I think anytime you put "pro" in the title of a 3d app, they (the developers) have to understand that you are committing to making a piece of software that will be part of a pipeline.
This is a serious commitment. I've worked for several companies where this is true.
When a feature is not working as it should, you get a call, not from a user/hobbyist, but from the technical director of a MAJOR production. I guarentee you, these calls are not friendly and if the issue(s) cannot be resolved, the entire app can eventually get blackballed by the industry (news travels fast in those circles).
If Poser Pro needs to be expensive to meet those industry needs, so be it. I VERY much look forward to seeing poser reach that pro level.

Quote - I don't blame outfits like SM for keeping these things close to the vest. Best for them if they do -- for a number of reasons. Discussing commercial software development in public can be risky.
I don't believe that is a constant in software development (e.g. Adobe), but some companies obviously employ that philosophy.

I would at least like to see a development update to re-assure people that the product is actively being worked on.
Having no news at all as to what's going on gives less credence to the possibility of release. Especially given that Smith Micro just bought these assets.
C'mon SM give some examples of these new features! Give us some renders, some animations, render node setup examples,...etc.
Thread: OT: trying to identify a style of art | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It looks like a neopagan-style of art which goes back to the early 1900's in england (tarot cards).
Thread: P7 and opengl | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I can only load so many objects - at a certain point, if I have too many objects in a scene, opengl goes completely wack. Switching to the alternative display mode is probably the best solution for now.

I don't know why you need so much background "noise" when you want to focus on the character. Look at most traditional portrait photos - the subject dominates the photo. Just my 2 cents
Thread: sketch renders | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think sketch render is one of the things I like most about poser. Especially the script export function. That is truly a wonderful, wonderful thing.
Thread: My latest short animation on YouTube | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm getting what looks like 14-18fps through youtube and I have a very, very fast connection, so that matches what everyone else is seeing I guess.
If it was rendered at that framerate, consider adding an amount of motion blur as that can smooth things out
Mac gamma is different than PC gamma (pc is slightly darker) - just FYI
I think you are capturing the grime and "street" of the city surface while contrasting that with refined tech and aesthetic at higher altitudes (ala bladerunner). You might consider stronger color and shade contrast but I really like how the green-glasses character emerges. If I just saw the green glasses at first in pure black, and then the face emerging around the glasses as reflections of light hit his face - that'd be cool.
Looking forward to seeing your next piece.
Thread: OT: Here it comes: Vista SP1 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Agreed; The issue for me and others is that we have a pipeline that uses legacy applications. If all of your apps are Vista-compatible, your pipeline is fine, otherwise there's trouble.
Thread: OT: Here it comes: Vista SP1 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've got the inside track on SP1. You Vista owners out there will find SP1 does fix some issues and addresses some complaints, but it is and will forever be bloated and a resource hog.
There is absolutely nothing you can do about that.
I miss the Win2k speediness and UI, but whatever.

Thread: background shader node and sketch designer help | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah,...ok,...stupid me,...
In order to sketch render a material containing an image or avi, you must have 1 light present.
Even though the shader node will display the image in preview without the presence of light.

Quote - Perhaps I'm wrong here, but from my understanding, in order to do motion capture, you need sensors attached to a moving subject in order to input the motion data. Such systems are extremely expensive./quote]
Some motion capture apps use tracking (kinda like AE's tracking method). So, ping pong balls on a black suit, which provides the needed contrast to allow the tracker to adequately capture the motion, but definitely, using sensors or even better, a "tracking suit" is the popular method in the industry.

Someone mentioned in another forum (on another site) the idea of using After Effect motion tracker as a basis for creating BVH. That's not a half-bad idea!

It's freeware, so don't expect a lot. There are several commercial packages that are available - or you could simply grab a bvh viewer utility and browse the various collections on the web
