In my opinion its not the texture size that causes memory problems.
I do 3 things to save memory for large scenes.

The settings for bump maps are a little different for P5 than P6. I've noticed that the bump values for P6 need to be a lot lower otherwise your render will not only stall, but you probably won't get a good effect either. Also, it helps to increase the texture size as sometimes there will be a strain if you are trying to render larger textures at a smaller value.

Hi there, In P6, when I use bump(jpg) on all my materials I am getting out of memory lock. Max map size is set to mid 3000's Anyone else having this problem. I have a gig of ram and a Radeon 7200. Anton
