Yeah, not the same thing at all unfortunately. The problem discussed here comes down to a modeling problem, not a Poser/Application problem.
Some OBJ files that are referenced, usually when it's a freebie or a converted obj file, it carries with it dual faces to the poly, which when rendered, will give the checkerboard problem.
The update does not fix that, since it comes down to the person who modeled the figure/OBJ file.
Apart from turning on "Remove Backfacing Poly's" in the render window, the only other solution to this problem is to import the original OBJ file that is being referenced into a Poser friendly pro app (Shade is the best for this, since it retains all Poser relevant data when done), and re-export it back out without modifications, until you get to the window that has a checkbox that allows you to export as a SINGLE sided OBJ.
This will elliminate the checkerboard problem. It might make parts of the figure look transparent prior to rendering, but it will render fine.
You an then take it a step further if you find parts of the OBJ file appearing transparent in Poser, but locating the same areas in the high end modeling app, and manually reversing those flipped poly's.
Personally, I would contact the person that made the figure first and tell them to smarten up and fix it properly.
Thread: My last vent about poser animation and smith micro incompetence. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I agree Sean, on most points. But the individual you are talking about is one of how many that succeeded with such a limited repetoire? For every person that has a success story, such as this discussion on what can be done with Poser etc, there are thousands who are living a pipe dream.
But at the same time, he did go out and get an eduction. Someone with an education can make fantastic results out of nearly anything, if they put their mind to it. And that I applaud. I did a similar thing when it came to film, and my luck has held out so far. But they are few in that category.
The original poster here is crying because Smith-Micro don't supply training DVD's on how to do what he want's the program to do. Adobe does not supply a manual explaining how to accomplish everything you dream of with Photoshop. But he expects such a feat from SM. If he went out and got a true education, rather than depended on people spoon feeding him what he wants, he wouldn't be crying.

I didn't bother to read all the posts here - just the first one. And it was 5 minutes I'll never get back.
Poser is not intended to be a stand-along animation application. Its a Hobby tool. It's not a Professional tool. Yes, it gives some high end concepts, but overall, its for Hobbiests and beginners alike.
If you want to learn Animation, it's not entirely up to the company that makes the software to provide a complete overall training solution for your needs.
Thats called "College" or "University".
If you can't afford to pay to learn animation from the ground up, then you really cannot complain too much about the program you are using.
Thread: The V4.2 eyes. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I know exactly what he is reffering to and asked the same question of Daz Tech support, and never got a response. It's still sitting in my questions folder at Daz waiting for a reply.
When you load V4.2, and use the MAT files for her textures (IÂ have the high rez ones), all textxures load properly, they show up fine in the materials room. But prior to rendering, what you see for her eyes are her right eye is fine, looks normal, but the left eye only appears as white. When rendered, it comes out fine.
I think its more of a Poser problem than a V4 problem, as I can duplicate it everytime in Poser, but not in D|S

If you are rendering in Firefly, try turning on "Remove backfacing polygons". I learnt a lot about this recently when working on the release of the Armour Z/Iron Man figure for poser.

Hey Zikeo - I left you a message over at Animotions, but assuming you don't visit there too often. I am currently making this fantastic iron man replica into a conforming set of armor for Michael 3 for Poser. Send me an email, and I can send you a copy when its ready - Just making a few modifications since Poser likes to make some of your meshes appear disjointed and broken (They look fantastic when rendered though), but should be done by early next week. Then you can share it, or tell me to share it, your call.Thread: Problem with Home page | Forum: Community Center

Yeah I thought it might have been me as well, hence why I tried on two systems with separate DSL connections, to be certain someone doesn't come back here and just spout off that "Its your connection, Dude, works fine for me lol".

Thanks so much. Im glad its well appreciated - I work full time in the Training and Design side of Canada's largest communications company, for 10 years now, so I figured if I can spent months working on a new product to sell for them, why cant I spent an hour putting together a clear an easy tutorial? Thank you very much again - And thanks for the support Leather-Guy.

For anyone else following, Marianne hit the nail on the head (Huge kudos to a guardian angel in Marianne.) Not only does the software do exactly as she stated, its not like you have to do one at a time. It does a folder of files in one shot. Marianne...I send a huge hug your way. If ever there is anything I can do to help...just let me know.

AHHHHH!!!! I did not even notice the "Add New Runtime". I bought the downloable version from CL on Monday, and have spent a grand total of an hour playing with it so far. I will try your tip, and will check out the forum. Thanks for the assist.

As far as I know, you cant ungroup 3DS files in Poser. The only workaround I know of is to regroup the pieces you want to be seperate props, and turn them into individual pieces.
