Yea, I thought about posting their name,, and sending them a link to the post, but then I'd be the bad guy. I did send a copy of the message to admins here asking if I have to put up with those kinds of site mails (if it was regular email, I could just block the sender). So we'll see.
This is a third site mail I got of this nature in last few months. First two I ignored and deleted. Now I'm starting to think maybe there's a trend. That means I got more mail from people bitching I don't allow commercial use then I did from people saying thanks, I like your freebie (total of two).
No, I don't expect special thanks for making a few freebies. At the same time I also don't expect to be harped on. If people don't like them, I won't make any more.
So if there's a group of lurkers that has a problem with people not allowing commercial use on their freebies, and they decided to start a private site mail shaming campaign in hopes of intimidating people into giving away more stuff - out with it.
This falls under the cases where you give someone a hand, and they are ticked off you didn't cut your arm off for them. [eyeroll]
[yes, I'm still ticked off and venting]

I don't think you'd be the bad guy, because obviously this guy wants to turn around and sell freebies to the poser community, and should be tar n feathered.
People should be warned about jerks like this, so they aren't taken in by them.
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
I dunno what the person really wanted, I looked at the gallery, and it's all photographs, no Poser work, and it's noone I saw in forums or had interaction with before.
Judging by their 'friends list', It appears to be someone whom frequents galleries a lot.
Maybe someone whom already has a beef with something or someone and is looking to pick a fight. Who knows.

The fscking nerve of some people !! If s/he/it wants to make some fscking money from a freebie then they can fscking well model it themselves and sell it. Almost makes me want to learn to poserise something just so I can release it with a non commercial license attached. If they catch me with site mail like that after a bad day at work then their computer might just catch fire.
:cursing:
(tagged for language even though fscking is actually something you do to fix a unix file system - the thought was there though!)

Connie - I know how you feel. And I think I might know you got a post from.
Recently got a mail asking for permisson to host a couple of my freebies at their new site.
Fine that wasn't a problem. I'm always happy to share.
Few days later another mail ..asking if I could remove the ones I "gave" from my site for a little while until they'd made a name for themsleves!!!
One photo of a cats rear (with lifted tail) and instructions of where to kiss was sent in return! :)
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

I swear, some people!
Now you remionded me, I actually host freebies on my own site/domain name, that I pay for monthly, to make sure there's enough bandwidth, and no jumping through several commercials and promo sites till you get to the freebie!
You click on the 'download' and the file downloads, without any fuss.
What's next? I'll be asked to do their work for them????? sheesh!

I'm really upset about this. Why doesn't anybody moan about MY freebies? C'mon, trolls, am I not good enough for you? Make my day, punks. Meanwhile, here are some relevant words from Fyrespiryt which will open in a new window so you can keep them handy at all times.
Hey Connie, I just wanted to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU!! for the leather blacksmith apron you modeled and uploaded to Free Stuff!! I've tried to do some modeling. It's a TON of work. And if it wasn't for the generosity of all the free stuff providers, my renders would be a lot poorer. Thank you thank you thank you! :D
Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things! ; )
*actually host freebies on my own site/domain name,
*What's next? I'll be asked to do their work for them????? sheesh!
*Give it time :) LOL.
On the postive side - not every one is like this - most mails (95-99%) say thanks and it's always nice to see what's done with your creations.
Nice link there Bob.
Now what freebie would you like us to moan about :) LOL
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
I love that FireSpiryt page!!!!
Elfwine, no special thanks needed, I'm glad you like it, and tickled that you noticed it.
Thanks guys and gals for kind words to my bitchin' and moanin' here.

