Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 09 11:21 pm)
pokes the ebots Damn, they went on strike for me again... Nice froggy. And yeah, people wouldn't complain about CL if CL hadn't done something to set them off... Kind of like Renderosity. :)

Nice examples of P5 abilities Ronstoff. "Would I go back to Poser 4? HECK NO!! But to say that Curious Labs isn't at fault for a serious let-down (and downright travesty of a release), causing much of the negativity and cynicism, is going a bit far. Sure there are people who simply don't understand the material room (for example), but that doesn't mean there aren't some VERY SERIOUS problems with Poser 5 and CL's handling of the entire situation." That's a eloquent summary of my feelings on the matter, Tim. IMO P5 is a very rough diamond but a diamond nonetheless... (geez that was a tad too poetic. ^_^)
Hi folks... guess my ebots went AWOL with Caly's ;-) Skin Shader - please be patient, this is a WIP with a few wrinkles to be ironed out (skin... wrinkles... get it? :-O). I'm also building a female skin shader which has "silky-smooth" and "powdery" properties. Finally there will be Old Skin which has realistic creases, wrinkles and discolorations - of course ALL of these will work with ANY texture you already have. Unfortunately the shader trees are just too complex for screenshots without a LOT of explaination which I just don't have the time to do right now. A tutorial is in the works, but on a back burner. Back to the topic - Since this thread is about DAZ Studio and it's impact on CL and the Poser community in general, lets direct ourselves back to that. I'm really looking forward to the release of D/S. For one, the interface itself is to be admired, and just what I always wished Poser were like. The few render examples we have seen are equally impressive. I don't need to debate the merits of OpenGL or various methods of polygon smoothing to know, without even testing it, that this is a tool that I want in my arsenal. I've made that point several times already, yet some people seem to ignore it, and challenge me for supporting Poser - as if doing so implied that I did NOT support D/S - hogwash!. So forgive me if I seem a bit cynical, but I just don't see the need for me to join the 90% of the community who are already quite adept at bashing CL (even though they do deserve some of it) - what's the PURPOSE? Do you really NEED my voice added to that chorus, or is this more of an ego thing? I for one, do not come to this community seeking the Miss Congeniality Award. As far as I am concerned, that title already belongs (rightfully) to people like Sharen from Sams3D and Pokeydots. I come here to learn and to share what I have learned. In that process, I also try to bring a little BALANCE to issues that appear to be going lopsided. I don't do it to disrespect anyone or elevate myself - I do it to provide an alternate perspective which might otherwise be overlooked in the stampeed to join the "In-Crowd". My real wish is that people would just spend HALF as much effort learning to use the features that Poser DOES HAVE as they do COMPLAINING about what Poser DOESN'T have. Sorry about raising my voice, but is that too much to ask? What I REALLY want is to see CL survive long enough (and have incentive enough) to fix Poser5. What I DON'T want is a future where D/S is the ONLY alternative we have - and if you don't think that can happen, then I can GUARANTEE that it WILL. I dare say, that if any one of you were in CL's shoes, you would have packed up your marbles LONG ago and just faded away. So, do you think that I want to add my weight to the pressure already on CL, and possibly be the straw that broke the back? NOT ON YOUR LIFE, thanks anyway.
Well, I've already stated my POV, which is basically that competition is coming to the poser market and that it's in DAZ's interest to make DS work. I reckon this is all good. But, having said that, I've never rooted for the demise of CL. If CL go under, we're going to be a community without a software. Not only that, if CL go belly-up, we're back to square one vis-a-vis the competition. It would just mean that the monopoly passes from CL to DAZ. I hope both companies can continue to thrive, get their shit together and continue to give us products we can use and enjoy. This isn't a football match. Supporting one team doesn't mean you have to hate the other side. mac
just to get in the thread..and hopefully the bots come my way... Its all good :) I surely complained about the shape of P5...and for the most part it now works...never wished for CLs demise, but just that they get their act together. DS will be a great addition, hopefully and I really need to dig into that material room...I've dabbled, but it is full of great stuff, isn't it ? I think we owe it to ourselves and to the developers of the products we use to discuss the issues and push on the developers to fix problems...it will only result in better products and healthier companies...unless they can't take the pressure...or don't listen
