzone 2 (dynamic clothing) for PS3. It'd be hell to get something like that out of Poser, and those are running in real time.

Vestmann: Great way of putting that. I think when I finally rig a character, I will set the unnatural bends' limits to zero and use very high limits for legal bends. I find that I can't really use the joint limits function as some figures' limits are just too conservative.
Most of my early Poser time was spent learning how to get my old content in from other programs. I was modeling for several years before getting Poser, and wasn't just getting started in 3D. I'd just come to Windows from Amiga (used Caligari) and Poser was the program I was always jealous of.
Is there a way I can edit my typos?

Well, there are those "ahh-haa!" moments. First one was, obviously, any change made to your figure proportions need to be made to their conforming clothes. Second one was realising that only the obj. format could get me between the programs I used without losing something. Third was realsiing that highlight size was nearly as important as colour and strength. Then that bump maps shouldn't just be greyscale textures, you need to think about where the bumps are. If you're adding a morph to an object, set all of the other morph valuse to zero, or they will be incuded. IK is useful when you want it, but not when you don't. It also tends to cause unnatural bending in figures. Hands shouldn't twist, the forearm should twist instead. Conversely, feet should move at the ankle, unless you're bending the knee until the calf contacts the thigh. Then it's whatever works best. A good default set-up is to set lights 1 and 3 to no specular, no shadow. It'll render quicker and look far less plastic with basic materials. The free version of UV mapper creates perfectly useful texture templates. If you use Wings, adjust your obj. import/export properties to scale up on import, and down on export. 10.0/0.10, or it will be very hard to do anything. If you open a zip and find a file called runtime, you can probably assume it can just be copied over your runtime, as oppsed to maually mving its contents. The most common name for a file is probably "readme". Lock actor is really useful, unless you turn it on by mistake. Also, never forget that practically any object in the scene can have it's own draw style in preview. Setting your props to outline reduces the chance that you'll have to change draw styles to see your figure. Teeth aren't usually pure white. Oh well, those were the ones that come to mind.

I remember back in middle school when I was always drawing transformers and such. There'd always be these kids that'd start bringing me their pics to look at. Every now and then it was just a tracing of an "original" drawing I'd given them previously! But, to be fair, there was a kid in 3rd grade who started a comic strip about ducks, and before the year was up I had my own comic strip about ducks. I had absolute freedom to choose an animal I like better, and still went with ducks. He came up with a character called "Old George" and days later I was drawing a guy called "Uncle George". Yet, just a few years later I criticised a friend's design for looking too much like an AT-ST from Star Wars. Not all 3D artists are designers. A great many of them measure their skill by how well they can approximate another impressive work.
Damn nostril glow... I fix it by creating a nostril group, copying the body mat and setting spec to zero, and lowering the dif just a tad. It's not the best solution, but it keeps nostril glow from being the first thing I notice in a pic.
Thread: Carrara 6 coming soon | Forum: Carrara
I could've sworn I'd gotten back to this. Yes, I did confirm that it's 5 to 6, 5 Pro to 6 Pro. Not sure which to get, as I can't really afford either.

A large part of Daz's business is selling content. As I understand, the free plug-in lets you use dynamic content all you want, but to make new dynamic content requires the full version. Makes enough sense to me, though of course I wish everything was free.
Thread: Carrara 6 coming soon | Forum: Carrara
Since most of you already have Carrara, you're probably just excited that version 6 is coming. Still, the way I read this offer, if I buy either 5 or 5 pro I get the same version 6. There is no mention of buy 5 get 6, buy 5 pro get 6 pro, leading me to wonder if under Daz there will just be one Carrara version for everyone. Am I reading this wrong, or maybe being too optimistic?
Thread: Carrara 6 coming soon | Forum: Carrara
Hmmm... I just got the same thing. My question is, will there be a regular and pro version of Cararra 6? I'd like to buy 5 for $87 and get 6, but would be disappointed if there were a 6 pro with desirable features, unless I could upgrade somehow. 5 Pro is just too much for me right now having bought TS 7.5 and Hex 2.2 in just a few months. I'm so glad they're announcing it though, I'd started to worry.
Thread: OT: Turbo Squid removing all Lockheed models | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I thought I'd read that they were being taken down regardless of name if an offending resemblance was claimed...
Yup, page 1:
"Just to let everyone know, Turbo Squid is removing all products that have any similarities to real-world vehicles made by Lockheed, Cessna, and Bell Helicopter, irregardless of the name of the digital product."
Thread: OT: Turbo Squid removing all Lockheed models | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's freaking war machines were talking about. So, by the reasoning that they are within their rights to protect the image of their product and company, what if one of these companies objects to, for example, the New York times running a picture form Iraq that shows one of their war machines in a less than favourable light? That''ll be great when the media can't cover a war because all of the soldier's weapons, uniforms and vehicles are copyrighted designs. Bell should've tried that in Vietnam, they could've kept the whole war off of TV.
Thread: Morphing tool - how to affect multiple parts/groups? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
No that's correct. I spaced out and forgot that I could get the groups back out of the welded obj mesh with the script.
Thread: Morphing tool - how to affect multiple parts/groups? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm still trying to figure out how to modify an obj for just one figure that uses it. Only thing that comes to mind, a seperate runtime, doesn't seem the ideal solution.
Thread: Morphing tool - how to affect multiple parts/groups? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Wouldn't changing the obj affect all the characters that used it? How would you change just one character using this method?
