Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 01 10:58 pm)
Hi
Try this...
Go into the folder and change the name of the original texture to something else.
Just add a "B" to the end, and save it, you will have two files in the folder now, the original and OriginalB.jpg or what ever.
Now go back to Poser and load the "B" version, I think you will find that it now loads the correct texture.
What I do when I'm creating a texture and I want to keep testing them in Poser is label each one as "A", "B", and "C" etc.
If you change the texture and then try to load the same name it will still load the one that it has already loaded with that name and not reflect the changes.
Once you have changed the loaded texture to the "B" version you can go back and load the original version and it will stick.

If you shoot a mime, do you need a silencer?
As a matter of interest, will the reload textures command work in this instance or do you need to do the restart.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
Whenever I have created a new map for Vicky I always save it with the name changed by means of some sort of descriptor. For example if I add a tattoo to a map call sammy I will rename it to something like sammy_tto. In order to check this and get it to show in Poser, if already open, I use the 'reload textures' command and render. If I am not happy with the result I tweak the sammy_tto and again reload textures and run another render.
This appears to work but I am quite new to playing with textures and I just wondered if there was anything to be gained by closing Poser and re-opening.
As an aside, I also do the tweaks with a multi layer file and save a new .jpg everytime as I know working with a .jpg file the quality will degrade on each save. I then keep the multi-layer for future changes and because I have saved under a different file name I retain the original

What vesion of Poser?????????????????????????????????
The newest versions have texure caching. (if set so int he preferences.
You will have to exit and restart poser to clear the cache.
Or use a different texture name. put a number or a letter behind it.
PS, never over write origional files. Giving the same names can lead to confusion in a month or so.

I use Poser Pro 2012, Sr2.1 and believe it's a kind of a bug. There is no point in showing different textures in the preview and in the render. Reloading textures changes -as expected- the preview, but not the rendered texture if it has the same name as the previous one. Quite confusing. The only solution was already suggested by Mike, but the different behaviour between preview and rendering gives me the idea that the function which reloads the texture checks first if the name has changed and cancels when not.

Could be a recent bug, I guess. In the past I have reloaded the same file name many times when working on a texture, and I'm sure the commercial texture makers do it frequently.

Maybe I'm nuts, but can't figure this out. I've never worked with textures, but wanted to play around with one on a model. I made a copy, loaded it into photoshop and changed some things. Went to the materials room, and relaced the default texture with the changed. Worked fine. I used the same name, but had it saved in a different location.
The problem is when I went to reload the original texture. It shows up in the previews, it shows up in the materials room. But when I go to render, it always renders with the changed one. I deleted the changed texture, so I'm not sure where it's getting it from.
Any ideas?
And for the record, does Poser automatically save a model with a replaced texture?
