Quote - You can't write off Apollo -- he's too good of a figure. And V4 hasn't quite matched Apollo's posability yet.Ā
Ā
Not yet... and neither has Sydney. Lookign at allt he similarities in the mapping and rigging though if they study Apollo soime more they'll nail it next time around :)
Thread: V4 & the Ugly Tree | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I was litterally stupified to realize.....Ā Holy moley!Ā I could create any kind of face i really wanted.Ā The only exception the nose, though, even that now I'm toying with and realise..... I'd been missing out on a complete wealth of ability with Jessi.
The face room is a hidden gem in there really. Between the face room, the new shaping tools and dynamic cloth there is really no reason to have to buy endless sets of morphs any more.

Quote - She haves a very cool new features and a new way of mapping i have never seen before really.
It will be VERY familiar to anyone who has a copy of Apollo Max. In face Sydney and V4 both look like they borrow heavily from techniques Anton was using in Apollo years ago.
One of the reasons I currently prefer Sydney is because the faceroom frees me from having to wait for people to produce endless sets of slightly different mores that step all over each other.Ā Similarly I am pretty much gonna go to dynamic clothing and hair.
I am REALLY tired of the "buy a new morph, break my clothing" treadmill. The technology is there to get off but it wont happen if we keep buying stuff that doesn't use it.
Thread: Why I hate EF and Poser 7 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - So what you are saying is it's ok to hedge and say any EF content versus ONLY EF content
Thats not a hedge, thats English. Your lack of understanding doesn't change that. Your assumptions do not make itĀ "semantics". That sentance parses perfectly well and is perfectly clear.
Quote - Not to start a flame war or anything, but IMVHO, please place Vicky 4 and Sydney side by side, out of the box, no morphs and dare to compare.
Ā
I have. And I pick Sydney each time so far. V4 is an OK shape and a decent mesh, but Sydney is a much more expressive figure "out of the box". Additionally I much prefer her because she is actually a Poser figure, not a "semi poser compatible" figure.Ā The built in lip synch, the face room... these are Poser features. V4 supports neither of them and really never will. Daz has only just now decided to support Poser 6.
Quote - Please tell me how you change the shape of her face, make the lips thinner or thicker, make the eyes larger or smaller, make her nose into anything other than what comes standard?
The face room. Its a feature that is more thanĀ two years old.Ā Just because Daz isn't supporting it doesn't negate it's existence. No offense, but you mgiht want to take some time toĀ familiarize yourself with all the abilities of the tool. If you are going to ignore the P7 features that Daz isn't supporting then use Daz | Studio, save yourself some money.
Poser 7 has already paid for itself. The render system is much improved, the library interface is much more usable now and the stability is improved. I don't buy the package for the included figure. Then again if I was not using the rest of the features and only using what Daz decided to support then the value proposition would be different.