Just a quick update - since I raised a ruckuss in here.
I don't remember if I mentioned it earlier or not, I did send a note to Rendo Admins with a copy of the site mail I recieved, asking them if that was acceptable. The good news is, they said it's not acceptable.
That's a relief! :)

Well, I know exactly how it feels. I've uploaded a small amount of freebies, just because I like to make things, and have no intention (yet) to sell it. But there has been two occasions that I'm almost sure that someone took one of my freebies and sold it as a commercial item. In both cases it was my beachchair, the first time I found a replica on an italian site and complained about it to the seller, I got a reply that it was cheer coïncidence that we had made the same chair. Because I couldn't prove it was actually my chair I took that for granted and left the case. The second time was a merchant on the rendo MP. In both cases the original Object and texture were changed, but there is a reason why I think it's my chair: When I made this particular chair I searched the net for sample foto's and you will be amazed how much variety there is in beachchairs. And in both cases they made exact the same chair as I did. Coïncidence? I don't think so! But I said in my readme that the chair could be used both commercial as non-commercial, I meant renders and not that it could be copied shamelessly. I should be more specific in the next time.
Bopperrrrrt.
PS I found a third one at DAZ, Boy, am I populair!

-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?
I'm glad that Renderosity will take action. That's really intolerable behavior. Creating models, texturing them, even rigging them if they are clothes take a lot of time. It's totally up to the creator what's allowed, and when I don't like to have "no commercial"-freestuff, there is a simple solution - don't download it in the first place. But telling "Your present is too small, make it bigger NOW" only shows what kind of person someone is. But there were a lot of freestuff providers who got emails like that, this is by far not the first thread I read about that. I fear there will always be people which expect you to work for them for free - and demand further works instead of saying "Thank You".
But I enjoyed some of the emails I got for my freebies, although they surely aren't first class. I still dabble at modeling and like it if anyone can use what I create, and it's always nice to hear that from the users. I suspect there would be much more freebies if more people would not take them for granted, but say thanks more often.
But then, I used a lot of freebies, probably starting with Anton's and Tim Laubachs great Posette-textures, and rarely mailed the providers. Taking things for granted is easy. Well, nobody is perfect, at least I did not send unfriendly or demanding mails.

The only items I've released with the Non-Commercial usage clause have been items loosely based on copyrighted items like my Lost In Space stuff. I can't tell you how many requests I've had from people asking me to complete the items and make them more technically accurate to the original copyrighted items or asking if they can use them in their own commercial endeavors. I just hit delete. If they want to stick their necks out with the original copyright holder that's on their heads not mine.
Ah yes is it not grand, this happened to me last week with some twit emailing me about some of my stuff on SGShare saying I dont like you personal usage statement.
My reply was this, Then please feel free to buy my commercial products LOL.
Did not hear back from the twit.
And Connie that cat picture is priceless still laughing.

You shouldn't let that type of person get to you :) There is always one...ok, two ... in a crowd.
There are way more people who are appreciative of freebies, even if they do not offer commercial use privilages. Unfortunately it's the few that jump up and down and cause a scene that are noticed and remembered. The appreciative ones are usually quiet and silently thankful. And there are way more of those! :)
Next time you get a message like that, delete it. Don't even bother to reply because that is only feeding their cause and giving them more fuel for their fire.
Life is way too short to get your back up over a few vocal people.

*You shouldn't let that type of person get to you :) There is always one...ok, two ... in a crowd.
*Yeah, I know I shouldn't let them get to me, but dammit, the person in question caught me amid PMS. (Tough luck for them) :P
I wish they were just onesies and twossies. Unfortunately, I've seen a trend (not just here on rendo) where people insist on online freebies being available for commercial use, and moan and complain and even try to villify them, when authors of those freebies don't want to blanketly allow commercial use. So, it has become a pet peeve of mine.
I'm not too worried about small time merchants and ma and pa kind of stores. Actually, that's just why I say I grant commercial license use on case by case basis, because I'm very likely to grant it to the 'little people', for free.
One example, still ongoing, so I can't get into specifics, is where people didn't have a choice of limiting commercial usage of the freebies they offered, and a sizeable company harvested them and started selling packages of them for several hundred dollars a packet, to people whom weren't aware those things are free. (One of my non-rendo freebies is involved in it, and I just have to count it as a loss)
If I blanketly allow commercial commercial use, then I'm opening myself up to more of this type of being taken advantage of.
Yes, I like to share my stuff with a community, but at the sime time, if a sizeable company happens to notice my work, and thinks they can make significant amount of money with it (which has happened in the past), I'm not willing to give up potential significant profits from my work.

