It's been a while since I've played with BB's stocking shader, and I can see I'm going to have to re-read this thread to refresh what's left of my mind.
I'll have to admit I've been rather spoiled of late by Fabiana's Essentials Sheers, but I like BB's shaders for the simple fact you can make the hose any color your heart desires. I'm sure there's a way to fiddle with the colors with the Sheers as well, I just (still being a shader toddler) haven't stumbled onto it yet! :-D
I usually rely on my old pal Photoshop and various lace brushes, PNGs and scans of lace for my stocking tops and pantyhose seams.
So much amazing stuff to play with....

It appears that I have purchaesd the 'Sophie' package by Rhiannon in the past. I am still checking, but I don't think I've purchased either of the Burgandy packages.

Thread: Problems installing V4 Base on Win7 system | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, BB! That's exactly what I did - just created a fake poser.exe and stuck a copy in each runtime folder. No muss, no fuss!
Now, I'll be busy for the next couple of weeks installing all this stuff - for the last time! LOL!

Well, everything is going along smoothly - thanks for the help and suggestions, everyone! Now, all I've got to do is spend the next couple weeks installing stuff :-P
Trust me - I'm taking bagginsbill's advice. Everything's going in external runtimes, and getting backed up! :-D It's amazing how much content I've accumulated in a little over a year since I started with Poser!

Thanks for the information, everyone!
I also got a sitemail from Paradox1998 - like RHaseltine, he suggested just creating a daz folder in c:program files(x86)common files then creating a fake dzinstall.ini in the daz folder. Worked like a charm!
I'm trying to structure all the external runtimes in a somewhat logical manner... I like Bagginsbill's suggestion a lot. It's going to take a couple weeks to install all the content I've amassed in the last year as it is. Having all that backed up so I can just copy it over on a future new system, or on a re-install would save a lot of time! Most of my content on my laptop is already in external runtimes - just the base Daz stuff is installed in the Poser runtime.
I've created an external folder called 'DAZ People' for all the base Daz stuff - V4 installed into it beautifully. The ++morphs complained about needing to go into the same folder as the Poser executable, so I'm assuming I can stick a fake Poser.exe in that folder and all will be rosy.
Thanks again, everyone!

Thread: Semi-OT: Best processor for Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey, Trekkie, and everyone....
I've been saving my pennies, too, and am almost ready to:
1. Buy / build a completely new system to be used as a graphics workstation only - no Word, no games, no Family Tree Maker, no miscellaneous software. Just graphics.... Poser 8, Photoshop, Bryce, etc.
2. Rebuild this Q6600 system with a new HD, better video card, heftier PS, more RAM, and W-7 64 bit, and just buy a new system for all the miscellaneous junk. Then just use this one as a graphics workstation as per above.
3. Move to Tibet.
Since internet access in Tibet probably sucks, I'll most likely opt for 1 or 2. Bearing this in mind, I'd like to get a feel for what all you folks are using for your Poser systems - processors, video cards, etc. Looks like Trekkie got some good results with hers!
I may have asked something similar many months ago, but frankly, I can't remember for sure. Besides, I'm too bloody lazy to dig through 489,818,845 posts looking for it....
Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Thread: Great problem poser 8 svr pack 3 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmmmm....
Well, after fighting with it pretty much all day Saturday, it seems to be working again.
I thought I had automatic updates turned on with this computer, but apparently not. I did an update check, and found a bunch of updates, including an updated Nvidea driver. After all the updates, Poser seems to be working again.
I just did a 3360 X 2100 render of the bar scene pictured in my last entry - 3 figures, lots of lights, and various reflections and transparencies, and it completed normally.
Keeping my fingers crossed and being guardedly optimistic....

Here's the issue - see photo. Render will start, and appear to complete, but when it reaches the end of the render, everything just stops and locks up. This is the exact same problem I had with P8 on my main computer that was never able to be resolved by SM. They tried hard, but to no avail. I gave up on that one, and installed it on my laptop whre it has worked relatively reliably until installing SR3. Now, I have the same problem on the laptop.
I love what P8 is capable of, but I'm pretty discouraged with all the seemingly unresolvable issues I've had with it from day one.
You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

That pretty much describes me at the moment.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

BTW, this is a HP dv9000 laptop with an AMD Turion 64 dual-core processor, running Vista Home Premium 64B, 4 gigs of RAM.

Hi, trekkie,
Long time, no chit-chat! ;-D
Well, with these %$%%^ computers anything is possible, but all I know is Poser was working pretty smoothly on this laptop unti I installed SR3. Now, it's virtually useless.
I'm trying to do a restore point to 6-16-10 to see if that resolves the problem, and I've submitted a ticket to SM, but right now, I'm not counting on anything - except more crashes and lockups.
Right now, your tagline pretty much describes me. LOL!

"Is anyone else having problems with the new Poser 8 SR3?"
In my humble opinion, SR3 sucks.
Since installing SR3 on my laptop, Poser 8 is pretty much unuseable. It crashes constantly, will not complete a render, and is highly unstable.
Although I have had ongoing issues with Poser 8 (on 2 seperate computers) since purchasing it in August of 2009, It has been working pretty well on my laptop with only the occaisional crash. Now, since installing SR3 as I said, it's pretty much useless.
I'll report it to SM, but I'm not holding my breath on a fix. They have tried hard, and I think SM's support is one of the best I've worked with, but thus far nothing has worked 100%.
Right now, I'm pretty much discouraged with the whole Poser 8 experience. Maybe it's time to move to DAZ. I love what Poser is CAPABLE of. I just wish it was a LOT more reliable and stable.
Is Poser Pro 2010 any better??

Well, it's been a few days since I've been over in this part of the woods, but thanks to Bagginsbill and RobynsVeil, I did get everything sorted out with the stocking shader, polygons, mats and so on. I'm a little thick sometimes, but it was well worth the effort!http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2002332
Thanks BB for a sterling tut and for taking the time to share your knowledge with us 'greenhorns!'
Hmmmm - maybe I could use the rat fur on a primative and make her some furry stocking tops.... LOL!
