Tuxedomask, this is a sticky thread written by Arcadia titledMaterial Room, Nodes & Shaders - Tutorials and Discussions (Bookmarks - Updated). It will solve all your prblems on this topic. It is the fourth sticky thread from the top on the poser forum. Believe you me, it will solve all your problems relatingt to the materal room.

I only discovered it about two weeks ago cos I am just starting out on this road. This wonderfull Arcadia did a great job with this thread. If you can not locate it , please let me know. Good luck 

U can try this if it would help. After loading your sound file and it falls in frame 1, you can go to the layers tab and re set the start and end frames there. You can then click the show graph display sign under the keyframea tab to display the graph of the .wav file.  Finally, you can drag the sound range bar at the bottom of the animation pallette to your required frame. As you do this, you should see the graph of the .wav file move from where it was to your new frame number.

Using windows: get the desired view you want and simply control+ Alt+ numpad 0. This will snap the active camera to the current window view

Try updating your video card driver or your video card is substandard so try changing it. Alternatively,  right click on the preview window and change from Open GL to sreed. Finally you can render your scenes using firefly renderer instead of preview renderer. The firefly renderer does not make use of the video card. Please let me know which of these alternatives that work for you in your case.

Thanks to you all. I've been able to do my first successful render with firefly by making use of Hioushi's suggestions. But one more question I will like to ask is; Is this the settings I will use in the material room for all firefly renders.
