If we had fan picked favorites awards, i think TrekkieGrrrl would win in a couple of categories.
Thread: Poser 6 is cool and all | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I actually considered that in advance, so I didn't uninstall, I just deleted everything but the runtime manually. But that would have been good, otherwise, LD. BTW. How come I haven't heard people enthusing about the simple version of the material room? it's like what we all wanted Poser 4.5 to have.
Thread: Poser 6 is cool and all | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oops, forgot to check my mail for a while. When I click Poser 4 to start, the background window for P4 pops up really briefly, then immediately closes. I've got Poser 4 and poser 6 installed to different drives; I had poser 5 installed on yet another drive, but deleted it as soon as i saw that P6 was going to work, and that the interface looked a little bit better than p5, since I have alway HATED the poser 5 interface; i'm not ecstatic with P6's interface, but it is worlds better than P5, and I didn't see any reason to keep them both alive, I just deleted everything but the runtime. The Poser 4 install was not corrupt the day before i installed P6, which was the last time I used it; I like the interface on P4 for doing poses and animation layout. I can access my P4 runtime with no problem from within P6, but I really don't want to lose my P4; if nothing else I need it for compatability testing for merchant and freebie releases. It's probably got something to do with the way I had P4 set up; my OS crashed a couple of years ago, and i restored Poser from a backup. I'll just have to wait until my next trip to my out-of-state storage unit and hope the rats haven't eaten my metacreations box so I can do a re-install. But I was REALLY hoping this was a common glitch.
Thread: Why do you render without shadows?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Shadows: I use too many shadows, or so i'm told, so you can't get me on THAT one. but I guess it really depends on what the person is trying to show? maybe they are mainly trying to show off the the contrast of a skin texture with a clothing texture, for instance, and a shadow would detract from that. not everyone is trying to create the same picture in the same way, which is a Good Thing. As to standing on toes... yup, most of mine do that; it's probably because I do Model Photography a bit also, and a womans calves, rear & posture look better (to me at least) when she is on her toes, at least partially.
Thread: OK I asked this before, obviously I did not get it! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I just looked through your previous posts CrimsonMoon to see if I could see exactly what you were asking "that was asked before", but quickly and rapidly got totally and completely confused by your penchant for asking one question, then when someone asks for clarification or supplies an answer and asks if that is what you meant, your asking 5 MORE questions. So, i'm gonna try and pin you down a little here. "there are just too many things that have no mats, or other obvious components needed" -Do you mean things that come incomplete by design, like a "lite" version, or are apparently broken? "So why do I have so many dead ends?" -I don't know, because i have no idea what you mean by Dead Ends; could you describe it in a different way, please? "and why is it all over named different names and such?" -are you refering to the merchants using the # and ! symbols Gongyla refered to? or something else? I put the stuff I make in pose:MediaPhiles or prop:Mediaphiles, for instance, because I assume that by the time someone has bought or downloaded something of mine, they must have already gotten a BUNCH of stuff; if they saw something of mine they liked, how else are they going to find it unless I name it distinctively? "is it JUST ME? Or is this something everyone deals with?" -I have 4 runtimes; i have poser 5+ specific stuff in one, architectural stuff in another, V3/M3/S3 in another, V1/V2/S1/Milkids in another, and lastly a catch-all runtime for stuff i'm not sure what category it goes in. however, i'm not sure if this is the sort of solution you are looking for, because i'm not sure from what you have written what exactly your problem is.

Thread: freebie prep | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmmmmmmm. bandolin was so close it is scary. and after looking at some lost in space stills, i'm sort of freaked out because it looks more like Lacey Chabert than who it is supposed to look like. the mesh isn't going anywhere... i'll see if I can maybe turn this into a V3 morph and texture, and go back to the drawing board on the whole New Head Mesh thing. (I've sort of found a sneaky way to apply morphs from one mesh to another similar mesh. But this might be something everybody else already knows about and it's just new to me).
Thread: freebie prep | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Its not the facegen mesh; I was already pretty sure they would burn me at the stake if I used theirs. the texture was started out with facegen, though, and the head mesh was created by looking at facegen output in 3d studio. But if its not recognizable, I probably won't bother finishing.

Thread: a couple of questions. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I hate to admit this, but.... I don't use the dots. I've been using poser since v2, and I just can't make myself use them even though I know it would make my life simpler. strange, huh?
Thread: Speaking of Lightwave stuff... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Polytrans does a good job of converting and shrinking poly counts; if you are talking about a something thats a lightwave freebie, point it out and I'll see what i can do.
Thread: Help to Buy re. Video Card | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
when it says "shared", it means that the main computer RAM and the video card memory is the same memory; I mentioned before that it is not good because it isn't; it will slow down your system overall. dedicated memory in relation to the video card is something that is pretty common in desktops, but relatively rare in notebooks; the under $1000 HP one I mentioned earlier had dedicated video memory.
The Video card is mainly for games; poser 4, poser 5, lightwave, 3dstudio could care less what type of video card you have.
OpenGL is a feature set that a video card can have that enables it to communicate with the system; some video cards are better able to handle it than others. matrox historically handles it best, but Nvidia is pretty good.
Poser 6 uses openGL for previewing your work, as you work; it gives you more of a "what you see is what you get" experience. you don't have to use it, and allegedly Poser 6 will then act just like Poser 5 at design time. it does not speed up your final render time.
Vue requires a good implementation of OpenGL; in my personal experience, Matrox G200 handled it great, Nvidia Geforce2 was just buggy but worked, Geforce4 works great, and ATI 9700 was flaky.
Essentially, except for in vue, your video card just doesn't matter. Some graphical applications are starting to play around with using the graphic processor in the video card, but none you mention that you are likely to use (correct me if i'm wrong, here, folks; I haven't been paying intense attention to the subject for the last 4 months).
The system you mentioned, momodot, would handle things adequately. the only weak point IMO is the shared system/video memory.
Thread: Help to Buy re. Video Card | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK, I'll try to avoid anything that starts flames.
please let us know what all this computer will need to do, aside from P6.
The shared memory thing is always bad, due to addressing issues; that machine will go up to 2gb of RAM, but it's going to cost ya.
This laptop (i think)uses the ATI Mobility Radeon X300, which i'm reading a few problem on the linux sites with it's openGL support in hardware; this could be a problem with poser 6.
If you do get it, try to swing the extra $$ for WinXP Pro; however, since this isn't a hyperthreading CPU, you could benefit from the added stability and efficiency of running Windows 2000 Pro instead, and not have to put up with DRM, activation, or other corporate sypware.
If I was going to suggest something in a sub $1000 laptop for Poser 6 to a relative stranger, it would probably be the HP Pavilion dv5029us; AMD 64-bit CPU at 1.8mhz, 1gb of ram upgradeable, dedicated 128mb ATI Radeon Xpress 200M video, 100gb drive, 15.4" widescreen.
If I was getting one myself, i would go with a AMD 64, and shop around until i found one with a Nvidia graphics card with dedicated memory; less problems overall with nvidia.
you can get a pretty decent notebook on E-bay these days for cheap, by the way; I got 2 in the last 6 months for my kids that do pretty good for about $300 each.
