To Litle Dragon, SWAMP & ockham: THANKS! for the wealth of great responses for my subject. You've each given me a lot to study & try out. Much of it is over my head right now, though. I'm not familiar with how to spawn a prop off the head...I'll have to try & learn. I have had no success in trying to learn modeling; have tried RayDream Studio. And, sadly, Python remains Greek to me. There are just certain Poser-things that I'm proficient at, so I was hoping to find some ways to proceed that my antique brain could comprehend. :) I know a lot can be accomplished with texturing, & P5 Materials can be great, though I've never been able to get "Displacement" to do anything well. The FireFly renderer is great for figures, but it distorts props, so I generally stick to the P4 renderer. Hearing that ZBrush can increase the poly res sounds really interesting; I want to find out more on that as well as the Python! I want to be able to create some excellent hair (like everyone else), but since I can't even model a scullcap, much less a hair mesh, I wondered if it were possible to select the "hair-area" polygons on the head, & then apply magnets to deform that area into a hair shape a create a new "Hair" parameter on the head. Then apply a hair texture just to that part of the head. Well, it sure seems like it should work, & I think I know how to do all that stuff...but to get good quality hair the mesh needs to be subdivided. (Then again, if it works, why has no-one else ever done it?)

Awright! Glad to hear you're good to go. I've been using Poser for some time. I have had to resign myself to the fact that it's a "Challenge", no matter what version you have. :) Still, I have no intention of stopping using it! ...Knuten

Hi, I'm glad if that was helpful, but actually the problem you're having doesn't sound related to the one I had. I simply could not get any of the SR3 files from the CL site to work. I downloaded them several times in order to ensure that the problem wasn't merely due to a faulty download, but they still wouldn't even unzip. ("Bad CRC" errors). I believe the files at CL are corrupted. I downloaded the same files both .zip & .exe for both SR3 & SR3-Figures from the Egisys site, & they worked just fine. I contacted Egisys about this, so hopefully they will straighten the matter out with the CL site. Re the problem you mentioned, let me slog through my grey matter to see if I can think of anything. Do you have Poser4 installed? If so, do you have Poser5 installed in a DIFFERENT Folder, I hope? Next, locate precisely where the file(s) "Poser.exe" is. Use "Search" or "Find" for all your hard drives. When the window displays all/any of the poser.exe's in your system you can ignore any that are 1kb shortcuts or links, but right-click any others, click Properties, & then click the Version Tab. You should have just one that is version 5.xxx. You may also have one that is version 4.xxx. But you can't have both in the same Folder. Well, hopefully some of that may be useful & gets you somewhere. Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

After applying SR3 the Version showing in your Help>About Poser screen should read "v5.0.2.281"
Thread: Poser5 Morph Putty tool - more info | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
hauksdottir, I don't think so, since I've tried clicking everything that's clickable, and still, no action. Also, the manual says to check the checkbox next to the morph target to include or exclude that morph from being affected by the tool. I don't see any "checkboxes", just those little dots. If you click one of those dots it turns into a little padlock. STILL, whether clicked or not, nothing happens. Surely someone out there has actually USED the Morph Putty tool, haven't they???

Thanks, Josh, for the input. Yeah, there's a lot that's frustrating about Fractint, esp. for a non-math-nerd like me. But after struggling with it, I used to be able to create some fantastic stuff. Just wanted to get into it again. Years ago, when I was Fractinting, I also tried every other fractal program I could find, but thought they all stunk. But you're right, I should try some of the new stuff, and thanks for the addresses to find them!

Ain't no such thing as an *.rsrc file. I'll bet you mean *.rsr of which there are 2 kinds: "big" ones go in RuntimeGeometries with their matching *.obj files; and the "little" ones are just thumbnail pictures that go with their matching files in Runtimelibraries... (The little thumbs you see when you open "Hair" or "Poses", etc. Poser5 uses *.png instead of .rsr files. ".jpg" files GENERALLY are found in Runtimetextures where Poser uses them for texturing, bump & transparency. Yeah, it's more complicated than all that, but hope this helps.
Thread: Ancient human figures anywhere? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks Bryde, That's the "Abominable Snowman" figure. I've got it somewhere, but can't find it at the moment. It's rather low-res, but still good for when you need a Bigfoot or Yeti in the distance. It's just not an accurate, actual figure of an early or pre-human species. You're probably right about the difficulty of public free access to this stuff, but all we can do is try. After all, these files are just gathering dust right now in some University (and were probably paid for with public taxes, to boot.)

Thanks Mateo & Patricia! Actually, I am hoping to find something earlier than Neanderthal, but as it is, there's nothing at all yet. ("Abominable Snowman" & "Ogre" aren't what we're looking for.) There's got to be some University out there somewhere with a stash of these meshes. Guess we have to just keep hunting. Morphs applied to Mike, Steph, Vic would be just fine, but they would need to be done by someone sharp in Anthropology & 3D modelling... that lets me out. :)

Emily, Oh, the charms of Poser weirdness. This precise thing hasn't happened to me, but I've found that other idiosyncracies can often be cured by just closing the program & then restarting the computer. Restarting seems to flush "confusion" out of whatever is confused. Good luck!
