I wonder why there aren't any tutorials for hair, since there has been an explosion in hair products recently by a whole bunch of people, at least since I started using Poser, back in 2004. So it makes me think it's an easy process and therefore no need for any tuts? Or a super duper ultra secret that you need to be a member in the hair club for Poser in order to share?
Thanks Dark for putting probably the most informative bit of info on hair modeling that I've come across. Hmm maybe you could do a tutorial? ;)
Thread: Creating conforming hair | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Since my know-how on modeling amounts to probably a Tablespoon, I've always wondered about making hair. Is 3dsMax is the only program used for hair? That program costs around what, $4k? That's a lot of money to shell out for practise makes perfect modeling. Can any modeling program do the same thing? Would using PhilCs program be kind of a get your feet wet in modeling hair? I was hoping to see more tests posted. What have you discovered so far, Believable3d?

Heya,
Thanks for the links. The web site that gave me fits did have the the ones listed first. I will have to take another look at Poserworld, it's been a while since I was over there :) I knew I could count on the Poser network, you guys rock!

Thread: Lower jaw problem on V4 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I am using 4.2 and I went back after posting and did my usual trick of just moving the lower jaw and zero back the dials and it would put the jaw back where it should be, but this time it didn't work. So I unchecked the "visible" for the time being. Kind of annoying to see the red bottom jaw and teeth poking thru the lower part of the face when I start moving the head around while posing.

I haven't seen them before...but deviantart.com has a huge section on photoshop brushes. If you do a search of a griffon or pegasus you might find them.
Thread: Site Hacked again?Virus warning? | Forum: Community Center
I got this exact message when right after surfing DAZ I went to RuntimeDNA and the web page froze while it opened the main page and then I got 3 windows that opened 2 related to that "Gol" site and the 3rd was my virus protection program telling me it had detected a trojan before it landed on my system in the Java file. It wanted me to download a file and it was telling me that my system had verified it as friendly so it was "ok" to download. Which I didn't mainly because it was unusual to have that pop up when I've been a member for years and haven't seen anything like it before and my virus checker caught it.
I seem to always get this ByteVerify!exploit trojan that my checker catches, funny thing I downloaded a trial McAfee and ran it and it did not pick up the 3 trojans in the Java file. It said my system was clean and virus/trojan free. Ran my free virus checker that I get from my DSL service and it caught the trojans again. So either McAfee's was outdated even tho I was downloaded their updated free trial version, or some scanners will catch and others will not. So now it seems we need to keep 2 different versions on our systems. Can't just trust one to do the job.
Regarding the trojan, according to the virus dictionary it is an old trojan file that dates 5-10 years ago. Saying that it will become active if I were to use a web site that used the same codes and then my system could be taken over. Could it be someone is using an old program thinking it will slip under the radar or someone is infected with this and is uploading stuff in the freebies section and are unaware that they're system is infected?
Or do you think their goal is to get free Poser content by slipping in and downloading our bought stuff from the Members page. I say this because it seems to be directed to the 3d community. Most likely the sites are known to have business transactions and therefore they install the virus to catch card numbers. I was infected back in November with this and just recently at the date this thread started. I sent RDNA an email about it and gave them all the information I had on the exact time the virus checker caught and all the info from the pop up windows. I haven't heard from them but I haven't checked their forums either to see if anyone has mentioned anything.
Keep your checker updated but during times like these when an outbreak crops up, might be a good idea to run a second checker program JUST to be on the safe side.
Thread: Texture [silly] question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeah, I thought I might need it and normally I have used it, but recently I've added a few new merchant resources and they're unzipping into the Runtime folder and not a simple folder with the resources inside it. Seems like a lot of work for us to have to run through the gaunlet to get to the MR you need lodged in the Poser/Runtime/Textures/MR name when making an easy folder filled with the JPGs needed would be so much easier. I just thought maybe I've missed something fancy being able to apply the texture via the Materials Room and saving it as a MAT file from there. I wonder why merchants are creating elaborate methods like that?
I'll recheck the Pose-Edit program because mine is outdated and even tho it can handle V4 it's really only for V3 models. When V4 came out there was talks of MAYBE an update for MPE would be coming out but then its been crickets ever since. But it's more likely from the result of the rock I've been living under for the past so many months :)
Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.
steph
edit: noticed it's still listing the date for production as 2004 so it's safe to assume that it hasn't been updated yet for V4. My version will handle V4 up to a certain point, seems it plays a little Russian roulette with freezing up on me every so often.

Khory--That's probably why we haven't seen that much in the way of items, but then look at what Aery-Soul can put out with all those morphs. I know enough about modeling that would fit in a egg cup, but wouldn't that stuff also take a lot of polycounts? I dunno when you see those images I've posted, there's probably just a dozen poly's in those skimpy things. I think AS came close to something in the images with one of their first releases that is sold at DAZ. But then again, some of the things I've seen by the likes of Calum5 who is making all those elaborate designs in Zbrush. But I don't know his system resources.
Drifter--I've got all those great items :) What's got me on this is, is Xurge's stuff, he produced some nice arm bands and bracelets for 1 or 2 of his packages. Right after he started his own web site and pulled out of RDNA, I sent him a message asking if he'd make a package for sale on new items like that, like a "jewelry" package. Didn't get an answer and I didn't see anything like those arm bands being released in other clothing packages either so I gave up.
I've noticed that Rhiannon has released something like that in her newest package Tanya and I've got that too. I suppose I could attempt to do some fancy postwork on those items and make them appear differently. It's just a simple set of items that I'm surprised that there isn't a collection of. Or maybe they're hidden away in some clothing packs that I've missed. A staple for fantasy renders I thought.

Well I think back then, the wigs they wore was to cover up the fact that they had to shave their heads due to lice as well as it was very fashionable to wear those wigs and we all know how far people go to be in the updated fashion. Possibly too as their hair fell out due to the lead poisoning in makeup, men wore that white "foundation" as much as the women. As well as poisioning from the pewter containers used to eat with and drink out of.
Along with what Pakled mentioned, back then you risked your life if you painted someone as they really looked. The only people who got their portraits done were wealthy, if you messed up and gave the daughter the hooked nose she has in real life, you were out of a job or worse, if the daughter was royalty you might have been sent to a dungeon and never heard from again. I think it was Anne Cleeves one of Henry VIII's wives, she apparently did **NOT **look like her portrait when she and Henry met. So maybe her father pushed the artist to paint a picture of what he wanted since a royal wedding was at stake...I don't think I would have risked painting her as she looked if that was the case.

I've had it do that to me as well on P6, after I've selected CTRL-ALT-Delete and it opens up the window that shows me all my working files, and soon as I see Poser is Not Responding Poser will jump back alive before I select the End Task button. At least one good thing is, the item in question still loads, just 9 our of 10 times it's missing it's textures and sometimes that can be easily dealt with in the Materials room. But I've also had a few times when it completely chokes Poser and I've had many projects destroyed due to that. Would be nice if future Poser releases would auto save your project every so many minutes in a temp working folder that empties out when you open another file that's not in that temp folder.
