Thread: Focus and blur HELP!!! :) | Forum: Vue
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...ok. So I am setting it up right then, with the box and all. I just had no clue the picture had to be rendered in ultra for the setting to work properly. I was trying to get the proper effect in preview mode . Thanks Guitta...I'll give it a try right now.

I also have been asked if, after the 'crash' I want to have my color maps recovered from a failed render. I say yes but I am not sure what it does. A funny thing to note, that I forgot yesterday...after the 'crash' , when I re-open my scene, the atmosphere has changed itself. It has turned the decay amount and rate (under atmosphere settings/light/auto decay sunlight) to higher values then I had it set to. I turn the values back down, save the scene then run a render. Sure enough, after the crash, those settings are back up, next time I load the scene. Weird, huh? I never got a chance to try a new render last night, but I will do so tonight. If everything you all have mentioned to me, still fails, I will head your advice Bloodsong, and I will write to e-on. Thanks... Eryk

it did not actually crash and burn..just sat there with no disk activity. It sat at one percentage number for over 20 minutes, without advancing. The image had 1 sun and 3 point lights. 2 cloud layers, some minimal fog, water, 2 terrains and 1 tree, a few grass clumps and a couple flowers, 4 planets and stars. As far as I know, no transparencies and only reflections for the water. I have 384 megs of ram on a p3 500 mhz machine. I have 2 gigs available as swap space for windows. Does this help? Thank you for your responce Agiel. Maybe I will try a render again tonight and leave it over night. The time it got to 100% then stopped, only took an hour and 43 minutes.

Hello, I used vue 3 and now use vue 4 and I must say, the render is much better. Check out some of my vue images here (search for Calseeor ). Those are all, unless otherwise noted, rendered at the 'final' setting...which is well below the best you can get, and yet they look awesome. Keep in mind, on some of them, I added a post-work blur. If I did, I will have listed that in my credits. Hope this helps. --Eryk

ok...I hate to sound dumb here ( I do that enough at work ) but... I e-mailed and got my update. I check the zip file and it is a bunch of files, but no installer. The file properties of the items ( such as vue4.exe gives a ptah of vue4.01beta ) Am I to assume that these items install seperatly, when unzipped, so that they do not overwrite the originals, just in case? Do I unzip them into the vue folder, allowing them to make the beta folder, then just run the program via the new beat exe? I just want to make sure I don't screw something up. THanks all, Eryk The Clueless
