ok I have been asking round....even put a wish in the wishing well... finger cymbols. JUST finger cymbols.{you know for oriental dance}{er,...some may know that as belly dancing} I know Daz has a package that has some in them{at least from what I can tell in the advert} but all I need are the finger cymbols. as I didnt pay 40$ for my real finger cymbols I find it very hard to pay that much for virtual oneslol Does anyone know where to get some??? {I know this is a hard one}

Could you fake them with a torus and a squashed cone in Poser? It would be a first-order approximation.

Just checking? These ARE finger cymbals? If so, I'll just zip them up and they're yours...

Well, the well-endowed lady wears the pastie and the tassels go round-and-round as she "dances", if that helps you visualise it (or so I'm told).

Crescent ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2003 at 2:27 PM

ernyoka - pastries are food - eclares and cream puffs are 2 examples of pastries. As a generalization, if it's a desert with flour in it but isn't a cake or pie, it's a pastry. Pasties are nipple coverings worn by "exotic" dancers. I wouldn't be surprised if they made edible pasties somewhere, but it's not what you normally serve to guests. (Or at least I don't have the kinds of guests who'd want edible pasties!) ;-)

I really like the edible kind..and believe it or not, my wife just took a bunch out of the oven :) The others ... I prefer the natural look... It's a ling way form cymbals, but if you live in the U.S. you can order pasties(the edible version) from several places... I can recommend the included link, the price isn't too bad...I've stopped by their store several times...I will just say, they taste much better fresh out of the oven...but they have to freeze them for shipping...and they give instructions to heat via microwave or oven....DON"T EVEN PUT THEM IN THE MICROWAVE---they truely suck when heated in the MW....oven is the only way...

Okay, I forgot about Cornish pasties which are meat and potato filled rolls. They're good but rather bland. (Doesn't that sum up most English food? Well, not necessarily the good part, lol!) You don't see Cornish pasties much in the U.S. so the few times the word "pastie" ever pops up, it's assumed to be the strip club kind. (Especially with this group!) ;-) Cheers!

pakled ( ) posted Sun, 23 November 2003 at 8:15 PM

Dang, I'm of an age to remember them, the trick was to use the muscles...er pecs, to rotate the tassles in a propeller-like fashion..the experts could get them going clockwise and anti-clockwise at the same time..;) and grown men would pay money to see this..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

"the experts could get them going clockwise and anti-clockwise at the same time"

That talent is demonstrated to perfection in the movie, "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark."

Darkginger ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 1:23 AM

I take issue with the description of Cornish pasties as 'bland'! Correctly made, they are marvels of peppery taste - though perhaps a little too subtle for an American palette scorched by all that Mexican chilli heat! ;) <--- please note the smiley! Neither are they 'rolls' - they're made from pastry, and have a distinctive crescent shape, with a fluted and crimped seam where the edges are joined together. They can contain meat and potatoes, but it's more common to find the potatoes enhanced with the addition of mashed swede or other root vegetable. Some say that it was traditional for one end of the pastie to be filled with meat etc (flavoured with white pepper), and the other with a sweet filling, like apple, thus providing a substantial two course meal, which could be held in one hand by Cornish fishermen and mine workers. A proper Cornish pastie is a delight! (Never thought I'd be writing about them here, though!)

elgyfu ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 2:42 AM

Ah, but has any Cornish woman tried twirling a pastie with tassles? I have just got up and came to see what you guys were talking about - I should have known ......

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 3:55 AM

There are Cornish pasties in Nevada City and Grass Valley California and they are anything but bland. If you want to twirl a tassel on a pastie (the one for dancers), you have to use a swivel, won't work otherwise. I use to make them for dancers. And you don't have to be well-endowed to twirl them. 8^) Marque

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 6:29 AM

"have a distinctive crescent shape" - maybe Crescent objects on anti-cannibalistic grounds? And Marque, they will be well-endowed by the time they spend the money earned by twirling pasties on pastry pasties.

Crescent ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 8:46 AM

"have a distinctive crescent shape" - maybe Crescent objects on anti-cannibalistic grounds? If I can put up with the French and their croissants, I can put up with other crescent shaped items. ;-) With all the confusion on pastry vs. pastie, I figured it was easier to generalize Cornish pasties as being inside rolls instead of pastry crust. I love the crust for Cornish pasties, but the filling is heavy and bland. Black pepper is not a spice - it's a lame attempt to hide bland taste. Bleech! (And I do eat chiles on occasion, and chili every once in a while, but I've never had chillis.) ;-) A spiced apple filling does sound intriguing. I may have to try that one sometime. Cheers!

Darkginger ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 11:18 AM

Ah, Crescent, chillis are of course only available outside the US! (Mea culpa!);P As for this chile stuff/thing - never 'eard of it, mate! And it's white pepper, not that contintental black stuff - didn't taste that 'til I was over 21! (Actually, that bit is true, but I had a sheltered childhood!)

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 1:03 PM

The idea, according to one theory, was that the tin-miners held on to the crust to eat the pasty, then threw it away when they'd finished so as not to get metal poisoning. A little beside the point after breathing in powdered tin ore all day, perhaps, but it amuses the grockles.

Crescent ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 2:28 PM

Red and green chiles are used in dishes like enchildas. (If anyone wants a good and easy to make enchilada recipe, just let me know.) They're kinda like a cross between red (or green) peppers and jalapenos. Green chiles are usually hotter than red. Chili is a Texan dish, kinda like a meat and kidney bean stew but really thick and usually very spicy. The meat can be anything from hamburger to beef roast to venison. Sometimes you'll see chili that's beans only. Rarely you'll find chili without beans. (But that's the only way I'll eat it.) A dash of white pepper is good for taco meat seasoning, but I've never had it on anything else. Maybe I'll chance it someday on something else. I think we've drifted away from the original topic just a tad. ;-)

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 2:42 PM

Chili sin frijoles? Ay, dios mio! Chili without beans is like Siegfried without Roy or Abbott without Costello.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 3:14 PM

White pepper is stronger and more aromatic than black pepper. It is used whenever you want pepper taste in something that is light, as in mashed potatoes, or bechamel sauce, or you can of course use it whenever you would use normal black pepper. And yeah, we're way off topic, but it's fun, isn't it? :o)

I can't stand frijoles. I love Boston baked beans, but frijoles just don't work. (Yeah, yeah, gringa alert here!) There's something about the color and texture (let alone the taste) that is a total turn off. Para mi, chili sin frijoles es como e-mail sin spam - muy raro pero muy agradable. ;-)