HI Connie!!! there is always some sad type of person who has no idea of how to model, texture or in fact do anything with other peoples work than try to rip it off.
Most people, including myself start off as users of others work, some of us go that one stage further and start creating things for others to use.
This is where the amount of time is put into an item, you know and the rest of the beat testers for your work know how much work you have put into your items and why should someone just come along at the last second and start posting snotty letters to you.
I would have quite happily posted something of interest back to the so called person (for person add your own expeletive!).
Other have tried to rip me off in the past and usually a nice email from a lawyer does the trick.
The textures I will be making for your items will be for non commercial use, plus the templates I created for them will now be kept to the beta testers.
I'm glad Renderosity will be taking action and hopefully people like this will be removed.
There is a nice little saying I use when replying to people who mess me about.
Ignorance is bliss, so this means that you must be the most blissful person in the world!

It's You!, You have all the weapons you need., Now Fight!
There's a distinction that many people don't make - including Renderosity freestuff - and it's worth restating. There's a difference between use in a commercial render, and commercial redistribution; you may wish to allow one but not the other. I allow commercial rendering, but only free redistribution (on condition that the Zip file remains intact - this is to make sure that the readme file remains with it, and the terms and conditions are passed on). Commercial redistribution needs permission. This isn't to do with money, just that I want to retain control... Something to consider next time you're writing a readme file. :)
Readme should state ,
Since most conditions rely on the honesty of the person using it , its largly a waste of time , unless you are lucky enough to catch them at it . Ebay regularly has people selling freestuff bundles but claim the cost is for the time taken to collect them .

I'm worried about legit sizeable companies taking the product, and then having no recourse. For example, no leg to stand on to issue a cease and desist notice. I used to think, what are the chances of an actuall company doing this, my stuff isn't that great... Till it actually happened, and then I had no choice but to say yes... I agreed to commercial use.
My ideal 'commercial clause' would be something to the effect of... No royalties owed for the first few hundred dollars (perhaps $200-$500) Then as the amount of money increases, so does the royalty.

Hi I think it is really wrong of someone to spam you looking for goodies, but could it be a confusion about what is meant by commercial use, I’m never sure if I am just prohibited form using it in a commercial image or from selling which the later I would have thought as self evident as I didn’t make the thing, which is why I never get stuff that is for non-commercial use as I might do an image using hair or glasses and be told I have infringed on someone’s copyright. I don’t mind someone putting that limit if they want to as it is their work but sometimes I really would love to use something and am in doubt as to whether or not I can and leave it. But as I said at the beginning no one should be hassling you about your generosity.

Did you know that If you choose to give your freebies away with non commercial use, you can expect people sending you 'shaming' messages via renderosity site mail, for not allowing someone else to try and make money from work you're giving away for free.
My first thought was... are you serious??? My second thought was, I can't believe some people, you get something for free, then you piss and moan that you can't turn around a resell or use it to make money. THEN you have the audacity to bitch at the author of the thing that you wanted to take advantage of in the first place for not letting you?
Heck, a lot of people do freebies because they have to if they want to get themselves noticed or get better, or if they are building a portfolio. Not because they have too much money or too much time on their hands. Then you get some twerp shaming you because you don't want your efforts taken advantage of and acting like your resources are unlimited, and they're somehow treated unfairly and limited by your not blanketly alowing commercial use.
This is exactly the kind of peopel I don't want using my freestuff, the ones that take my efforts for granted, and see them as some sort of entitlement.
On top of that, if that person actually bothered to read my readmy file, they'd know that there is a clause there explaining how to go about getting a commercial use permission (which are granted on case by case basis, in most cases just for the asking). If they are going to try to make some money off of my work, that's the least they can do, drop me a note asking for permission.
(Yes, I'm ticked off - language advisory ticked on)
