Subject: help with uploading created poser content

marcus55 ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2007 at 11:38 AM · edited Mon, 29 July 2024 at 7:36 AM

Hi all,

I want to upload some content I have created for poser using 3Ds max, to give back to the renderosity community because I have downloaded a lot of free content here and would like to say thank you to all the great artists who have made some very kewl content available for free download.

Can anyone help me out with this, I am fairly new to 3D artwork and really love it since getting poser 7 and 3Ds max 8. I want to make sure my content is the right size, has the right format, features, etc, and includes all the files so that it will be usefull to people who might want to use it in their renders.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Marcus

Marcus sounds like you want a beta tester for your freestuff?

Can you give us a little more detail on what the content is? Do you need help with a host for your items etc

Hi,

Thanks for your posts.  I am working on creating a lot of "prop" items that I have not
seen on any of the web sites I have checked out, things that might be useful for
people who need props for different artworks. Props are things that can be found, but
usually cost money and I would like to create a large amount of available props for
people for free download.

I am using 3Ds Max 8, and really love using this program, it is so easy to create with this
3D application, and I know I will be constantly creating various props that could be used
with poser, but I am new to 3D artwork so I am not really sure how to set them up in the
best way for use with poser.

I have already exported .obj files to poser, imported them into poser and tried working
with them, but they always seem to be at the wrong size, and I am having a hard time
making them 'user friendly' for use in poser. So I am looking for some good information
from some experienced people who know the ins and outs of creating props in 3Ds max, the exporting and importing parameters, how to group the various parts in poser and add materials, and finally how to create one file that people can download and install that will
give them the prop at the right size, with the groups and materials all set up for them.

I am interested in any help in any way, since I am new to all of this, I am not sure what
the best way is to do these things.

Hope that is a little clearer than my previous post.

thanks again,

M

Oooo Okies, I have gotten a hold of one of my team members who works in the 3DS Max forum, 'wheatpenny' and asked him to pop in here and help you out with these issues. I dont know enough about Max to tell you anything, but he can def help you get things sorted ;)

I'd suggest asking in the main Poser forum, because I know there are many members modelling in Max who'll be able to give you advice. I do know that Poser's scale is minuscule compared to the default in every modeller out there, so be prepared to work large and scale down at some point in your workflow.

Yup, prolly wouldn't hurt to ask in both Max and Poser...I know its sounds like we are making you hop all over the place, but its the best way to get answers since you are dealing with 2 different programs

Jumps do you test every free item?

Site Admin

Export the object in .obj format (Poser's native format).
To scale it to the right size, load it into the default Poser scene (the scene that appears when you first open P7), using Simon as a guide, scale the object till it's the right size. Then use the materian room to load the textures.  Open the props library to the folder you want to save it in and click in the plus sign to save the item as a prop.