Ā
Both Sydney and V4 have painted on body hair :(
Thread: Poser 7: should I go ahead and update or keep using Poser 6 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Just waiting for mine to show up on the door step and I see there are pros and cons but is it worthwhile, to put it on my system when I get it, or keep using Poser 6?Ā Ā
Ā
Absolutely. The application has some great features and between the improvements to the library management, the threaded rendering support and multipel undo the thing has already paid for itself in saved time for me.
Thread: Release date for P7 SR1..? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I havent had any problem opening older scenes and since it turns out you were "importing" hopefull we can lay to rest the "Poser7 can't open old scenes" meme that is even now approaching mythical status.
I can see it now, 2 years from now someone is going to say "Yeah, when Poser7 was released it couldn't even open my old scenes without killignmy dog!". I'll just shake my head and not even bother.
Thread: Poor Poser 7 Renders | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Rendering to TIFF would take a lot longer
Ā
Using JPG as an intermediate format is a bad, bad idea. The quality loss seams like a waste to me. That aside, renderign to TIF shoudln;t take any longer than JPG. Output format doesnt come into play at the render stage.
Thread: Victoria 4 Phoneme Morphs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - D/S 1.4.16.0 is out - FREE - with D/S 1.5 - soon on the way - Free!
Ā
D|S is a cool tool - but it is nowhere near the toolt hat Poser 7 is. Thats not meant to be insulting to Daz, it's jsut reality right now. When you add in the huge expertise the e-frontier company brings to the table graphically (under the hood Shade kicks ass) and their greater financial strength it will be liek that for a long time.
It's simply economics. Daz doesn't have the resources to pour into a free tool supported by content that e-frontier has to pour into a commercial product. The differences are starting to show.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Daz finally commits to D|S and makes their producs D|S first with some limited Poser compatability. Thats the way I feel about them now since V4 doesn't bring full P7 support.
Thread: Poser 7, Vicky 4: does new content really matter? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - IF the newer versions fo DazStudio or Poser came with better/improved/super-duper rigging and enchanced features, but your older content is not going to really work in the new system what are you going to do?
Ā
I would abandon the old content in a heartbeat.
As my "poser fever" wore off over the years I came to realize that the technology has real problems, and that the thrill of looking at what some item (especially of clothing) MIGHT do and what it will do are different.
To a large extent the Poser "click art button" problem is a result of the technology problems. The fact is that the super cool outfit you bought last night (the you is generic) only looks good in certain poses, from certain angles and on certain figures. It is inherantly restrictive and unnatural. Dynamic hair and clothing helps a LOT but still few merchants and users take advantage of them.Ā
I have a nice clean Runtime setup now. I will keep all my A3 stuff because its so damn cute... but I have decided to not buy somehtign that is not dynamic unless I need it for a client render. Additionally I am goign to work with Sydney as much as possible because she better supports the technology of the primary tool I use - Poser.
Thread: Poser 7, Vicky 4: does new content really matter? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - The built in Lip Synching alone is enough to make me want to upgrade even though I just bought MIMIC.
Ā
This is a perfect example of the growing disconnect and why soon some of us will have to decide whether or not to continue supporting Daz figures. V4 might be that breaking point. E-Frontier is pushing the technology edgeĀ - the Face Room, built in Lip Sync and so on - and Daz kicks off V4 without even phenomes and still no face room compatability?
if Daz wants to jsut call these things what they are "Daz|Studio figures with some Poser compatability" then thats what they should do :)

Quote - Thanks dphoadley.Ā Ā
I still am a big fan of the original figs that come with Poser.Ā I often feel like I might be the only one who sees hope for the face roomĀ My avatar is a spitting image of me, created with Don in the Face Room.Ā I'm very happy with the results, and anyone who knows me has been amazed.
Ā
If Sydney gets the kind of support she may well get - then V4 will be in trouble as the top dog out there. As Daz strays further away from embracine the P7 features (they never did buy into P6 till far too late) Sydney just has a technical edge.
Thread: All or nothing attitude: V4 vs. V3 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
*"V4 is just tremendously easier to work with for me.Ā For people just getting started with Poser I'd recommend they just start with V4 and spare themselves some learning curve."
I've been in Poser a long time, and have a fairl amount invested in V3 - but she has been totally vaporized just tonight. I put in a shiny new P7 install and took a hard look at my runtime setup and started over.
V4
Miki
Daz Dragon
A3
G2 Males
Sydney G2 (P7 female) looks to be a real winner
That about covers it for me right now. All the old dead wood is gone. Honestly V3 never worked out for me anyway. Too hard to modify, too ugly, too expensive to try and fix. A3 was better, and Miki better than that for some things.

Quote - it's a sad commentary when posting images in the gallery is perceived a matter of courage.
We live in a society of human emotional veal. The sheer number of people who consider any level of interaction with the universe that isn't covered in hearts and flowers to be "traumatic" is simply horrifying to me. Personally I blame the prevailence of the therapy culture, but what do I know? :)
Given that level of protection so many seam to demand from common life problems why would it shock you that people will use a word like "courage" for braving the hideous danger of a negative comment from a total stranger? My god man, don't you know how much those can ... umm.... oh wait, I can't manage to care at all mostly. But other people seem to be scarred for life by them.
What do I know, I live in a world where many people whose blogs I read use the word "triggered" (as in trauma flash back) to describe the cover of theĀ Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Whats more, the honestly expect the entire rest of the world to be responsible for making sure they never see an image that bothers them.
It's amazing.
