Thread: The Real Reason Carrara users Have trouble with Daz | Forum: Carrara
Perhaps a stupid question but, is it so difficult to make a Poser version ?
The work involved for building and a set of materials, yes. Keep in mind you're doing the work twice, and maybe getting less than 1/5 the return.
It really shouldn't be a big deal to at LEAST fix the OBJs so they load up in the right place WITH the textures loaded on. If making a proper Poser version is so hard, this shouldn't be a big inconvenience.
Having untextured OBJs at the origin position is a requirement from DAZ Quality Assurance (probably because it can create problems down the line and for additional functionality). I don't think big stores (like Stonemason) base their decisions on a number of forum posts. They have access to a lot of sales data and I'm guessing that is where they see the problem.
And again, DAZ leaves it up to PAs whether or not they want to support additional programs (though Poser used to be a requirement, it isn't anymore I think). Everybody makes up their own mind about that.
PS: Are they OBJs still that way when you export them out of DS?

Quote - > Quote - The point is that the part of creating 3D models is in the EULA and they told it to you when you inquired about it, so you can't say that they "represses truthful info about their product".
Yes, it is mentioned in the EULA that 3d models cannot be produced from their 3d content.
It is not mentioned in the EULA that 3d models can not be manufactured from heightmaps (renders). Richard (Daz formum) indicated that certian things are not logically inferrable from the EULA. Well, if you can't logically infer it, and it does not say it to begin with, what is a user to do?
Truthful information regarding licensing info would be made up front, in the license, not on the forum, as in "Oh, by the way, you can't do that". If its not covered in their terms, they have to update their terms and make that public info.
They can't have one set of terms they share with the public, and then another set of terms they don't "show" and then use it later to claim a violation.
It is in the EULA, like I quoted before. The heightmaps contain the data to extract the content which is cleary stated as being not allowed (even for "renders"). Anyways we can go on about this forever, so I'll take my leave.
Cheers, Elele.

Quote - "Substantially similar" could cover just about anything. If you make a movie and sell it with Daz content, Daz could argue that once you make enough profit, "Substantially Similar" means something very different.
Could be, I'm not going into the tinfoil hat part of this discussion. The point is that the part of creating 3D models is in the EULA and they told it to you when you inquired about it, so you can't say that they "represses truthful info about their product".

From the EULA (I left out points 1 & 2, since they are not relevant here):
"Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, User may (i)... ...(iii) publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense User’s two-dimensional animations, renderings and other works; provided that User may not in any case publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense any renderings, animations, software applications, data or any other product from which any Content, or any part thereof, or any substantially similar version of the Content can be separately exported, extracted or de-compiled into any re-distributable form or format. All other rights with respect to the Content and its use are reserved by DAZ and its licensors."
So apparently even the height maps are illegal to distribute, since there are restrictions that apply to 2D renders as well.

Quote - > Quote - Isn't CNC machining just 3d printing (as in creating a 3d model)? That might be why it isn't allowed (and that is covered in the EULA).
The issue is that Daz says renders can be used commercially. A heightmap is a render. It is possible to reinterpret 3d information from a heightmap; however, it is not the same as the original 3d geometry. No conflict or infringement there.
Therefore, Daz is claiming that their allowing commercial use of renders does not cover heightmaps. It does not say this in EULA.
I don't know the technology or what a height map is, but if a height map is a 2D image then it can be used commercially. However, neither you or the person who buys them can use them to create a 3D model. It is creating a 3D model that isn't allowed, no matter how it was created. Otherwise every one could just say "I didn't use the original 3D geometry, the computer translated it to electrical signals and my printer used these electric signals and not the original 3D geometry to create the 3D model"
PS: I don't know about legal stuff, so don't take my word for it.

Thread: Dear Dartanbeck | Forum: Carrara
Quote - The issue is not with textures, that is understandable. I think that is pretty clear in the EULA.
What I want to do involved using heightmaps obtained from rendering posed figures to create reliefs (essentially sculpture viewed from one side only) for CNC machining. There are no 2d textures involved. Any surface patterning would have to created in the geometry.
The geometry from the original figures is not used, or transferred, to make the relief. So the 2d render only is used and the result, while superficially similar, is not at all the same. The is true for ads, illustration, animation, or whatever anyone else is doing commercially with their renders. They are not reselling the product, they have used it in a different form.
So I asked Daz to correct their EULA to reflect this new information that they gave me about heightmaps used to produce 3d models violating their EULA. They refused to acknowledge there is a problem with it.
So if they are not serious about correcting problems, then they must want the EULA to be non specific. Companies try to do this all the time, particularly in the area of patents, where they try to get the broadest interpretation patented. However, proprietary work requires specifics, and if they can't specify it, they can't own it or claim rights to it.
Therefore, their EULA is flawed. They certainly can't make up new conditions afterward. If they want to correct the EULA to state these limitation as they come up, thats fine, make it clear to users. But don't go charging anyone with violating the terms if the terms are not there to begin with.
Isn't CNC machining just 3d printing (as in creating a 3d model)? That might be why it isn't allowed (and that is covered in the EULA).

Thread: morphing clothes | Forum: DAZ|Studio
i followed this quick guide:
On the left I have my values set as follows:
7
3
1
0.05
0.07
I have all boxes checked excpet the Skirt check box (unless I am doing a skirt then its unchecked) and Hide Controlled Morphs is not checked either
For output I always choose a New Copy of the clothing option. MC should have created a folder called "!Converted" under the Character folder and so from the Transfer Tab I choose the Path button and point it to the !Converted Folder then I copy the original file name from the Clothing Tab at the top and paste is on the output line and then alter the name to reflect its different.
Transfer!
To access the new version of the clothes, goto the !Converted folder under Characer and load the new clothes.

Thank you for your reply, I tried it, but unfortunately the result is the same: the morphs are injected into the swimsuit (and they work) but the swimsuit doesnt take the shape of a character that has the same morphs at different values, it just keeps the shape of the standard V4 model (unless i adjust every morph of the swimsuit to the correct value)...

Thread: Mirrored Sunglasses Shader? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Those shaders seem great stuff! I'm still new to 3d and only just started with looking into the shader concept. From what I hear they are very dependant on the program used. Unfortunately I dont have the software yet to make them (or i havent figured it out). I'm thinking about upgrading (mostly because of the shader issue) to either studio advanced or carrara8. But if i understand correctly i still wont be able to make poser shaders. But thanks to bagginsbill the poser crowd can rest easy.
Thanks bagginsbill! :)

Thread: Mirrored Sunglasses Shader? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello, first post on renderosity :)
"Also, how do you make the material darker at the top and shade to lighter at the bottom?"
If you mean like the "faded" preview on the daz forum: I used an opacity map. Its included in the sunglasses zip. Its called "El Sunglas FADED O1.png". I use the free daz studio, there you can load it in the surface tab under "opacity". I dont know if poser has an option like that though...
The letters at the end of the pictures in the zip file stand for:
C: color map
B: bump map
O: opacity map
R: reflection map
Great pictures! its nice to see people like the glasses!
Thanks,
Ele.
