Thread: How do I find uploaded files | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
Sorry for the confusion.ย I talking about models that I purchase or download from sites like Renderosity.ย I then upload those to my Poser 11 program.ย I frequently find it difficult to find these models in my Poser 11 program.ย I will refresh folders and even restart the program to make sure all folders are current, but I still sometimes can't find the new model in my Poser library.ย Are there any easy ways to find new content?
Thread: .Rar file | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
Thanks all.ย I'm able to now unzip zipfiles with rar files in them.ย How do I now get upload them to Poser for use?ย I'm also downloading free OBJ files from sites like Turbosquid.ย The OBJ files import into Poser with the Import Wavefront OBJ command from the file tab.ย Is there a way to create a runtime and add these files to my Poser 11 library?ย It would be nice to search my library find the file and click on it to load it into Poser.ย Thanks.

Sorry, this sentence "But one can make it transparent." should read one can't make it transparent without making the entire tube transparent.ย ย

hborre,
Thank you so much. Very helpful. I was able to get the model to load in Poser 11. Although, it appears some of the parts aren't there. Most notably the flight deck. See the attached images. I'll keep fiddling the models and the files to see if I can find those missing parts. Any thoughts on where they might be? Also, I was able to download and open other OBJ files into Poser. Pretty cool. Although, I don't seem to be able to save these new models into my library. Do you know how I save these new models into my library?
Thanks so much for your help. I truly appreciate your willingness to walk me through the process.

This is my setup in P12, not any different than P11 with the exception of a few items and features that I will not get into. Left-click on Files and the contextual menu will open, listing all your options and functions. You go down the list to Import and highlight it with your cursor, another contextual menu will appear. Go down that second list and select Wavefront OBJ....
The Import Options window will open and it is here that you will find all the selectable options to bring in your model.
If the default settings do not bring in the model, load a new scene into Poser, or restart it, and go through the process again changing one option as you proceed. Hopefully, you'll hit the right combination.
As for the zip file itself, you should unzip the content into a folder where you can find it easily, perhaps the desktop. When you go to import the model in Poser, navigate to that folder and select the main OBJ of the model.

Hello hbore,
Unfortunately, I'm not well versed in Poser internal workings. I went into Poser 11 and looked under File on the taskbar, but I can't find where or how I'd open the contextual menu of a file. Also, not sure what I'm opening. The USS Enterprise zip file that I download from Renderosity?

In Poser, click on File on the Taskbar above to open the contextual menu, navigate down to Import and select Wavefront OBJ. On the Import Options window, either select one of the two radio buttons at the top for 'Of original size' or 'Of standard figure'. Without knowing how large the actual model is, you can reduce or increase the scale by entering a size in percentage. There are some other options that may or may not apply, you just need to try them. Once you have the model in the Poser scene, select the props category, create a folder in the Library and save it into your runtime. All the icon features can be found towards the bottom left of the Library panel. Be aware, according to the readme instructions, there are many other OBJ files containing other parts to the model that need to be imported also to complete it. Decals and colors need to be applied separately.

hbore,
Thanks. Quick question. How do I do that? Is there a written walkthrough or a Youtube video that would guide me through the steps?

This model is in OBJ format only so it won't show up in your Poser Library by default, it would need to be saved back into the Library as a prop. You have 2 options on importing the model and its parts, either 100% scale of original size or 100% of standard figure. The scaling can be changed considering that, as HartyBart mentions, the model is exceptionally large. You will need to adjust the scaling accordingly to import it in the Poser scene and then rescale to the size you desire.

I should have been more clear. The file doesn't to download. Other large files give me a process bar when I add them to my Poser library. When I click on the USS Enterprise file it appears empty. Nor does the file appear in my poser library.

Could "consists of 366,300 polygons" be part of the problem with this large aircraft carrier model? Can you load other models of that size, that have come from Cinema 4D (as this one has)?

I'm at a loss at your use of terminology. Everything connected to your Libraries is in a runtime folder of one type or another that can be easily linked to any version of Poser. And that is the keyword, linked. You keep saying 'create a runtime' that implies to me that you are actually creating a new runtime folder. So that needs to be clarified further.
Where did you create your original runtime for Poser 10? Was it in a shared folder location or Program Files folder if you are using Windows? I can suggest a quick way to find a particular runtime folder, open P11 and navigate to your Library, selecting any particular runtime category. Hoover your cursor over a folder or file and you will get a popup that will show where that folder/file is located. It is the most convenient way to pinpoint content pathways.
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I know Iโm not explaining what Iโd like to do very well. Let me try again.
Iโm currently using Poser 11. I have created libraries to my old Poser 10 content. See picture 1. I followed your advice and hovered over the library to discover their file paths. See pictures 2 and 3. As you can see those folders are on my external hard drive. I have additional content in my Poser 10 that Iโd like to transfer to the external folders in pictures 2 and 3. But for the life of me I can find those files on my c: drive. Does that help?

Click the folder with the plus sign and navigate to the folder the Runtime Folder is inside of.
Thanks Andy and Structure. I appreciate the help. Here's my problem. I've backed up my Poser 10 files about 8 months ago. I was poking around on Poser 11 and made a Runtime to those old Poser 10 files. To be honest I didn't like the libraries in Poser 11 and went back to using 10. Over the past 8 months I've uploaded more models to 10 that aren't in the backed up files. Now that 10 no longer works, I want to back up my current Poser 10 libraries and create a runtime to it. My problem is, I can't find where my libraries live on the c; drive. I've searched for "runtime", "libraries" and indivudal files. The correct library doesn't seem to show up. Help.

@ssmith
go to the tab Scripts on top of the Bar .... you should have a Folder called Dimension3D in there you will find the XL_ ?your version klick on it .
alternative option to run the script when Poser will start !
How to Start Python Scripts together with Poser
If you want to run a Python script each time when Poser starts, you can do so from the fileposerStartup.py, which is located in RuntimePythonposerScripts. This is a Python script that isexecuted once while Poser is starting. To start a Python script from poserStartUp.py, add the following line to this file:poser.ExecFile(":Runtime:Python:poserScripts:script.py")The path may be an absolute path (use instead of as path separator in that case) or a relative pathstarting with :Runtime as in the example above. However, Poser may not yet be fully initialized when this start-up script runs, and some scripts mayfail because of this. In that case, you may start a script with a delay for a few seconds. In Poser 8and up, this can be done as follows .....
Thanks. That worked. Although in poking around I get an error message for some of my DAZ content.
