Interesting. Well, if it makes it easier for users to set up lip syncing for 3rd party figures, I look forward to it.Couple of things for WD & TD in Poser 13:
1. Data elements of these features moved out into the shared Runtimes so they can be designed by creators as part of a project/product. See LF2 & upcoming LH2.
2. Poser 13.3 (currently in beta) replaces the current Lip Sync tech with Rhubarb Lip Sync. Minimum UI changes but opens new feature opportunities in future.

"Updated Walk Designer and Talk Designer for better compatibility with all figure types and support of imported libraries."
I am curious as to what's been updated in the talk designer for Poser 13. Is there somewhere I can get more information on that?

I am using Project Evolution, as it has quite a few options not just for the gens, but hands, face, toes as well. It's a joy to work with for both stills and animations. So, checking out the features on PE might be a good place to start.
Also, I have purchased quite a few Darkseal products and enjoy using them as well. So, I am curious to see what they come up with for LF2.

Thanks for trying it out, I appreciate it. Also yes, that's about the same result I get with my improvised talk designer file for GF2, sadly.
As for LaFemme, yes she ships with a talk designer file, which works no better or worse than it does on other poser figures from what I've seen. I've used it on morphed LF faces (i.e. not her default face shape) without issue. It's not a perfect system but it works as it does.

Thanks a bunch for the review and yes, I took a look at Anilip2, but at that price...
It's a pain in the butt, but what I've done in the past is use lipsync on an old 32bit copy of DS, save the file and then open it in 64 bit DS and start animating from there.
It sounds like your pipeline is a bit of a process too.
If I may ask, was Mimic pro 3 just for DS or was it for Poser as well? If so, did you ever try using Mimic Pro 3 in Poser on a GF2 or GM2 imported into poser?
I ask as I've tried my hand at making a talk designer file for GF2 (to use on GF2's imported into Poser), but I cannot get the mouth open-close or blinks to function properly, just phonemes.

I would agree with you Wolf that there hasn't been much development in Poser animation tools for a decade, but I am hard pressed to think of anyone who enjoys animating in DS (as opposed to say, using DS for character creation and then porting the figure elsewhere. That said, I am interested in exploring other options, and I would be interested to hear about your experience with the DS to iClone to Blender pipeline you're using. Pros, cons, costs, that sort of thing.
You mentioned "four options for audio based lipsynch". I wouldn't mind checking them out if you can name them for me. The only DS based one I've used so far only worked with the 32bit version of DS. The Facemojo system you mentioned looks really neat though, and I look forward to seeing more of it in action.

Thank you for that detailed analysis, I am grateful for it. I am glad that it's not just me but also a little pissed that no one has addressed this or at least put the word out to stick to two layers if possible. Animation is one of the few areas where Poser actually still beats out DazStudio (animating in Daz Studio is as much fun as eating sandpaper) and here the devs managed to mess it up and didn't care enough to fix it.

I am hopeful that with this development new life can be breathed into Poser. As Ero said it's a program with a lot of potential, and I would like to see it flourish.
To that end, I would encourage those with the skillsets to make something of this to bury the hatchet, and make poser the best it can be.

So, I have 24 gb of physical ram. I am no where near running out of memory running poser, so no need for virtual memory, so no disk thrashing, presumably?

7 seconds is a very long time for a cpu to be doing nothing, could you be running out of memory and the delay is caused by disk thrashing?

Hmm, I will check that angle out when I have a chance, thanks!

Hmm, well that gives me some food for thought at least. At the moment I have a dressed and morphed-up GF2 animating and I stopped it to check out if I had SubD preview turned on for anything. Lo and behold one of the shoes had SubD preview jacked up to 2 for some reason. Turned that down to zero and the result was that changing the selected bodypart no longer took 3 seconds. Changing a morph value however took around 7 seconds to finish.
Also, I am still at a loss to explain why this happens on non dressed figures, and why I don't have this problem at all in Poser Pro 2012. It must be something Poser Pro 11 specific I Guess?

I had another look at the performance calcs I did previously
Screen refresh and multithreading - looks like OpenGL is single threaded. What I was seeing before was the effect of turning on "Parallel Compute" mode. This distributes some work between CPUs but appears only one cpu can gain access to OpenGL renderer at a time (I'm basing this on looking at the performance charts and a bit of Googling, someone who actual codes with OpenGL may know differently). It could be "Parallel Compute" mode is most effective when there are complex calculations per actor to be done. The python command "poser.EnableParallelComputeActors(1)" enables this feature.
Re calculated the morph timings and got variable results, some were quicker with morphs and others not. It may be the morphs only have an impact when used but puzzled by this since applying morph transforms against the mesh should take longer.
Had a look at enabling just the selected part, did not appear to improve perceived lag when working with complex figure. Bit puzzled by this too,
My calcs (based on 500 redraws of stationary figure) V4 (no morphs) - 30 fps, V4 with Morphs++ (30 - 22 fps), G6 with sub div off = 37 fps, G6 sub-div @ 0 = 18 fps, G6 sub-div @ 1 = 8 fps

I hear you, and I certainly got that when trying to work with GF3 in Poser. That said, this is not happening to me in Poser 2012, and it happens (albeit to a slightly lesser degree) with Erogenesis' Project evolution, which is a poser figure, not DS. So... something else is going on?

Anything doing with Genesis unless you converted to a Poser Native figure will be slow because it is running on DSON which is emulating what Studio does. A simple version is you change a dial Poser records that and sends it to DSON which does what ever it needs to do and then sends commands back to Poser after it is done. Consider that Poser 9 did not have sub-division and yet you can use DSON to Sub-D a Genesis figure in that version because DSON creates a proxy and that is always going to take longer then working directly with a mesh.

The Genesis 8 figures don't have the IK chains when transferred over so you'd need to add them manually to the CR2 -
sadly even when you manually add the IK you still get noodle forearms when dragging the hands, or the whole arm distorts from the shoulder when Ik is on and the legs pretty much ignore the Ik due to the double hip, pelvis setup.
So for me I won't use IK in Poser with Genesis 3 or 8, Hope that helps
I know that pain all too well in my attempts with GF3 in poser. For me though, from an animation point of view IK is vital. If you want to use constraints at all, you're going to need IK.

I'm happy to report that Genesis 8 works fine in Poser 11.
Looks great! If I may ask, are you able to get some decent Inverse Kinetics working on her limbs? I recall GF3 being difficult on that front.
