Hello everyone.... I've been itching to get Poser for a year now and I've finally got it. I was looking for some referrals to tutorials on how to use Poser... the basics. Free or paid I don't care. If anyone can give me some tut links I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in Advance. Blessings

You could do a lot worse than searching the forum here for Dr Geep's Primer series. They are very good tutorials.

Welcome to the insanity, as far as Tutorials go check the tutorials section of the forum, and for for great freebies stop by the Freestuff. Also be ready to make a big dent in your wallet and buget when you step into the MarketPlace, I predict you will spend a lot of money there.

WELCOME, WELCOM0E, WELCOME!!!!!!!

Ask me a question, and I'll give you an answer.

sorry i dont have any tutorials, just wanted to welcome you and repost my (revised) guide to the forums

Tygers Guide to the forums (or Tygers observations so far) v1.1

  1. Newbies are not flamed for being newbies. Ask most anything you like, youll almost always get an answer. It may be a link to a thread where someone else asked the same thing (usually with a note to search the forum before asking), it may be a tutorial, it may be directions or it may be its in the manual/readme file etc..

  2. Violate copyright, IP or trademark, you will be crucified.

  3. Try to maintain some illusion of being on topic. Not only of a specific thread but of the particular discussion area. This is a courtesy to the other members who have a limited schedule (or attention span) and can only read so many threads in a day. The moderators sometimes move off topic threads to the OT boards or to more appropriate boards.

  4. Use the Nudity and Violence tags when you show nudity or violence. Be conservative in your estimations. There are people who view from work who will not get in trouble for viewing the forums but will for viewing porn.

  5. Controversial subjects breed long and fruitless threads. Enter at your own risk.

  6. For better or worse, people here seem to complain more than any other place I have seen. Policy X isnt fair, product Y doesnt work as advertised, etc, etc. Dont get me wrong, some of these are legitimate complaints, but almost every one of them would be better served if they were sent to .say.somebody that could do something to correct the situation, instead of aired in a public forum.

  7. Grow a thick skin before you ask for a critique of your work. Many well meaning people express themselves poorly in such situations.

  8. Dont correct others spelling or grammar. Between typing errors and people for whom English is a second language, we could drive a herd of English teachers insane.

  9. Preview before you post. Use a word processing program with a spell checker if possible.

  10. Moderators are only human. The downfall of having a popular message board is that your moderators can never seem to read every message. If you think there is a violation. Report it thru the appropriate channels (that is NOT by starting a new thread and complaining about how the moderators never enforce the TOS)

  11. When asking for help or having a problem, include what version of Poser youre using and what operating system (pc or mac). It can make a big difference in the answers you get.

Welcome aboard

Ditto to Tyger_purr's advice and also a big welcome to the Insanity Defense League International! I came here 6 months ago with no experience in 3D at all. I still ask "stupid" questions and get nothing but warm results and proper answers. I firmly believe there is no stupid questions, if you don't know the answer it's a viable question. Practice, practice, practice is the key. Don't try to start out too big, learn the basics first and then progress. Good luck and again say good-bye to your budget because "We have such sights to show you!"

Hey Tyger_purr! That is actually a great "welcoming letter" to this insane asylum we have here :o) You got all the basic do and don't stuff covered! Welcome darkpantharmoon. If you've got Poser 5, I've just finished a VERY beginner's tutorial a few days ago, it's on my homepage, where you'll also find a lot of Poser-related freebies (note: Most sections there have multiple pages - something a lot of people seem to miss) Enough promotion, now go see if it's anything you can use :o) (link above)

Welcome! I'm a newbie myself. My first question is which Poser you have? I'm still working on producing my first picture with Poser 5. It's not easy. Well, I've got to get to work. Again, Welcome to Poser. Kristta

Welcome. This is a good and helpful - and very generous - community. There's also a tremendous amount of talent, skill and artistry to be found here. And we're mostly nice people, too. As an addition to the advice given above, another courtesy is to give your help requests a meaningful title. For example, "Help wanted!" is non-specific and will get a lot less attention than something which relates to the actual problem you're having. That said, never be afraid to ask a question. Somebody here will more than likely know the answer.

usually when someone one starts a post with 'new to poser...', 'get ready to blow your allowance...' follows. I've been using poser for a few years now, spent about $100 so far, most of that was Vickie3. Most of the rest hase been on monthly renewal for DAZ's Platinum Club. Easily doubled the phone bill DL'ing freebies. Freebies. FREEBIES!

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sat, 05 June 2004 at 6:02 AM

Uhm but if you have Platinum club, surelyu you BUY something from that too? Or it is silly to pay the subscription fees... Indeed there are a LOT of Poser-freebies and if you're on pay-per-minute dial-up it can get very costly to get free stuff :o) the thing is.. You download a lot of neat things, only to f ind out that they require some other character, like Victoria (1, 2 or 3) or some clothes you haven't got. Then you start out slowly by buying THAT, and then the snowball starts rolling ;o) Poser is strangely addictive. And as with all other addictions, you start out believing that "you can handle this"... untill you some day join the Posaholics Anonymous and have to confess that you are also an addict. Hello, my name is TrekkieGrrrl and I'm a Posaholic. And please don't cure me!
