Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 29 6:06 am)
1- The OBJ itself, just imported into Poser
2 - The OBJ after Setup Room, with default V4 bone structure added
3- The OBJ, conformed to V4.
Few things I don't understand... When the bone structure is applied, the boots take a "posed on the floor" stance, I believe they should still look like in the first frame, and no poke through should be visible on the shins. And second... well, once conformed everything goes terrible. Am I using the right bone structure?? Am I missing something?
Any help anyone?
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Select the boots.
Go to Figure > IK Chains and ensure all legs are turned ON
Select right foot and set all translation dials to zero. (They may already be zero but best to check.)
Select left foot and do the same thing.
Go to Figure > IK Chains and turn all legs OFF
Open the joint editor and click the Zero Figure button.
Now the magic bit, go to Edit > Memorize > Figure.
Save the figure to the library.
What is the result?
(You may need to save to the library then reload to see the result.)
Quote - I just modeled a pair of boots for V4 in 3dsmax, imported in Poser, and fitted to the character.
This sounds as if you modified the boots once you'd imported them into Poser - perhaps by scaling or translation?
That's Rule Number One of conforming clothing making - the geometry file has to fit the figure in zero pose without any alteration. The surest way to check is to import the figure's OBJ geometry file (not load it from the library) with all the options unchecked, then do the same with your clothing. The latter should now fit the former.
I'm restating what Phil said, I know, but this is a really important point. :-)
Thanks EnglishBob... What i did: modeled the boots in Max and exported. Once in Poser, I imported the OBJ, but the scale was really off, so i adjusted the scale inside Poser to fit the figure, and exported back again.
Then I imported that new OBJ with all options unchecked, and it fitted perfect... That should be ok, isn't it?

It's my first attempt at modelling Poser conforming clothes and something is not working... I just modeled a pair of boots for V4 in 3dsmax, imported in Poser, and fitted to the character.
Next, I exported the fitted OBJ, and reimported again. Everything seems to work fine... I then went to the Setup room and added the default V4.2 skeleton and autogrouped the polygons.
Here's the catch, when i go back to the Pose room, and conform the boots, they suddenly deform really bad and look awful.
What am I doing wrong? Any help is welcome, thanks.
