Subject: Second try

DarwinsMishap ( ) posted Mon, 27 May 2013 at 8:31 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 4:19 PM

Well, I can't seem to find the thread I posted previously on this subject, so I am doing it again.

Here is the c/p of the previous request- if anyone can give asistance it would be greatly appreciatedI have an issue I hope some Studio users can help me with?

I have both DS3 Advanced and DS4.6 Pro. I know that the material settings you can save from File>Save As>Materials in DS4.6 Pro are saved as .duf extensions and not backwards compatible with previous versions...

My question is this: I have saved a material file using the correct pathways from the texture folder in the surface tab as a .duf extension with a corresponding .png file though the .png file does not show up in the application menu under Pose even when I close out Studio and re-open it to check to see if everything saved. What the heck (Edited for whatever) am I doing wrong? My folder progression is thusly:

Runtime/Libraries/character/Armor M4 - injection files

Runtime/Libraries/material/Armor M4 - Poser material files (which work)

Runtime/Textures/Armor M4

Runtime/Libraries/Pose/Armor M4 -which has nothing showing in the program even if the .duf and .png files are in the blasted folder.

I need to figure this out for this to be sold, and I'm beyond frustrated. I have to get this into DS3 Advanced to set up the files for previous versions as well as the SSS Settings for 4.6... It's a lot of work to get done, and I have very little of it to spare.

Can anybody help? Thanks!.

I haven't check it myself yet, but I don't think the DUF format is visible to DS if it's in a Poser runtime, so saving a material preset to work with a PZ2 is a non starter, especially as DS3 can't see them either.

What you need to do is save using "File > Save as > Deprecated > Materials Preset", this will allow you to save as a DSA, which is compatible with both DS3 and DS4.

I was condensing my daz into poser runtime when there were both in a product and I couldn't with at least some dufs for the reason Bejaymac mentioned

You have to have a dummy .pz2 file with the same name as the DS preset file for it to be visible.

Yes, I realize that... that isn't the problem I am referring to. It might be another format or a subset of a format, but some files are not visible even if they have pz2 files in with them. Just to clarify, I've already done this successfully with over 1000 products.

I went and saved the Materails as suggested- under the depreciated segment (which I forgot about, thank you) of the menu.  The DSA file was made, along with a PNG file...that saved oddly.  Armor Base.dsa   and Armor Base.dsa.png

I noticed the .duf files had the same issue with the .png- the png saved Armor Base.duf.png

I went back and removed the extra extension- be it .duf or .dsa - to have them saved as .png.

I then went into the mt6 file, changed it to a pz2 and inside the editor switched out the MTL section of the data with figure.

That. in DS3, had all of the files show in the menu, but only half uploaded onto M4.

What frustrates me is that I've saved character files many times before, for paid commission work, and never had this issue.  That was in DS 3 Advanced, though.

I'm more than a little irked that everything's changed, and it just simply cannot be spelled out in one place how to actually save a character file from start to finish- I've tried going through the "documentation" offered for Studio 4.6, but that's a joke since more than half of it is either in "Draft" or not started.

I hate to say it, but I may end up saying to heck with it and leaving it for DS 4.6 and Poser Pro, even if that means having to leave so many other people out of the loop if I can't figure this out.

All I wanna do is save my character's skin textures/settings in DS3 Advanced!  Seriously.  Urg.

Anybody??

Save it in Poser. It should then be visible in DAZ 4.6. It least it is for me for everything I have.

Thank you-

Poser isn't the issue, nor is 4.6.  The issue is saving the .dsa files (and have them work) for prior versions of Studio so that they can use the files as well.

jestmart ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2013 at 6:20 PM

Is the issue that file isn't visible or doesn't apply right?  DAZ Studio 3 cannot see the Poser Material folder, that function was add to version 4 something.

DarwinsMishap ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2013 at 7:09 PM

The .dsa and .png file made in Studio did not show up in the menu after they were added- that is my issue.  Nothing to do with the Poser files at all- and if the material files are saved in the same folder as the .dsa and .png, saved with the same names, the .png file can be used for either the .dsa or .mt6.

When saving the .dsa/.png file into the runtime folder structure, upon re-opening Studio 3 the items did not show in the menu to be used.  That is the issue.

I reiterate, DS3 cannot see the Poser Material folder, use .pz2 and place in Pose folder.

DarwinsMishap ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2013 at 8:28 PM

Nevermind- I wasn't using the poser material folder.

Consider the issue closed.

file_494870.png

Just to test this I installed DS3A.  Fired up DS4.6Pro, loaded M4, applied Guy4's texture and adjusted to give skin a bronze metallic look.  Created a new "Mat Testing" folder under Pose in my "DAZ Generation 4" Poser file format library, used File > Save as > Deprecated > Materials Preset to save "Bronze.dsa" preset.  Opened Windows Explorer, navigated to the "Mat Testing" folder, changed the PNG file name from "Bronze.dsa.png" to simply "Bronze.png".  Fired up Notepad, did not type anything just File > Save as to save "Bronze.txt" to "Mat Testing" folder.  Back in Windows Explorer renamed "Bronze.txt" to "Bronze.pz2".  Closed DS4.6Pro, opened DS3A, loaded M4, found preset in Pose/Mat Testing and applied with no errors.
