Is there a WIKI which can also be converted to PDF, so that a group could collaborate on it, then print it out later? Just wondering...

Got to say, I purchased the whole set, and was sorely disappointed. Skimmed over important stuff and got (IMO) other things wrong. I asked them about it, and received only a:
"Sorry you didn't like it" response. Another inquiry just never got answered. I guess it's OK for very basic newbie users, but for any type of advanced techniques, I'd suggest elsewhere.

Thread: creating photo realistic interiors! | Forum: Vue
Hi,
I've had some success rendering interiors:
I used GI without a ceiling. If you need to use Radiosity, then this page might help. Also, Jim Coe has some nice tutorials on rendering interiors as well.

You can't do it in Esprit. I've got both Esprit and Infinite, and it's available in Infinite but not Esprit.
Sorry.

Veritas, please post your Carrara images in the Carrara forum. I believe that's what it's there for? I hate to unsubscribe from threads, but you've successfully hijacked this one. Congrats.

![](http://www.altuit.com/webs/altuit2/vuelab/topmap1viedw.jpg)I've a tutorial I've finished for distribution on Cornucopia (hope to have it released there any day now), which discusses this exact issue. I've also included the mysterious rotation values for all rotation angles.
You can view a pre-release of it at the above link.

Veritas,
You have indeed been a frequent and helpful contributor to this forum. I am most appreciative of that fact. But I do have a problem with Vue spending their precious resouces on support for Piranesi, as it is VERY EXPENSIVE ($750 for only a renderer?) and mostly a niche market.
Besides, at least one of the pictures you display above is mostly just a hand-colored render of an effect you can get with the free SketchUp 3D version from Google. While I know Piranesi helps paint existing images with z-buffers, there is still significant skill required to know how/what/where to place your brush strokes, what color etc.. It doesn't only come automatically with Piransesi as you might think.
Thanks again for your helpful posts. -Chipp

Ryan,
Create a spotlight and set it to affect only the roof. Move it around until you get a bit of a sharp highlight of the roof. A metal roof looks 'metallic' when reflecting light. Remember a Copper material doesn't have white highlights, but rather orange ones.

Hi Anthony,
What is Objaction Mover and where do I get it? I assume it's some sort of decompression tool?
Is this workman a posable figure? Can one change the color/maps of the boilersuit? Can I use it for my renderings?
Thanks very much :-)

Thread: HDR images | Forum: Vue
Hi Javil,
Here's my understanding of what you're asking.
The original HDRI images were used to create a lighting model for 3D scenes. The idea being that every object in an environment reflects light and is thus a source of light for a scene. This creates very realistic renderings. The problem comes when you compare, say a white wall, with the sun. Typical 24 bit images cannot express this range of value, but it is necessary for the lighting model.
Thus HDRI images were created to accomodate this problem. The idea being you can now create a very very bright pixel value for the sun while still maintaining the subtle degrees of value found in a white wall. The image below uses an HDRI map to light the scene (you can even see the map in the reflections).
Then the photographers came and decided they too can benefit from using 'High Dynamic Range' to create some great photo effects. Typically when you photograph a sunset, all in the foreground is dark or black as in the image below.
But with multiple exposures of the same sunset, you can use Photoshop and HDR to create a composite to view flowers in color in the foreground-- as in the HDR image below.
All that said, even though there is a foundation in High Dynamic Range Images, there isn't much of a connection between the 3d HDRI and Photoshop's HDR.

If you have the texture for the outside in photo format, then just use it. Make it tileable (search GOOGLE for Photoshop and Tileable textures), and apply it Object Parametric and adjust the scale. BTW, the bump is too great on your procedural texture.
The lighting outdoors looks pretty good, but you've the plant in front is too big and there's too much saturation overall in the colors. Not sure what the wood grain is supposed to be.
Concrete walk is too bright and colorful. Think of concrete as gray with only a little blue reflected light affecting it. I like the viewpoint.
The interior shot needs you to setup the anti-aliasing better to get rid of the noise in the shadows. Search for Peggy Walters great PDF file on how to setup rendering settings. Or check out Eric Holbrook's fine page on render settings.

Dude, those links are full of popups!
Try posting them somewhere else, then click the Insert/Edit Image button above in the toolbar and paste in the URL of the image. If you can't see the image, then it's not available from the URL.
The url you've given are actually dynamic URL's (see the ? in the middle). The Insert/Edit Image feature only works with a static URL link.

Thread: Condo WIP (cc requested) | Forum: Vue
Hi Ryan,
Much better, the green balcony/awnings aren't so strong anymore, and there's much more contrast in the image.
Couple other points: Check out the New Orleans atmosphere. Erka uses it as a base and I really like it as well. The clouds there are better. You can even kill the clouds at this stage if you like.
The foreground still 'steals' the attention, esp the texture on the rock. If you don't like my foreground shadow idea, you might also check out using Pshop and Lens Blur with the z-buffer to blur the foreground (though I'm not a big fan of DOF for architectural renderings).
Below is an image I found online, which demonstrates the shadow foreground concept.
good luck!
