Thread: Vue 7.4 and layers??? | Forum: Vue
Let's forget dynamic hair. E-on has replyd to me that they've fixed the crash, but Poser and Vue have different render engines. Because Poser has a scanline renderer, it can interpret dynamic hair. Vue has a different render engine. Therefore we cannot expect realistic results. OK, if that's the way it is,..... why did e-on say that they can import Poser dynamic hair?
Thread: Vue7.4 Beta and Poser | Forum: Vue
for info - heard from e-on that the dynamic hair problem only occurs on Vista 64bit, works ok on XP 64bit...
Thread: Vue7.4 Beta and Poser | Forum: Vue
dburdick - dynamic hair used to "sort of" work in Vue, but a couple of people have experienced instant crashes on 64 bit Vue 7.4 beta (windows) when trying to load dynamic hair. What version of Vue are you using?
Yes I know that the Poser shader Tree uses a lot of resources, but I like it. Sometimes I use it for skin, sometimes I use SkinVue, sometimes my own mix in Vue..... Depends on the scene.
Regarding the results? Well I'm never perfectly happy (If I were to look at a render that I was proud of back in the early days of Poser I'd most definitely shake my head /laugh/whatever) but I think the results in my gallery are not too bad. Which pic uses which shaders?????
Thread: Vue7.4 Beta and Poser | Forum: Vue
looks as though hardly anybody here is interested in Poser (apart from thefixer)
ciao
P.S...... or is it me? (I'd really like to know, but am not holding my breath)

ok. looks like an issue with 64-bit (maybe).... I've lodged a ticket.

P.S. How does it work on Apple?????? - (please answer, somebody!)

For what it's worth - I'm on Vista Business 64 (SP1)
Rob
P.S. Thanks, thefixer, for your confirmation...... how about it? do you want to lodge a ticket about dynamic hair?
Thread: Vue 7.4 and layers??? | Forum: Vue
Hi :-)
Vue7.4I Beta build 42554 here on PC. Same happens when the second layer is selected. At least, the first layer disappears from the view-windows. It's still there in the preview and when it's rendered. If I deselect the second layer, I see all objects, at least until I add objects in the second layer. I just loaded a tree in the second layer - it loaded outside the (unmoved) camera field... If I then toggle between the two layers, I only see the objects in the selected layer in the view windows. the preview shows everything. Was this the same in Vue6? Doesn't seem very friendly to setting up a scene - dunno - maybe lodge a ticket?
P.S. could you try to load dynamic hair in 7.4, please? I get crashes every time by loading, and up until now, nobody has answered my thread. Hmmmm..... am I the only one that would like to use Poser shaders????

Hallo Peggy, thanks for the info.
I'm not going to have access to my Vue PC for a while, so can't lokk for myself - is there any doku in the download that explains more about "Optimized workflow with Poser objects"? - does this mean, for example, that the use of Poser shaders (including bump and displacement) now works? (Smith Micro SDK issues resolved)?
or what does it mean? If you can shed some light on this I'd be grateful

Thread: Poser Dynamic Hair | Forum: Vue
There have always been issues with using dynamic hair in Vue, for as long as it has been supported.
It uses a LOT of resources. A good head of hair will at the very least slow a system drastically, it not crash it. My first attempts were on an Athlon XP with 786Mb memory (don't laugh - back then, the system was, well, relatively powerful). It was unusable for dynamic hair. The next PC was an X2 4400 with 4Gb memory, kind of worked, but very slow. The hair did not render well - not because of shaders, the hair strands themselves were very thick. A suggested workaround at the time was to give the hair a bit of transparency, which improved the situation but slowed the renders down even more (and the responses to moving the camera). It crashed sometimes. I am now using a Core7 with 6Gb memory, it still doesn't (imo) work as advertised. This is a great pity, because dynamic hair offers a great alternative to transmapped hair (assuming one is prepared to spend a bit of time on the styling, draping and shaders) - can be much more realistic, not only in stills, but also animations.
@dadt: The problem has been reported to e-on, and acknowledged. However, it would probably help if you report the problem as well, just so that they know there are more than 1 or 2 users that would appreciate a solution.

Thread: the perfect Vue computer | Forum: Vue
LOL.... interesting thread..... Rutra, like it!
P.S. FCLittle.... The best computer for Vue (at the moment) is a Corei7 with 3(or 6) Banks of memory - you don't need to go for an i965, an i920 is ok. Of course, cooling is paramount.
Regarding the interesting debate....... ok...... :-)
Thread: Ok I've waited is the upate worth it? | Forum: Vue
@vince3
Please read my posts above.
if you want to use an object in Vue, you need to load/import it.
e-on advertise that you can import a Poser scene using Poser Shaders. If you do so, then you will see the "running red man" in the material shaders. Of course you can change this, as you wish, and can then start using simple materials. However, this will not be very satisfactory for you. The default "simple materials" will give you a very mediocre result.
As stated above, either use Poser shaders with white diffuse colour (either standard, or modified by you), or SkinVue, or your own shaders.

@cobraeye "Yeah, good advice, but I remember when vue was hopping with users. Things have changed."
2. What do you suggest as an alternative program?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Thread: Vue poll | Forum: Vue
Hi,
This is an interesting point, and I think (my opinion, for what it's worth...) that several factors are invololved. Programs improve, the default ("make art") settings improve, there are more tutorials out there, the standard and expectations are different, etc. On the other hand, there were a lot of very talented artists who posted here previously, who we haven't seen for a looooooong time. Why did they stop posting? Well there are several possible reasons, they are not necessarily part of this thread.
I am also not totally convinced that the standard is increasing more than what the standard default settings allow.... this is not a problem, just "I'm not totally convinced" - on the other hand, it doesn't bother me at all. We have a lot more postings than even a couple of years ago - this is very good. On the other hand, should we compare the postings to the quality to the software advances? - dunno, don't care.
Happy Easter
Rob
