I think the ^ operator is not reconize by the parser, you should try with a multiplication instead.

The Full Raytracing is also required when the camera is inside the bounding box of an object, otherwise some triangles are discarded. I had the problem when the camera was inside an ArchiTools building. Julien

Hello Ed,
Volumetric objects in Carrara can't cast shadows (Primivol as well as Carrara's volumetric primitives). It a limitation due to the current implementation of this kind of primitive inside Carrara: volumetric primitives are rendered in there own space, appart from the scene. It's this same limitation that makes the distant lights the only one available for volume lighting. I sent these remarks to Eovia when I was working on Primivol and I hope the SDK will show some improvment for Carrara 5.

This information might help: I know that some of Carrara's shaders have a nice bump implementation (like the Cellular shader), but others use a default implementation that depend a lot on the scale of the shader (like the brick one). When I did Veloute, I made specific developments for the bump, so they usually give better result than the Carrara one's. What you could try if you want to use the Carrara brick shader in the bump channel, it's to use it after the Veloute Filter shader: it should improve the bump. Julien

There's in fact 2 rooms separated by a short wall. The wall height is set to .2 inch, the floor on one side to .1 inch and on the other side to .2 inch: this make a .1 inch step. You can also set thte wall thickness to 0 if you don't want to see a border on the floor shading. Julien

Hi Johannes,
The glow of the fog can be set using the Intensity parameter. And you can darken the profected shadow of the cloud on the scene by increasing its density.
Currently the fog can't receive shadows from other objects, as well as it can't receive light from ligth cones and light bulbs. These are 2 limitations I'm aware of, but I couldn't find a way to solve them with Carrara 3 or 4 architecture. I'll complete the volumetric model as soon as a solution is available.
About the evaluation version, if you lower the renderer quality ( setting the Antialiasing to Fast or None, and the Pixel accuracy to 2 or 4 pixels ) you should be able to render more than 4 or 5 times the primitives. Let me know if you think it's still not enough with these settings, I can build another demo that authorized a little bit more renders.
