Thread: The Sorcerer's Apprentice-help, how do you stop the **** Cloth Room working??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks vince.
Unchecking 'Start from zero pose' makes the thing work. Also needs great care that the cloth does not touch V3s arms when fitting.
I wasn't slagging Carib's work; the other clothing worked first time, with a beautiful flow and form when rendered.
Thread: Won't buy Wardrobe Wizard because the demo doesn't work-help please | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have got out of the loop by accident.
After several more bad-tempered attempts Poser crashed and wouldn't restart from the desktop shortcut. I restarted it from the .exe file on the P7 folder and it launched to the Factory State.
WW had vanished from the Window/Scripts dropdown, but if I click on one of the empty slots at the bottom of thedropdown it will let me start WW by browsing to the folder and clicking on the WW Menu.py file. Carefully reset to my Preferred state and it is still going (cross fingers).
AntoniaT's point ; I wondered about the clothing being the problem. Now it is working again I will follow this up with pieces from different sources. From everyone's comments it seems likely most will work and I will be off to PhilC's site to see about getting it.
Thank you all

Magic.
Opened the no-show breeches pp2 side by side with the primitive Box pp2, changed all the Box references to breeches and then looked for similar parts of the file that had different parameters -all in Offsets? Carefully altered the Box values-all 0 or -0? to the ones in the breeches pp2, noted the path to the Box obj and altered that to point at the breeches obj.
Then remembered to copy the breeches obj to that folder (I've forgotten to actually move the target file before, took an hour to realise I was a pillock) .
Finally saved the Box pp2 under the new name Breeches02, restarted Poser and with bated breath clicked on the tick.
There it was...well actually there was nothing in view to start with, when I pulled the window out, there 400 feet above the ground plane was the world's biggest pair of trousers, just like a novelty hot air balloon.
The normals were reversed so I went back to the 3D modeller and reversed them, then saved the breeches obj back to the right poser folder. A bit of scaling and resaving and I've got my breeches prop.
Now to try turning them into conforming clothing............

Went through again, clearing all similar names.
On checking the vertex and facet point, the ,obj file that emerges from the3D modeller has a v list and an f list, presumably why it is visible when first imported into Poser.
When I re export it from Poser as an .obj file to UVMapper it has no f list, which is what UVM reports.
When I save the visible breeches as a prop to the library, the .pp2 file also has no f list , which presumably is why it doesn't show when I try to bring it back into Poser.
Conclusion; when Poser has to work with this file it fails to copy the facet list. Why?

Got it all to work via the Grouping tool, don't ask how, I think I named everything differently the same four times then deleted it all three times. Confused? Yes I am, but it works, and I've got the .pp2, .png and the texture .jpegs all neatly in a Zip.
But to upload it, where shall I put it ? (before 10,000 of you reach for the keyboard, don't even think about it !!)
The Renderosity Upload page asks for a URL, but I don't have a webpage so to the best of my knowledge I don't have a URL.
Rapidshare seems to get nothing but complaints and insults, is there another and better place for uploads ?

Yes I've got UVMapper, got no problem with using it. Got Wings3d too, but don't use it as I don't really care for subdivision modelling, prefer building up polygons and primitives and welding them together.
I have made the textures on the UV template, have even got them to appear in the right place on the various parts of the house. 'Pele tower007 .pz3' looks very nice.
But when I export all the parts to put them together as a single prop and then import that back into Poser there is an indescribable mess of textures.
Only 3 of 15 parts appear to have textured correctly and only 2 material names appear in the dropdown list in the Materials room with image nodes to textures I have assigned to parts of the prop.
Why has Poser applied the textures correctly in the .pz3 file, but failed utterly when asked to apply the same textures to the same places in a .pp2 file?
What is the failure this time?

Among my many duties I've been an IT Coordinator since 1984, so I've heard the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth far too many times - got FIVE generations of backups for this!!
So, I've done your instructions in the GT for the roof, (only 2 polygons) and sure enough on the Material room menu I have Preview and now Roof Slates, click on that and go through the New Node>etc procedure, browse to a slate-ish texture and sure enough it appears on the roof. If I export and import it, it comes back with the same texture on it.
But then I did the same thing with another of the backups without bothering with the Grouping tool at all and got exactly the same result.
So why am I going through the Grouping procedure? Can I not just UVmap a simple object, cut and paste the texture till it fits the UV template and then apply it? Does UVMapping, by telling you where the polygons are, allow you to do the same as the GT? Is it only with complex structures like people that you need to use the GT? Someone please comfirm that I'm not missing something here.
Thank you all for your comments, it has certainly been an interesting day so far (I nearly died when I saw the Renderosity Home page this morning!!!)

Sorry, this is not working.
I have made all the 60+ building blocks into relevant parts (props?), exported-imported and deleted the old parts. So I now have a little castle with 17 properly named parts.
The Grouping Tool will not recognise these new parts.
It will not accept that I have joined the building shell and windows into one part called Tower and DELETED the shell and the windows. 'Tower' will not appear in the space at the top of the GT window, only the name 'Box6poly_1' , the shell, which no longers exists. Click on the little black triangle and all the other deleted names of the windows appear.
Try to get any other of the new parts into the GT and the list has names that I've never even seen- I'm looking at 'p7_2', nothing I've EVER done in Poser in the last two years has had that name.
What is going on??? How do I assign a material or anything else to my Tower??
If I finally get somewhere is it going to say at the end Oh you should have UVMapped everything at the start???
Can someone please explain?

Kalon, this is an absolute crease - you ought to write some tutorials like this.
Seriously, the subject is both fascinating and useful - can someone pull together the names, groupings, what will work with who, etc and post it as a sticky?
Thread: 'Ground' renders too flat- how do others get round this? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you everyone.
I will remember the cloth square tip, but I've got the ground plane to morph.
I cannot get the morph dots to appear, but TrekkieGrrrl says it will morph: TG's big toe knows more about this than I do, so......what am I doing wrong??......
.......previously I had the morph tool radius set to work on a couple of points at a time on Don's ear, trying this on the ground, like digging a hole with a cotton bud.
When I raised the radius to 0.5 and the magnitude to 2.0, the dots appeared and the grid showed the slight pushed and pulled deformation I wanted.
So easy really : if I used my brain to think with, I'd probably be dangerous.

yes, it was the external links that went, only a few minutes to add everything again.
Not serious, just strange.
The Tutorial and Help manuals have lost all their graphics in Acrobat reader, again strange but not fatal.
I've just re-installed and updated Spybot S & D - I wonder if it thinks Poser is malware !!! (lol)
