Subject: Lighting Question

Hey,

Just wondering what I'm doing wrong.  I was experimenting with lights.  For a plain and simple start, I pointed a spotlight at the camera and rendered it.  I was expecting to see a circle of light.  Instead, I saw nothing.  Does this require volumetric lighting to get a somewhat hazy circle?  If so, is that part of DS or is it an add-on?  To answer the simple questions, the light was on.  I tried both shadow types and adjusted intensity.

My desire is to do some backlighting of a character to get a shadowy outline, like they do in the opening credits of the Bond films.  Do I do this with spot lighting?  Or do I need to create a "sheet" between the character and the camera and use area lighting?

  Thanks for your time!

No, you can't see light sources in D|S - just the light they cast onto things. You also don't get light (or silhouettes) if you look at the back of a semi-transparent surface with a light shining on its front (that can be achieved by faking, there's a turtorial in the DAZ Arcana section, or with the pwSurface shader).

Thanks for your help RHaseltine.  I may just have to give it a try in Poser instead.
