If the average calculation works the same way today as it used to, it uses a standard deviation calculation to exclude outlying ratings. So in the case you mentioned, the "1" was an outlaying rating and was excluded from the rating calculation. But again, it used to be that way, maybe not exactly that today.

One more point, RTEncoderPy only supports RTEncoder 1.0 files. RTEncoder 2.0 files are not supported.

Ok, that clarifies your question a bit. :)
It was developed outside of Poser using Python 2.3 and 2.5. It will be supplied to the end user in .py files, to be as cross-platform as possible. Pure Python, no C++, no .pyc. The license is the exact same as RTEncoder and includes both encoding and decoding support.
Hope that helps.

Hi nruddock. I honestly don't know which versions of Poser it runs in. That's part of why I'm looking for beta testers to help me determine that. I can only test with what we have installed here, and that's version 7 on Windows.
Thread: RTEncoder Version 1.01 Released | Forum: MarketPlace Showcase
Hi April. RTEncoder version 1 does not know anything about the internal format of any type of file besides RTE files. So if there are changes to the key file, such as multiple versions over time, the users will have to use the same version the original encoder used to create the RTE file with. I just do not know an easy way around that problem. As for version 2, it does have one enhancement in this area ... it totally ignores line endings. This should solve any Windows/Mac/Unix text file format issues. As far as how version 2 is coming along, the internal engine is currently about 90% complete. Really just one more small piece to finish up. Then I just need to wrap a UI around it. The engine is fully portable to all platforms, and already passes my unit testing suite on both Windows XP and Mac OSX. The UI will be written in wxWidgets, which is a cross platform UI library. So Windows and Mac versions will be available at the same time. I hope to have an alpha of version 2 up before the end of the year. We'll see ... but it's close. Russell
Thread: RTEncoder for a mac??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Mark, while I appreciate that you are attempting to fill a current void in the Poser utility market with your clone of my free utility, I do not understand why you are using my name and my trademark in the marketing of your competitive program. I would request that you refrain from using my name and my trademark "RTEncoder" in marketing your application. Russell

Hi fastLee. I am the author of RTEncoder. I'm currently in the design process for RTEncoder 2.0 which will add several new and exciting features. It will be made available for Windows, OSX and Linux/X11 simultaneously ... all native executables. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Russell
Thread: A New Topic that has not yet Digressed | Forum: Community Center
Tim: "The coordinated, disruptive posts on this site by you and your staff are numerous." Besides Mehndi's and my rare post, I'm not personally aware of any single disruptive post by the PoserPros staff on Renderosity. If I am incorrect, please feel free to point out some of these "numerous" posts to me. Your staff were the ones who started the negativity in this case, simply because Mehndi made a post. A post directed towards encouraging the fair treatment of artists in being fairly compensated for their work, rather than taken advantage of for some else's profit. Any "negativity" she shows is generally a result of her treatment by your staff. As far as "promoting" our site, I did not see any site being promoted in that thread, other than maybe 3d World. Tim: "... a new collaborative project by Renderosity members." Seems to me the members don't know much about this project they are supposedly collaborating in ... and aren't allowed to question the staff about it either. Looks more like a Renderosity staff project, designed to make money ... and I don't see anything wrong with that. Just don't do it on the backs of the members. Make sure everyone wins. :) Russell

Hi caulbox. You can also get RTEncoder from Renderosity's Freestuff as well. But, I'll save you the trouble of searching and post a direct link. :) RTEncoder is applicable to any merchant who will allow it's use for redistribution of their products. Another merchant creates a deriviative work of the original, and uses the original product as a "key". This "key" is required to decode the derivative product. And yes, DAZ has approved it's use with their products, and helped with the original beta testing. If you have any problems or questions, just let me know. :) RussellThread: SS Toy Dog "Man's Miniature Best Friend" Coming Soon to DAZ3D! | Forum: MarketPlace Showcase

calzgal: "It also seems that they are trying to break new ground in copyright protection, online sales implimentation, and consumer safety." Huh?!? Try this for "breaking new ground" ... when a stolen product is sold to a customer, give the customer a refund. Period. Eat the loss if you have to. Other sites do. Much, much, much smaller sites too. ;) Russell
