Notice that there are check boxes for smoothing in both the render settings and object palette. I make sure objects are saved with the proper smooth setting in the object palette, as P7 is fast enough for me to leave global smoothing turned on.

I had this happen once, but when I clicked redo the mesh was fine again. I took that as a sign to leave it alone...

Change to a wider angle lens. Your flat camera makes the markers all seem to close together...
Thread: Question: P7 & DoF rendering | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I didn't know how to explain what was happening, it was almost as if I was seeing the DOF crosshair from a different camera than the one which I was actually using. (I think that probably is the cause of the glitch) I've only played with it for one session though, but that was enough to tell that it had been quite improved output-wise.

Select the camera you want to render with. Find the focus distance parameter dial. Adjusting it causes crosshairs to appear in viewport. Centre of crosshair is approximate size of a typical figure's head. Adjusting the focus causes the centre to move to/from the viewplane. You should be able to visually judge where your focal point is as you calibrate. It works very well for me (except for one time it seemed to detach from its camera). Hope that helps...

Anyone find the "feature" that causes auto balance to slide your figure to the +X? Oughta report that one...

Then it's not just me! I love the look of DOF in renders, but couldn't get good results with Poser6 with or without the unbearable render times. The first pic I tried in P7 looked OK, thankfully it's also fast enough to experiment with different settings. I was using only 3 or 4 samples, btw...

Yes, Poser7 can disappear very quickly sometimes. It seems like it does this when it should be giving an error or asking for a choice from the user. I say this because it happened a few times at first but not so much lately. That tells me I must not be doing whatever it was that was causing it. I think this version of Poser is still the most usable initial release that I've bought. I don't think SR1 of version 5 was nearly as good.

I don't know how it compares, but it's fast enough that I've actually been using it. Never got very far with it before. Firefly renders with smoothing and DOF still seem faster than firefly renders without in version 6. Everything seems faster, but I'm also using a new system. I was quite shocked to see Firefly rendering faster than the P4 renderer, though!

Works pretty well so far. I turned down the undo cache to speed up the deletes. Noticed that the library thumbnail is black if I save my figure while the morph tool is open...
But the improvements make it so much better. The movie settings window still forgets when I check framerate (but it does recall the new frame rate number, just not that it is selected) but so many things work better now. I've had a few random closes and a couple of hangs. The hangs may have went away had I waited long enough (I found this out by accident) and the random closes were at times when I wouldn't lose anything. So far I haven't lost anything but time, and less than I would have with version 6. Morph tool is worth the price alone.

I wonder how long it took to convert the P6 manual into the P7 one? It's nice to get a printed manual, but I have't seen much in there yet I hadn't read in previous versions. But it's those pics that get me, prop-head-guy and no-joint-blend-guy especially. Personally, I think the manual should be one of those things that if you saw it and picked it up, and had never seen the program before, you'd want to try it. Poser's manuals never do that, whereas I always thought that TrueSpace's did. (I do like the reference card though)

I didn't expect to tweak the scene as it rendered, but I thought it'd be cool, while animating, to continue posing and editing while an animation was rendered. I know this was asked last time, but can we run Poser6 and 7 at the same time?

Hmmm... I've always minimised Poser while rendering and done other things like checking mail or surfing. So, I don't see how functionally this changes anything. I actually thought I'd be able to keep working while it was rendering.
