The image above was done using radiosity and a single parallel light.
I just checked the file and it is downloading properly so if someone is having problems getting it please try again. You can check the MD5 checksum with the one listed on the downloads page.

lmckenzie: for HDRI simulation use a larger step than 5 degrees for the scan and use shadowless lights exept for the main source of illumination. That should keep render times low. FlyerX

Render took about 8 minutes without radiosity and about 50 min with radiosity. That is on a 6 year old Pentium II 400 Mhz The difference between the two images was very little with most of it around the legs close to the ground. You can usually get nice results without radiosity with a shadowless light from below at 30% intensity. ynsaen: You can set POV-Ray lights and camera in PoseRay also. FlyerX
Thread: FlyerX's shoe pack from freestuff? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I do not offer them anymore because of bandwith issues. A few people have them available on their sites and if you do a google search for flyerx shoe pack you should find it easily. I just checked it. FlyerX
Thread: PoseRay... New features | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The subdivision is done in PoseRay. POV-Ray does not have subdivision. PoseRay subdivides the model before sending it to POV-Ray for rendering.
The subdivision will keep sharp edges (from normals) and can keep existing mesh edges unmodified while changing the rest of the mesh. Also it can be applied to a particular group or material without gaps between the subdivided and not subdivided surfaces. These will be all user selectable options.
The algorithm implemented in PoseRay is the modified Loop's algorithm to account for edges and corners. The UV subdivision is also using the modified Loop algorithm and will keep the UV edges on the mesh.
From the renders I have seen here I beleive Poser 5 uses an interpolating smoothing routine. Meaning that the subdivided mesh goes through the original mesh points. Loop's method is approximating (like a bezier and its control points) Interpolating routines, if it does not check edges, will give meshes an inflated appeareance.
Using Loop's (or any other approximating method) as the number of subdivisions is increased the mesh will resemble a NURBS surface.

Have you tried to run without mem turbo? Sometimes those utilities create conflicts with the windows memory manager. FlyerX
Thread: Exporting Poser 5 hair, who's going to import it? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Attached Link: http://user.txcyber.com/~sgalls/
PoseRay can read line entities from OBJ files. I tried hair directly exported from Poser 5 but it only exports the guide hairs but with your script it may be able to get all the hairs. You can give it a try at http://user.txcyber.com/~sgalls/ And render the image in POV-Ray 3.5. Let me know if it works for you. Can 3dsmax read wavefront files? For $3000 it better be able to. If not there must be some plugin or similar to get obj files into it. I have noticed that the 3ds export from Poser is lacking in texture names and uv boundaries. I would not recommend it. FlyerX
Thread: It is all done with mirrors, in Poser 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Why not break the mesh at the edge of the mirror so that the normals do not bend? Have a mesh for the frame and one (single sided) for the mirror surface. That should fix the problem with the normals at the edges unless Poser 5 automatically joins all vertices. This is what I do in Rhino to prevent Poser from calculating the normals wrong at sharp edges. good luck, FlyerX
Thread: Help Needed from | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You are right. I forgot the rotation after importing the 3DS file into Rhino.
Also I forgot to mention to make sure that the figure joints, position and rotation are zeroed before you export the 3DS file from Poser.
Thread: Help Needed from | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This works for Poser 4.03 and Rhino 2.0:
Export the part as a 3ds from Poser
Import into Rhino
Morph as desired
Export as OBJ
Edit OBJ file in a text editor and remove all lines that do not start with v ..... including the top comments.
Add a few empty lines at the end of the OBJ file
Save it and load it as a morph target in Poser
Thread: Renaming materials in Poser | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
thanks for the info. That works. Unfortunately It seems that I cannot rename materials without creating new ones. I am using poly.SetMaterialName(newmatname) but this method creates a new material instead of renaming the material. I tried material.Name(newmatname) and that did not have any effect. Maybe if I use SetMaterialName() and copy the material properties to the new material but that is rather cumbersome way of doing it. FlyerX
