Quote - UAC is off, i however thought about doing the compatability mode thing, but would be a real PITA for every time (;
Yuh, I agree. Annoying as the message is, it would take less time to just click it away.
Ohhh, I just had a thought. Where do you have DS installed? It might not be a matter of the UAC, because I think I recall that once I took my installation out of the programs directory and put it in my root folder, that was when I stopped getting those messages.

I used to get that message a lot before I turned off the User Account Control in Vista. I never had a real problem, though, and simply clicked the "This program installed correctly" option. I suppose another option for you, if you don't turn off the UAC, would be to select to run the installer as administrator.

They do the same thing. But go ahead and use the tick box.
You should keep the icon for future initializing, though. Some products, such as Morphs++, will require you to initialize V4 again after you install them.
Thread: Addon software question | Forum: DAZ|Studio
By add-on software, do you mean products that you've bought for use in DAZ Studio, such as props or clothing? If so, that's generally referred to as content. I think that most folks would consider add-on software to be plugins.
When the two files are approximately the same size, you only need to install the DS file (DS = DAZ Studio). The other file, which usually has PS in the file name, is for Poser.
When the DS file is quite a bit smaller than the other one, then you need to install both. In this case it's usually a slightly older product created for Poser that has new mat files added for use in DS.
Hope this helps - and that you're having fun! :D
Thread: Can the metal shaders in products designed for Poser work in the DStudio progra | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I believe that it depends on whether these are procedural shaders created in Poser's Material Room or if they are jpg files. Often a product description will mention if they're procedural. You might also be able to find the information you're looking for in the readme; there's a link on each product page.
If they're procedural, they won't work at all in any version of DS. If they're jpg mats (also known as mat poses - very confusing terminology), you shouldn't have any problem, though you'll probably need to tweak them (specularity, reflection, etc.) in the Surfaces tab.
There is an alternative if they're procedural and you still want to use the base models. That is to use metallic DS shaders like the kind made by the Khory_D and si_Vincent or by mmalbert. I can highly recommend products made by these folks, and the support they provide is excellent. One thing to find out from the model vendor, though, is how many material zones there are and how detailed the model is. The more zones and detail, the better results you'll get with DS shaders.
If you want to experiment, there are quite a few nice free shaders available for DS at ShareCG.com. And mmalbert and the Khory_D/si_Vincent partnership both have free shaders and excellent instructions on their personal websites, Redeyecat.com and Calida3D.com, respectively.
Hope this helps!

Quote - Hi all I have ds3 advanced an was wondering what update do I need to download
DAZ Studio 3.0.1.142 PC
Daz Studio 3.0.1.142 PC no contentthanx for any advice
If you've previously installed any of the earlier versions of Studio, then you probably alrerady have the content. In case you don't know, content consists of various characters, clothing, and props that are used to build scenes.
So if you've never used Studio before, definitely download the version with content. You'll get lots of free goodies.

Hang in there. They're usually good about extending deadlines when something like this happens.

The store server is down. Just saw a post that they're working on it.
ETA: The forums are working, though, so try logging on there.

Thread: Conforming clothing in Daz from Poser question | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Sorry, but I'm really not experienced enough to answer all these questions. And I don't have Poser, so I can't say anything beyond what I've answered below. Perhaps someone more experienced will come by with more info for you.
Quote - but what i really need to know is why it doesnt show up as a default option from the get go.
Let's say you want a dress to fit to V4. You have to have her selected before you load the dress. What I don't know is whether you need to have saved the original dress mesh with smart propping - or how to do it if that's the case.
Wish I could have been more help. I probably should just not have answered at all. slaps self upside the head
Thread: Conforming clothing in Daz from Poser question | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Click on it in the Scene tab, then you'll find Fit To under Misc. in the Parameters tab. But, there's no Fit To option if you've parented the item to something else. HTH.

It might. Products like this often come with additional textures/features that aren't shown in the promos. Wouldn't hurt to ask him, in any event.
