This begs the question: do people on this forum do any sort of color correction or even gamma correction for their monitors? For the Macintosh this is called ColorSync. On Windows many video cards provide a setting (usually in the Advanced tab of the Displays control panel) to at least set the gamma correction. On my monitor, the image above is not at all dark. I can clearly see the fire, the smoke tube extending up, the trees all the way down to the base of their trunks, etc. How many people color correct their monitor?

I use Cinema4D, and absolutely love it. I started with the GO version ($200), and eventually moved up to XL6. There was a magazine a few months ago which put a C4D GO demo on their CD, and you could upgrade to the full version for $50. Search the archives here at Renderosity to find it. You might be able to buy a back issue of that magazine.

Now that is cool. I'm really impressed by Cinema4D. I received XL6 last week, and I don't think I've surfaced for air since.
Thread: What's the best modeler? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I second the Cinema 4D XL recommendation, and XL6 in particular. Very fast, very stable. I've used Amorphium, and though it is a fun little app I wouldn't recommend it as one's only modeller. It is great for deforming existing models, and I use frequently it as a specialized tool for certain things. However I can't imagine trying to use it to create everything.
Thread: Poser Sold By Metacreations | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I believe MetaC has now found buyers for all of their programs. Well, except for Infini-D and Ray Dream, but they planned to discontinue those anyway.

Hmm, I've also Poserized characters from my role playing game. Its actually why I bought Poser in the first place. I wonder how many people here make models of their characters?

The green lips are somewhat distracting. You might try some morphs to make the lips extremely thin.

I agree about not concentrating solely on Bryce. I'd prefer to see Curious Labs come up with file formats and documentation for third parties to use, not produce just a Bryce plugin. I'm also an avid Cinema4D user, and that is one of the programs I'd like to see supported.
Thread: A Bryce/Poser petition | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, I'd prefer not to tie Poser so closely to Bryce. I'd be more interested to see a better file format for the texturing than the OBJ + mtllib, and documentation for it such that import plugins can be written for lots of other programs in addition to Bryce. Bryce was the obvious candidate for tighter integration when the same company owned both products. Now that this is no longer the case, I think it would be better to document things for third parties, not focus exclusively on Bryce.

Interesting. The page I proofed this image with has a white background. This page on renderosity has a black background. I'm sitting here looking at the identical image in the two windows, and I could swear that this one looks brighter than the other one. The black background plays tricks on the eyes.

More information from MetaC's press release: Corel did not buy Poser. It says MetaC will announce the acquisition of Poser later this week. It also says that Adobe bought not only Canoma, but Carrara as well. This is strange as I saw no mention of Carrara last week in the Adobe announcement. Perhaps I missed it.

First, instead of smashing the screen try holding a mirror up to it, maybe it will get the hint. Second, I believe the prop has to have UV coordinates for reflection maps to work. I must confess ignorance: does the 3DS file format always have a UV mapping? If not, you may need to add one. Exporting the prop as an OBJ file and using UVmapper is one way to do this.
