Thread: C5 Pro vs. Poser 7 Performance | Forum: Carrara
I have both Poser 7 and Carrara 5 pro but I have not been able to move Poser 7 files via the transporter into it. Do I understand from this discussion that you have been able to do that without the Poser 6 work around?
Thread: V4 Pricing? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeah now it's free to PC members. I think V4 is just a gimick to get more PC members which is where they make the real money with a captive audience.

Yes, there is no way to get any reasonable content out of ver 5.0. So it will sit on my PC as an interesting program with little or no use. I have Carrara 5 Pro which I got to replace Vue 5 for just this reason. It will import a great many formats and export them as well. This includes all the poser formats. It's really too bad about Bryce as there is a lot of great content for it. I'll give Bryce another try if Daz decides to allow exports of .obj's or .dfx files.

Thanks **electronicpakrat.
I did download it and activate it on an older xp machine. Then I burned the it to a CD and installed that on my regular PC. It works, but it has some rather strange behavior. First it seems to freeze windows in that the start menu and the task bar cannot be accessed when it's running. I can use the task manager to get at these things but I've never had to resort to that much.  Also I've not found a way to exit either short of forcing a shutdown. I think maybe too much time has gone by since I used Bryce 3D and switched to Vue. I still want to use it to maybe export some Bryce objects to Carrara which is my main graphics program.

Can anyone tell me if the free version or the non-free 5.5 can be installed without online activation? I have my graphics programs on a XP PC that is not connected to the internet? I don't want to connect it for security reasons. I mostly use Carrara 5 Pro but Bryce would be nice to have also. Thanks,
Glenn
Thread: Carrara and Linux | Forum: Carrara
Thanks everyone for your interesting comments. I have worked some this week on getting Poser 6 and Daz Studio to work under linux without success. And I am still working on it, although lately I haven't had as much time to play with it. I think that linux may be a great cost saver in render farms, they won't have to purcase all those copies of Windows. But since I don't have network I can't test this fully. It will also be cheaper for those who build their own computers to put linux on them and use Carrara with Crossover. The Gimp (a free Linux application) should handle most of their post work needs. I don't have the Adobe software to test but I understand that some of the older Photoshop versions work under Crossover and many people are working on the new versions to work.

Right now I am using the RC2 test version of Mepis. See Mepis.com I will move to the regular version as it is scheduled to be released this month. The render time for the Complex Green scene is 45 seconds which is the same for windows. The PC's are MSI mother boards with AMD 64 chips at 3000. One G RAM. I don't know what render nodes are? If you have a complex scene to suggest for a bench mark I'll render it.

Also, if your running windows, you may not be used to seeing extensions because they are turned off by default. If you want to see them and they are most useful, then start the windows file manager go to tools then folder options then the view tab and take out the button that says to hide known file types. I think everone should do this because it's dangerous to open an email attachment containing executible code and how else would you know?
Thread: Can vob files be converted for use in other programs | Forum: Vue
Thanks everyone. I didn't think of Vue4Pro. I have that and will use it. I primarly want some of my old work and the landscapes to transfer to Carrara 5 Pro. I am not too good with the terranes in carrara yet. Seems kind of strange to go backward tho. Carrara is a better product for my needs and handles imports and exports very well including all poser files even props and cr2 files. I won't upgrade Vue.
Thread: my boxed version arrived | Forum: Carrara
Mine arrived wednesday. Lot of memory allocation errors and render lockups. But got the update this morning and it solved all that. My advice download the 02 update and install it right after you get the boxed version installed. glenn

Thread: disk crashed reinstalled vue 5, how do i get Deepaccess back | Forum: Vue
Thamks Aqiel, The issue has been resolved I got my modules back and I did burn to CD this time. For those of you who may have this problem now or in the future be advised, the French do some things just a bit differently. To contact a technical person at e-on you need to follow the menu items that do this and that leads to a forum like setting. That sort of put me off as I did not want my account stuff to be part of a forum like this one. Well it dosen't work quite that way as some of the forum is just between the tecie and your self. You need your order # and you can get that from e-on in your accounts section by clicking on the regestred software itself. They were very kind and gave me the links to re-download. Glenn

I guess I didn't write that very well. Yes, I have the serial numbers and I can access them in my account but how do I get the code or software it self? Glenn
Thread: OT: Need advice on security program | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
For just a little different slant on the above replies. I used Counterspy, AVG, Acronis security, Spybot, Zonealarm, and Adaware. Then I realized I was spending 1 to 2 hours perday with scans and updates to protect my Graphics. So I got a new PC and installed Mepis Linux that I found in a book titled Point and Click Linux. Its a live Cd and will boot to Linux with out an install so you can test it on any PC. I now use a CD-RW to move any downloads. Most of the badies don't bother Linux and it has a built-in firewall with all ports closed by default. Oh and this version is very windows like,,, I was up and running in an hour.
