Subject: Multiple objects on one dial?

LadyBea32 ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 3:00 AM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 8:16 PM

ok i would like to know if anyone here knows how or knows of a tutorial or something to show me how to put multiple objects into one dial for a figure. Something sort of the effect of the ultimate changing ponytail. How on one dial you can change the look of the ponytail part without messing up the rest of the hair. thanks bea

Hey there, It is so easy. 1) Put the parts in a folder 2) Add as many alternateGeom sections as you have new parts 3) Set Dial Max to that number of items and set force limits to 4 so the dial is restricted.

all of this goes in the actor section for the bodypart that is going to change.

Regards,
Anton

PS: Pink stuff is text you are adding. You can use this code exactly as it is. Just changing the path to your obj, changing the number in "max" and the name of the dial. I use "ChangePart"

Use something like this for clothing:
Torso to head
1001,1002,1003, etc

Right side parts
2001,2002,2003,etc

LeftSideParts
3001,3002,3003,etc

A uniform numbering system will prevent confusion.

You can also look in these cr2's I did a few years ago if you want to look at ways to use the code in different ways. It is always the same format. Vicki'sChangingEyeware, Vicki'sChangingFantasySuit Michael'sChangingFantasySuit Victoria'sChangingPonytailCollection Spyware Everybed Diamonds

thanks anton :D yes i have your changing ponytail....hehe i just love it. i want to see if this well work with high heels shoes...heh also wanted to ask you, i am modeling them to fit laura and i want to have them also fit other characters by doing conversions for it. Well i still be able to doing the objects in this fashion? or well i need to do it in another way? at first i had thought to just make the sole base with straps. and use that for the conversions. then having all the changable heels as add on. but it would be nice to have all of them beable to do like your items you sell. that way they are all there and just one spin of the dial they change. hug bea

Anton - I've just posted a slightly related message in a thread about hair (a few topics down) prior to reading this thread. This is exactly the sort of thing I've just spent the last hour examining. My apologies I think are in order as I now seem to recall - and I failed to mention - that (I think) you were the original inventor of this technique?

bea, You need sperate obj files for each figure if they cannot normally use the same cr2. Just move the shoes to match the other figure and save them. I don't quite understand you about the heels. Any part can change. You can have changing soles, changing straps, and changing heels on the same cr2. I have made these but use them privately to assemble props, clothing and enviornments. I call them "PoserMachines". I used to have a posable, changing "poserMachine" that I used to use to assemble hair products. You can do the same for your shoes but be warned, complex changing figures can generate alot of confusion and hostility. Include lots of info in the readme and don't be offended if someone thinks it's broken because they didn't read the readme. hehe You might just want to include several pairs and swap out entire shoes. caulbox, years ago I and JeffH(completely seperate from each other) were trying to figure out the syntax for changingGeom. My syntax was faulty. JeffH crack it and made his finding public. My mistake was that I was missing the ref number after the obj tag. I think Vicki's Changing Fantasy suit was the first commecial product that changed and also showed people you could swap out a whole outfit. The Ponytail was the first hair figure that used it, etc. For that reason I became forever associated with the technique, but JeffH cracked it. I just put it to uses people hadn't considered at the time. I think those items helped made the technique popular. I did create sub-diving material poses though. hehe. A few years ago I was trying to find a way to add morphs with a pose. That was pre INJ/REM. MerrilynEllison (SilverleifStudios/D'Mentia) kept asking me to find a way to assign new materials with a pose file. While experimenting Subdividing material poses were born, though it wasn't what I was originally trying to do. That led to the first bodygloves. It was so exiting. By the end of the first week, there were hoisery packs for free everywhere. That then led to Vicki's leg material zone. SOrry for the tangent but I love old Poser Trivia as my friends can tell you. lol. I recently discovered something new which I will make public shortly.

Hey Anton! I was just using your lovely V3 make-up textures the other day and wondering what you were up to.

Look forward to your new work; do you have a website? Elisa/gryffnn

Its pretty amazing what can be done with poser and other programs to. now that i understand how this works im going to try the shoes in a different manner...heh. just need to find out how to make paranting figures instead of props. thank you again Anton, hug bea
