Subject: MarkDC product support?

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 12:52 PM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 5:05 AM

Been trying to contact him, but can't. Anyone else having issues with Clothing Converter and Autogroup Editor? Apparently there is a version 1.3 for Autogroup Editor but how does one get it? I bought it recently from Renderosity, but it says version 1.0 I'm abit frustrated with both of these programs not working and hanging. His "support" forum has been down as well.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:13 PM

Yeah I read about some issues with clothes converter as well. I know this will probably also impact sales of his new morph maker utility as well. I bought clothering converter, and haven;t installed it yet, and am wondering how i'll get the video tutorials, if the his website is down.

I find it a little ironic that he is cranking out all these programs that obviously have problems, and then makes it difficult to contact him about it. I hate to jump on people like this, but it sets off my red flags... I'm surprised that Rend and Daz haven't said/done something since it looks bad for them as well, seeing as they are selling the products.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:27 PM

I posted a thread about it over at Daz.. there are issues with another utility Daz bought from someone, (and are now marketing as a Daz product)and very similarly, the same author keep getting new product submitted, even though there is no current hope at all of getting the bugs cleaned up (they need support from the ahthor, and evidently he has not done so yet). IMHO Brokering sites policy should be: Fix the bugs in the products you have already sold, and that we are selling, and THEN we'll approve your new items for sale. If I sell something and it's screwed up somewhere, THAT will be my 1st priority, no matter what other irons I have in the fire.

sigh I wonder what my chances are of getting my money back then...?

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:46 PM

Well, Daz has a 30 day money back guarentee, but why not wait a few more days, and see if MarkDc can sort his problems out? What issues are you having? Maybe someone here knows of a fix?

genny ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:50 PM

I bought this from the MP and when I had a problem (it crashes my computer) I posted on their "once upon a time" forum......and got no response. It seems to me, that what seems to be too good to be true.........is just that. Oh, well.......what more can I say?

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:52 PM

Well, the .obj file that I want to group loads fine, it's when I try to load the source CR2 file, it says "Please wait" and shows the little walking lady, then it just keeps waiting and I have to eventually hit Ctrl, Alt Del and it says "not responding". I know there is a version 1.3, but mine from Rend Marketplace is 1.0 and I don't see anywhere to download the upgrade. And, yes, I'm trying to use Koshini (2 to be exact), which I'm wondering if there is an issue with that...

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:52 PM

If something does not work on your system because of bugs, you should get a refund, plain and simple.

Genny, Did you end up getting your money back?

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 1:56 PM

Someone else reported something similar, but I also know other people that are converting clothes fine. Maybe just let it run next time for a LONG time, and see if it resolves itself? (like poser occasionally needs to)

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 2:05 PM

Just tried it again, and when I went to load the source CR2, it wouldn't even let me choose it...the cursor started to flicker, a strange small white rectangle appeared behind the pop-up window and it totally locked up.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 2:10 PM

What operating system are you running? XP?

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 2:16 PM

Yes, XP.

genny ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 2:29 PM

No, I did not get my money back.....but I didn't ask for it back. All I wanted was for the product to work. (: I am running Windows xp (home version) and have Pentium4, 2.66. GHz, and 512 mb of Ram? I think that is sufficient to use the program....but it doesn't work for me? Oh, well.........another one bites the dust. (:

duckmango ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 3:41 PM

My one and a half cents:

Clothes convertor works OK on my XP machine (P4-2.2 Ghz) with an ATI Radeon 8500 card. It locks up when using certain features, like symmetry mode, so I just avoid those. But I do consider the program "functional", and I have been able to use it to convert V1-Stephanie clothes to V3.

I've also used CC on a Windows 98se, P3-700 machine with an third party ATI 9200se card. It tended to lock up randomly, so I lowered the video hardware acceleration in the Control Panel. It's not an ideal workaround (especially if you're a gamer), but it did stop the random freezes.

Dunno if this will be of any help...

aodor ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 3:45 PM

Cyhiraeth, on the Preferences Tab check the box hide progress Window, that eliminates the walking lady which is what makes the program crash. I got this advice from Markdc who has helped me with other issues. I always contact him through Renderosity Messaging System and he answers back. good luck Alberto Odor, MD Mexico City

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 4:01 PM

Thank you, Alberto, I will try this. Duckmango, thanks, I haven't actually tried the Clothing Convertor yet...just been going by others' feedback. I suppose I shouldn't pass judgement until I have actually tried it on my system. Rend has an e-mail out to MarkDC for me also.

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 4:05 PM

I don't have an option to hide progress. I think maybe it's because I have version 1.0 and not version 1.3, which I'm trying to get, but the link I have doesn't work.

MeInOhio ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 6:52 PM

Try the help menu. Can't remember for sure but there might be an option to check for updates there.

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 11:05 PM

It has links to the website and forum, but the forum is down.

rrkknight3 ( ) posted Sat, 08 May 2004 at 6:08 AM

He's answered my questions when I've asked with Renderosity IM/Email, like Alberto.

The tutorials were installed on my computer when I installed the program. They're available at the end of the Start Menu items, as Video Tutorials.

Crashes and hangs with OpenGL programs, like CC, are frequently the OpenGL-ness rather than the program. You can sometimes use the Control Panel->Display Settings->Settings->[some tab depending on vendor]->[lower your acceleration] and get out of these sorts of problems.

Hope this helps!

He fixed a lot of those issues when the review came out. I think I have a URL to version 1.03. Is it breach of ToS or anything to share the upgrade URL ? (Need to see if the site is up, though) ~S

genny ( ) posted Sat, 08 May 2004 at 11:21 AM

Hi Spinner, I can't seem to find it over at 3-darena? Could you please specify where it can be found? Thank you. (:

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Sat, 08 May 2004 at 11:31 AM

Hi all, Just got an e-mail from Mark with the upgrade to version 1.3a. When I first tried it, I got the same problem....tried it again and it worked. It still has that weird flickering cursor, so maybe you are right, rrkknight3, maybe it is an OpenGL problem. If I still have problems, I'll try your idea about lowering my acceleration. (BTW, what do you suggest for a good number to lower it to?) Thanks, all, and I'll keep you updated on how it's working.

aodor ( ) posted Sat, 08 May 2004 at 1:17 PM

Cyhiraeth: If your problem with the cursor is that every movement you make makes a big change in the model, go to Preferences and modify the move Size and Scale size until you have them as you need them. Mine are currently at 0.0001 and 1.05 respectively. Hope this helps Alberto

rrkknight3 ( ) posted Sat, 08 May 2004 at 1:52 PM

It sounds like our friend aodor has had more experience with CC than I have. It would certainly be worth following his recommendations first.

When I'm looking for an OpenGL problem (alas, too many with ATI particularly), I generally start by turning it off, if that's possible. Then I turn it up halfway and see if there's still a problem. Using that as hunting technique, I either raise or lower it by half until I find a value that works. Of course, other problems may require readjusting it again.

Another choice is to look for an updated display driver, but that can occasionally make things worse rather than better if it's something subtle.

Regards,
Robert

Cyhiraeth ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2004 at 12:32 PM

Autogroup Editor doesn't have an option to modify the cursor size and/or scale. Matbe you are thinking of Clothing Convertor. It flickers when it is "thinking" or loading, and version 1.3a still doesn't have the option of turning off the little "walking lady", which is when it seems to be flickering.

aodor ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2004 at 1:44 PM

Sorry I was speaking about Clothes Convertor. I also have problems with many openGL programs and have to turn it Off sometimes, like with Vue Pro, using an ATI card
